VICTORY PLUS School Newsletter
May & June 2018 Edition
EDUCATING FOR A BET TER WORLD
FOREWORD Dear Victorians, This is our final Newsletter of the year. As is appropriate at the end of each year, I ask that we all reflect; reflect on our achievements, reflect on our areas of growth, consider how to improve in the future and, as educators, always consider how this relates to our school Vision, and how it will impact the learners around you. Feedback can be a good part of this process, and I know some teachers sent surveys to their students, which I applaud and encourage. SVP sends out twice yearly surveys via Survey Monkey, which I hope you keep replying to, as we do read them, and we do base school decisions on these responses. Furthermore, I have always been receptive to any feedback that any member of our community would like to give to me.
JUNE 2018 IMPORTANT DATES 1 Pancasila Day 4-6 Whole School Arts Festival 7 PS End of Year Assembly 7 Academic Awards Assembly 7 Grade 12 Graduation 8 Whole School Parent-Teacher Conference
In summary, ask yourself these four questions. 1. What did I do well? 2. What are my areas for growth? 3. What will I do next year? 4. How will this impact learners?

As this is my last Newsletter foreword, I would like to say thank you to all Victorians. I love this school, and I hope that we remain friends and stay in touch! My family and I have really enjoyed our last four years here. We have seen so much growth in the school and we really do feel that SVP has been a special part of our lives. Thanks to everyone and a special thanks to Bapak Handoko and Ibu Yustina for giving me this opportunity to lead the school! I welcome Mr Steven Thompson who will be arriving in mid July and I know you will make him feel welcome as he settles in as the new leader of the school. (His official title will be Management Advisor) And I shall finish with an important leadership quote: “The legacy of a leader is not in what they do, but what the people they serve do because of their leadership. Liam Hammer Academic Advisor Reference: Couros, G. TODDLER
T
he 17/18 school year has nally come to an end and toddler classes had great ideas to arrange an end of year celebration with the kids. To celebrate our learning throughout the year, the toddlers experienced their rst Learning Celebration on Wednesday, 23rd of May 2018 in Pandawa Hall. We invited parents to enjoy the celebration for it is aiming to share the toddlers' learning with their parents and to show how much they are learning in ways that would engage them and allow them to appreciate the children's accomplishments. The current UOI that we've been covering for the past few months is “How the World Works” which delivers the knowledge that animals and plants play different roles in our lives. The teachers
prepared various activity corners where the kids could show off their skills to their parents and they both could try the activities together. The activities featured at our learning celebration are all familiar ones the children have learned in class such as, Flower Planting, Making Healthy Breakfast, Fruit and Veggie Shopping and Fruit and Veggie Stamping. Sounds like fun, huh?? In this session, the students spent 10 minutes in each activity corner exploring and experimenting with their parents. Not only that, the kids also had a chance to perform on the stage! The event began with some performances by toddlers. Toddler Star Light showed a play titled “The Little Red Hen” and Toddler Star Bright played in “The
3
Farmer and The Beet.” Some of the kids also took part in dancing to “Buttery” and “Old McDonald.” I'd say the parents really loved and enjoyed seeing their kids performing on the stage. All in all, both parents and their kids had so much fun during the event! We believe that there should be times for celebrating and bringing closure to the children's time together and that learning celebrations make learning meaningful and exciting for children all year long. It was the best moments that they've ever had! Here's what our learning celebration looks like. Check out our photos!
TODDLER VISIT TO GS SUPERMARKET To support our current UOI “ H o w t h e Wo r l d Wo r k s ” , toddler students learned about the roles of fruits and vegetables in our lives. Throughout the unit, we've introduced various fruits and veggies. The kids now understand that fruits and veggies are a healthy food resource that they can enjoy everyday and that eating fruits daily has many benets for our body such as, making us healthier and stronger, and making us bigger and taller. Moreover, toddler students also learned how fruits and veggies contribute to our lives. To engage more in the unit, the students had various learning experiences such as, making healthy breakfast, fruit salad and spinach soup and making artwork. The students enjoyed it so much. Then, on Friday 4 May, toddler students had an exciting outside school activity. The teachers took the kids to GS supermarket to shop for fruits and veggies. When we got there, the kids enjoyed some fresh fruits served by Kak Elizabeth. It was a fun learning activity to introduce the kids to lots of different fruits and veggies. After that, they shopped for their favourite fruits and veggies and brought them home. The kids enthusiastically picked their favourite ones. We could tell that they really enjoyed shopping for fruits and veggies with their friends. It was so much fun! 4

