COTOPAXI VOLCANO PRESS RELEASE 96 The Geophysics Institute of the Polytechnic University informs that in the last 12 hours the Cotopaxi volcano continues to present a moderate level of internal activity and a low level of external activity. In the morning emissions of gases and vapor with low ash content were observed. These emissions reached up to 1200 meters above the crater and headed westward. In the afternoon no observations were able to me made due to the overcast in the atmosphere. Rain falls were registered in the sector, which produced electric storms. The seismic activity remains similar to past days: stable, with movements of magma and fluids inside the volcano (indicating seismic activity for long periods). 63 educational institutions located in risks zones, due to lahars, will participate in drills. This Friday, 2 of October, the educational institutions located in zones 2 and 9 will participate in a simultaneous drills instilled as a preventive measure during the eruptive process of the Cotopaxi volcano. The objective is to strengthen the preparation process within in the educational community, in particular in the case there is a change of alert. In this regards, the drill will put to test procedures and help correct any pertinent aspects that are needed to guarantee the security of children, adolescents, teachers, and staff. The drill will take place in 47 institutions in zone 2 and in 16 institutions in zone 9. The Minister of Education, Augusto Espinoza, from 9 a.m. forward will personally evaluate the drill in the Educational Unit Giovanni Farina, of the Rumiùahui canton. On Wednesday, 7 of October, drills have been plan to take place in the educational institutions in risks zones within the Province of Cotopaxi. 726 people with disabilities live in 7 parishes near the Cotopaxi volcano. With the presence of the authorities of the Ministry of Security Coordination, the Secretariat of Risk Management, and the Decentralized Autonomous Government of Latacunga—the Technical Secretariat of Risks Management reported the official results from the georeferenced census carried out in 7 parishes near the volcano. Of 1600 household visits in 63 neighborhoods, 726 people have been identified with disabilities (401 women and 350 men). With this up-to-date information the authorities will be able to prioritize their care.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Aquaculture and Fisheries gave out 3 tons of food provisions to 56 owners of 240 animals located in the parish of Mulal贸. Equally, they gave out 7 tons of food provisions to 50 owners of 230 animals located in the parish of Pastocalle (sector of Tener铆a).
