Future Diplomats in the Making: Senior School Achievements

For years, many of our Senior School students have showcased their mastery in debate and diplomacy skills by winning prestigious competitions.

In the most recent competition, five students earned positive commendations in two Model United Nations competitions.

Four of our students participated in Harvard Model Congress Asia (HMCA) 2022 and attain three Honorable Mentions and one Best Delegate title. Gabrielle Audrey Kristiali (Gr. 10), got the Best Delegate tittle, while Amelia Jukita (Gr. 11), Artha Kendro (Gr. 10), and Benedict Marco Kosasih (Gr. 10) were awarded with Honorable Mention. On the other hand, Chavia Z. Tjung, our Grade 8 student, obtained the Verbal Commendation Award in High School MUN 2022.

Harvard Model Congress Asia (HMCA) is a government simulation conference run entirely by Harvard students who are passionate about international relations, government, and teaching. HMCA has been dedicated to teaching, inspiring, and connecting students from across the world since 2004.

On the other hand, High School MUN (HIMUN) is a Model United Nations simulation targeted at high school students across Indonesia. Chavia Tjung, who is currently in her eighth grade, shared her roller-coaster ride experience in the HIMUN 2022 as one of the youngest participants.

"In this year's HIMUN, the debate was about how to build an inclusive society for the disabled. The competition was very competitive, and I was not really confident and was really stressed as each of the participants had substantive speeches! I took that as an opportunity to learn from the seniors and was able to improve on the second day when I led the committee discussion and improved my diplomacy. With that, I was grateful for receiving one of the awards after trying my best. There is always a chance to grow!" she said.

To win these competitions, our students had to master diplomacy and public speaking skills, backed with vast knowledge about global issues and current happenings in the world.

The major takeaways our students brought home were not only about winning and receiving trophies, but more importantly, it was about participating in a group of young people who have the same vision for a better world in the future. Once again, congratulations to all of them!
