COTOPAXI VOLCANO PRESS RELEASE 90 The Geophysics Institute of the Polytechnic University informs that during the last 12 hours the Cotopaxi volcano maintained a moderate level of internal activity and a low level of external activity. During this period the volcano presented emissions of vapor and gases with a low ash content that reached up to 1500 meters above the crater and headed westward. No rain or ash falls were present over nearby zones. The seismic activity remained similar to past days and there has been no signals of magma and fluid movement in the interior of the volcano. Actions Carried Out In Pichincha: The Decentralized Autonomous Government of the Metropolitan District of Quito began to install long range sirens to alert residents of the Valles de Los Chillos and Tumbaco The Ministry of Economic and Social Inclusion, of the RumiĂąahui district, instructed technical and administrative personnel (whom are part of the phone chain of first response) that they must mobilize in case of an alert. The phone chain will active the opening and administration of 41 shelters, humanitarian assistance, among other tasks assigned to each unit of this institution. In Cotopaxi: In the Health Center of La Victoria, in the district of SaquisilĂ, informative talks on how to act in an eventual increase volcanic activity were carried out. Here they also taught about preventive measures and had the participation of 25 people.
