COTOPAXI VOLCANO PRESS RELEASE 89 The Geophysics Institute of the Polytechnic University informs that during the last 12 hours the internal activity of the Cotopaxi was moderate and the external activity was low. Last night the sky remained clear and through a thermal camera emissions of gas and water vapor with low ash content were registered. These emissions reached up to 700 meters above the crater and headed westward. During the early morning hours similar events were observed (emissions of gases and vapor with low ash content). These emissions reached 500 meters above the crater and headed westward. The seismic activity remains similar to past days. A movement of fluids (gases) and magma were registered. There was no presence of rain falls over the sector. Recommendations The evacuation drills, organized by the Secretariat of Risks Management, allow the evaluation of contingency plans as well as obtain feedback. Likewise the drills accustom the public to take appropriate action in case of an emergency. Precautions In zones where there is ash falls please use a wet scarf around the neck and cover your nose and mouth.