harles Dickens said that the pain of parting is nothing to the joy of meeting again. And here we are at the end of 2017-2018 Nursery's chapter. Although it happens every year, watching how these little learners have grown up and are ready to embrace their kindergarten's journey, is never easy. But let us bid a sweet farewell and have some fun for the last time. On Wednesday, June 6, 2018 Nursery students and parents celebrated the end of this academic year at Pandawa hall. They didn't only watch students' performances, but also got involved in a collaborative and creative process of decorating a tampah. The event was started by prayer led by Olivia, Lova, Meiryne, and Keylove and continued by opening performances of ECE choir team and angklung players. The students performed in 4 different dances which were Hawaiian, Yamko Rambe Yamko, Teddy Bears Magic and Fan dance. Nursery Sun students conď€ dently showed their moves, spreading a holiday vibe to all all audience with a beautiful Hawaiian dance, while Nursery Rainbow students left their parents in awe with their hip shake in Yamko Rambe Yamko dance. Besides that, Nursery Moon did a simple ballet in pairs in Teddy Bears Magic and Nursery Sky made their parents nodded their heads in tune when watching a fan dance with Selayang Pandang song. After performances, the students and parents worked together in groups of 10, approximately, to decorate a tampah with an Indonesia theme. They used their creative thinking and communication skills when collaboratively using assorted collage materials such as uncooked pasta, various kind of paper and beans. There are 5 categories: the most unique, the best teamwork, the neatest, the fastest, and the most cautious. The ď€ rst winning team under the most unique design is purple team whereas the second winner is green team. For the best teamwork, the winners are red and brown teams. The most neat group is yellow and the fastest is blue. And last but not least, both white and orange groups won under the most cautious category. Congratulations to all winners. On behalf of Nursery team, I would like to thank you all for a wonderful cooperation this school year. Wish you all the best for the next academic year, kiddos!

On June 7, 2018, Baby Gym End of Year Activity was held on the school playground and foyer. This outdoor activity was the nal activity for this academic year. To start the event, the baby gym students had 'Circle Time' where they prayed, sang the 'Good Morning' song and did yoga activities. Afterwards, they sang three songs. The songs were 'Dancing Freeze', '1234 (Rajin ke Sekolah)' and 'Body Movement'. The students participated with great enthusiasm. Following the introductory activities, we played four games. In the rst game, the students had to crumple concord paper and then sorted them into three colour groups. The second game was a spray activity. They had to make drawing paper colorful by spraying it. During the third one, students did 'Roly Poly' on a mat, crawling in the tunnel and jumping in the cone. In the last game, students transferred balls from one bucket to another by using a hoola hoop. All participants are happy and excited to do all the activities. There was a good collaboration between parents and their children. To end the activities, each of baby gym students received a certicate and class photo. They have ofcially graduated. Congratulations kids!

END OF YEAR CELEBRATION
W
hen it comes to winding down the school year, there are lots of fun ways to celebrate a year of learning together. It is celebration time! End of year activity in Early Years is one of the ways to show parents, friends and school communities about things that they have accomplished in their extra curricular activities. Why extracurricular? Students who participate in an extracurricular activity for at least two years are more successful later in life because extra curricular activities teach discipline and persistence. (Duckworth, 2017) Extracurricular activities offer students the opportunity to spend time with others of similar
interests. Students can meet friends from different classes and make new friends. Extracurricular activities enable students to strengthen their self-condence, learn to be persistence and commit to their choice. An extracurricular activity might even have the effect of “recharging” the brain after a busy schoolwork. These activities can also work to build professional skills that a classroom alone cannot always foster. On the 18th May 2018, all of Early Years students became the stars of the day. They showed their condent and excitement in joining all of the activities. There were some differences from the previous end of year activity. It involved all the extracurricular
7
activities, both performing art and also visual art. Parents were entertained by some performances from ballet, wushu, traditional dance, modern dance, choir and angklung. Besides, both parents and students also had a chance to visit the the ECA booths such as chopboard drawing (Drawing and Coloring Club), mini project making (Robotics), making yummy sushi (Cooking club) and reciting prayers (Iqra). Excitement and accomplishment were the things that we felt during this program. We are so proud of what the students have accomplished and of course we are so thankful to all of the parents who have been so supportive throughtout this school year. See you all in the next school year!
Grade 4 Excursion to

