A courtyard space belonging to local public school, Clarke Middle, suffered from chronic flooding, insect issues from stagnant water, run-down facilities and lack of usable space. Koons Environmental Design Inc. offered volunteer design work to help create an educational space for students.
12
Design work began with site visits and analysis for the creation of a base map Through out the project regular meetings with school faculty helped determine the needs of those using the space refine the design concept. The end design incorporates a multi use outdoor classroom, reading garden and space for students to practice mindful movement.

The MUPD studio worked with the city of St. Augustine on research relevant to future sea level rise. This survey of 18 historic structures illustrates current preservation success alongside a timeline of future climate impacts. Oak Street today lacks an appropriate entryway character for downtown Athens. The currently underdeveloped site sits walking distance from downtown and UGA campus making it an unobtrusive locale for affordable housing options. This 3D model features a grand boulevard with low-level dwellings adjacent to daily-need commercial uses. 19

Cortona Italy landscape architecture studio Piazza re-designs created to scale without the use of any computer programs. These hand renderings of re-designed piazzas study public spaces and their uses, a major focus over the summer landscape architecture studio in Cortona, Italy. Public spaces are the backbone of cities and must be beautiful, versatile and 27 designed at a human scale.

“Modern demands met through classical design”
This Italian piazza was observed over a multi day span to determine what user’s needs were and how to design for them. Serving as the gateway to the medieval city, piazza Garibaldi welcomes people and the site of community events. This design orients around a breathtaking view enjoyed by tourists, students and locals alike. Pockets of space and clear walkways allow these groups of people to coexist without friction. 29
