For My Final Major Project I Experimented With Didferent Styles Of Typography, From Digitally Creating Type Woth My Graphcs Tablet, To Creating Tyrpe From Stetched Paper Clips.
My Portfolio For My Final Major Project Is Available At This Link:
The design process for the book involved a considerable amount of trial an error. I ended up eith a square hape in the centre, to attempt to use a layout not too far feom the golden ratio layout. I used a circle in the centre, which seemed like a wmagnofying glass or telescope into into the relaities of life. The book also included some of my photography of calmig scenery to contrast the seemingly negative comments, and promote positivoty and relaxation. For the book i chose black and white as it gave a more minimalist feel, there was no colours that seemed purposeful enough to the book, and i felt on sheles surrounded by the often brightly coloured books the minimalist black and white tones will actually stick out more.

: BOARD GAME DESIGN
As part of my final major project, i also decided to design a board game. I wanted the game to match the anti self help book. I made the game about everyday life for twenty somethings, as this was my target market. The game asks questions about events that could take place, some realistic, some unrealistic, with multiple choice options. Once the player has chosen an option, they are told the outcome of this choice, and are to go back or forward between one and three spaces on the board. The game also involves the roll of a dice. The game is largey reflective of luck and chance, ehich is related to a previous project theme on chance. The questions relate to life to connect it to te books, and the cards have unexpected outcomes at times, to show the uncertainties in life and lack of control. The game also has unrealsitc questions for the purpose of amusement . The book was titled life, but for the gamei needed a different title as a game already exists with this title. I also wanted a title that would really stand out on shelves, so chose the title death, with the tag line ‘because what does winning really mean anyway?’ In that all winning does is sognify an end, and after reading contemporary art failure, it noted the emptiness in success. Inwanted minimal colours for the game, to stand out on shelves against the often brightly xoloured boad games and used inages and a similar layout to the of the book.
: FILM
I made a very short advertisemet for the book as part of my final major project. The forty second video includes images of relazing and calming scenery i have recorded, similar to that whig was also used in the book. The video also flashes up with quotes feom the book, which was to be reflective of the way in which we try to hide from te negativities in life.

: RUINS
On One Of The Third Year Projects Prior To The Final Major Project We Needed To Select Six Different Themes, Produing Work Based On That Theme For A Week. On One Of Of My Projects, I Chose The Theme Ruins. Throughout The Project On Ruins, I Studied Urban Exploring, Which Is A Phrase Generally Used To Describe For Seeking And Photographing Abandoned Areas. For The Project I Had A Taste Of Urban Exploring Myself, Going To An Abadandoned Mental Health Hospital, And A Church In London That Was Bombed Out In World War Two.
I considered ceating a book shocasing my urban exploring photography, and providing information about the places I had visitied. I thought about creating the urban exploring book for my final major project, but later changed my mind, though this is still something I would later like to pursue.
I produced a few digital illustrations based on abandoned buildings and the concept of ruins. The image on the left was created using my ipad and a stylus, the two images on the right were created using photoshop and a wacom tablet.
:FAILURE I produced some digital sketches on the project theme ‘failure’, and considered the body language and physical representation of failure.
: CHANCE On one of my projects i foxuses on chance, and created this poster woth the idea of weighing ip choice vs chance, and considered the lack of choice and control that we actually have ib lfe.
This piece was another based ob yhe chance theme in which I considered the concept onluck. I wrote make your own lick and crafted dice out of paper, all with six sides to really reflect this concept of creating your own luck.
This was an image produced based on the butterfuly effect on the chance theme. The butterfly effect is based on chaos theory, and depicts that every action in the universe, however subtle, can have dramatic impacts on the world at a later date. The example given in chaos theory is a butterfly flapping its wings in the amazon and this causing a hurricane many years later. I showed the butterfly effect concept by illustraeibg hazard dymbols onto te butterfly wings to symbolize the theory.
: DANCE
For one of my proects i hosw the theme of dance. I chose dance as this is not a theme i would ordinarily select and wanted to challenge myaelf. I produced dance posters aftee being inspired by musical poster. chicago in particular. I produced a very short gid file animation test using my ipad and the software pro create with a stylus.
: YEAR TWO :
GRAPHIC DESIGN
: STREET PHOTOGRAPHY
One of my projects in sexond year was a self inititated research proejct. I chose the theme ‘capturing a momen’t, due to my interest in photography. I reviwewed the authentiticty of the photograph, and it’s impact on memory. During the project I looked at street photography, in particular the work of Martin Parr. These are some of my own photographs I took on the project with the theme of street photography around covent garden.
: BRANDING
For one of my second year projects, I needed to crreate a brand based on a randomly selected student. The student chosen for me was called Mei, and had an interest in Manga and Anime, and told me about her Chineese heritage, specififcally Chineese New Year. The student chosen for me also expressed an interest in photography. When I had the information regarding the students likes and interests, I produced brand images and logos based on these factors. The i dot on the Mei logo included a Manga styled eye, the dragon was inspired by her participation in Chineese New Year and heritage, the camera to express her interest in photography. I wanted quite a simple, sleek sort of brand, with using black and white, as the student didnt express that she as the student liked colour black the best.
: ANIMATION
This was a project based on audiences and contexts, with a major theme of humanity and animals havin human traits. I made a cery short animation based on the similarties between animals humans.
: CHILDREN’S BOOK DESIGN On the audiences and contexts project I also chose a theme of fairytales and produced a hildrens book based on te story of snow white.
: YEAR ONE GRAPHIC DESIGN
: BOOK COVER DESIGN
On one of my first year project I needed to create a book cover design for an existing penguin classics title. I chose Sherlock Holmes ‘A Stuy In Scarlet’ by sir arthur conan doyle.
This was for another part of a first year project which involved visulazing pages from a book. I focused on one of the lines from the book bbout day becoming night and vise versa. I prodcued a short gif. file animation, it was my first time animating and found it to be a lengthy but enjoyable proccess. Animation available via a hyperlink in the image abover, or through the link here:
: ANIMATION
This was my first time using a letter press in my first year. I liked the boldness of the letters and even the imperfections in the letters that give them a uniquness.
DESIGN
: METHODOLOGY For one of my first year porjects, i needed to create a portfolio of research, and produce images as i went along. On the project i needed to select an animal to focus on, and chose a lion. On the following pages are illustrations produced on the project.
: UAL FOUNDATION DIPLOMA
This was a foundaion year project based on the imprtal and mythical creatures. I focused on angels dor the project and produced mono pronts and tested new ways of drawing.
: DESIGN PROJECTS I take notice of graphic design trends and like to involve myself in the temporary design world. In recent design i have noticed a lot of elements that have been reappearing. On the following pages are some images i put together with type and my photography.
: PRINT DESIGN