S
upporting the learning experience of UOI 6, How the World Works, Grade 4 students had an excursion to PP-IPTEK Museum and Museum of Electricity and New Energy (MLEB) in TMII on 15th May 2018. During this excursion, students were learning about how Science is evolving and have an impact on people's lives. The aim of excursion was to observe kinds of energy, how it is formed, explain positive and negative effects of scientic advances on people and environment and how to use energy wisely. With the aid of a tour guide and watching the movie a b o u t e l e c t r i c i t y, w e started our excursion at the Museum of Electricity and New Energy (MLEB) and observed the creation of Electricity and R e n e w a b l e E n e r g y. Various collections of demonstrations were presented using modern, interactive technology so that students could practice their own investigations. They

Here, students were able to experience interactive demonstrations that can be touched and played with. Through this interaction, the students were encouraged to thinking about what, why and how science and technology works and how it is used by human beings to be more comfortable and prosperous. Students were made aware of the development of science and technology of the world.
The PYP exhibition is a culminating project which will occur in the nal year of the PYP. It is an opportunity for students to exhibit the attributes of the learner proles that they have been developing throughout their engagement with the PYP. As Grade 5 students are going to have their PYP exhibition next academic year, last month they had a chance to visit the PYP exhibitions in Binus School Simprug, Jakarta. The aim of this visit was to observe the booths which other students exhibited as well as to have an idea of how PYP Exhibition was done.
This learning experience was very benecial for our Grade 4 students in learning about energy. We hope students can apply what they have learned from the excursion.
There were 15 students that went to Binus School Simprug, Jakarta on 27th of April, 2018 accompanied by Ibu Irma and Pak Agung. The theme which was displayed there was How We Express Ourselves. During the visit, SVP students witnessed great things displayed on the booths as well as having the chance to interview students from another school on how they organized themselves for the PYP Exhibition. They also got some great information during the opening ceremony and the presentation time done by the students of Binus School Simprug, Jakarta. This learning experience will be very benecial for grade 5 students to prepare for their PYP exhibition next academic year. We hope that students can apply what they have learned from the other school in their own PYP Exhibition.

G
rade 2 students will design a building for their summative assessment project. Therefore, on Tuesday 15 May 2018 we invited Pak Handoko to give presentation about factors to consider when designing a building. Pak Handoko as the Civil Engineer shared his expertise and experience on how he has built SVP and some other buildings in the past. Through a very detailed and engaging presentation using pictures and videos. Pak Handoko mentioned that there are ve factors to consider when you want to build a building : Safety, function of the building, sustainability, accessibility and aesthetic. By the end of his presentation Pak Handoko asked the students to work in group and tried to draw a design of a building and also to create a building model using straws.

PRIMARY SCHOOL END OF YEAR PERFORMANCE On May 5th, 2018, Primary School had a big event that happens once every 2 years, it is called t h e E n d O f Ye a r Performance. This event involves parents as the participants. It is the time when students exhibit what they have learned during their ECA to their parents. The theme that we highlighted for this year was “Entrepreneur Me', the same as our school highlight. As an IB School, we try to build 5 skills which are thinking skills, communication skills, self management skills, research skills, and social skills through our 33 ECAs. Some ECAs can build more than 1 skill, such as Scouts ( T h i n k i n g a n d Communication skills), Archery (SelfManagement and Thinking Skills), Modern Dance (SelfManagement, Social and Communication skills) and many more. 1718 Primary School Student Council were involved as the MCs and also prayer reader. They informed everyone about the rundown, venues, goodie bags and also door prizes. They spoke clearly and condently in front of the audience. I was so proud of them. Our school director, Ibu Yustina also give her contribution through her welcoming speech.
Angklung and Ensemble opened our event by performing The Jumping Bean, The Veldt, & Dance of The Scarecrow at 08.30. It was awesome. They could collaborate the traditional and modern instruments to create beautiful harmony for their performance. Black was their costume identity on that day. Meanwhile, Iqro' had a different type of performance this time, instead of reciting from the Qur'an, they chose to sing “Khatmil Quran” and one of the students translated the meaning into Bahasa Indonesia. Not to mention Scouts; they still did the semaphore but they also showed us how to deal with an injured person using a stretcher and took the person to a safe place. It was WOW….. Ta e k w o n d o h a d a different thing to show this year. Instead of showing power in breaking boards, they showed us “Taekwondo Dance”. Confused? Me too. It was the rst time for me to see a dance using taekwondo movements. But it was fun to see the young students did the movements while following the music. Wushu were showing their strength from their performance which involved lots of kicking. They could show what they have mastered during their after school
activities. Xiao tu guai guai was a mini drama title that was performed by Mandarin Club students. It was a story about 3 bunnies and a big bad wolf. They could speak Mandarin very well. Two thumbs up for them. Talking about dance ECA, this year, we have traditional dance ECA and they showed us one of the dances that comes from West Java (Sunda) called Anak Harak Dance. They looked really beautiful with their colorful costumes. Our Modern Dance ECA were also showing their cool movements for their performance. Blocking, creating and accepting responsibility is part of their learning. They performed using red and yellow for lower grade students and white for upper graders. Both were amazing. They enjoyed themselves as they performed on the stage. Only those ECAs? Of course not. Parents could see the other ECAs activities through videos that were played during the event. Meanwhile, Basketball and Swimming had mini competitions among themselves in different venues. Is that the end of the e v e n t ? J u s t performances, videos and mini competitions? Well…., after that, we 11
had booth visits. It is a time when parents had to visit a minimum of 5 booths to collect stickers to be put in their yers that can then be exchanged with tokens of appreciation. And they could do that only in 30 minutes. Why ? Because we only provided 50 tokens of appreciation for the rst 50 people. We applied “First come, rst serve” during booth visits. But parents were welcome to see and visit the other booths if they would like to see and try to do different activities provided. Overall, it was a great achievement. It was amazing to see students transformed and showing their maximum ability during their ECAs. But, this event would never run smoothly without the support from parents, SVP leaders, PS student council and also teachers in charge including ECA coaches. Allow me to congratulate all of you for your hard effort, dedication, and time consumed to make sure this event ran smoothly. See you again in the next PS End Of Ye a r Performance.

Grade 5 Mini Drama Performance written by Ibu Glory Sianipar, Grade 5 Homeroom Teacher
“Is that Darrel? I can't believe he can sing beautifully like that. I almost burst into tears”. “Wow, I never knew Della had such a beautiful voice.” “ I can't believe my son can sing and dance”. “It was a very great show”. Those are the comments we heard from parents after the Grade 5 mini drama performance conducted in Amarta Hall on May 26th 2018. That day was surely a memorable day that all Grade 5 students will always remember. The preparation was very short but ‘The Paper Ship For Tomorrow’ mini drama was a great success. The mini musical drama was about the civilian of Aceh who were trying to recover from the shock and pain years later after the Tsunami. The music, songs characters and dance were a perfect combo. The students were very talented singers, dancers and characters. They also proved that hard work will bring them to success in whatever they are doing. Good job, Grade 5!

Kartini Day Celebration written by Ibu Glory Sianipar, Grade 5 Homeroom Teacher
K
artini is one of national heroes of Indonesia. She is the symbol of woman's emancipation in Indonesia. R.A. Kartini indeed has a special place in the hearts of Indonesian women. In her short 25-year life journey, she had made changes to the people's lives and left a great legacy, including the passionate writing entitled Habis Gelap Terbitlah Terang (After the Dark, the Bright Rises).Born as an inspiring woman on 21 April 1879, her birthday is celebrated around Indonesia. SVP is also one of the many who always celebrate her Birthday. This is meant to commemorate her ideology that spurred the spirit of native Indonesians to achieve education equality and eradicate social injustices. This year, SVP Primary held a poetry reading contest for Grade 1 until Grade 3 and a poetry writing competition for Grade 4 and 5. Grade 6 students, unfortunately couldn't take part in this event as they were busy preparing themselves for the National Examinations. The event ran very well and the students were very happy. Each winner of the competition was awarded a trophy.

Kemang Pratama Social Event
C
harity is one of our emphasis during the learning process. It increases our care to generously serve the community. In our school we have a program called 'Community Service' to facilitate this activity. One of our 'Community Service' activities is join a Kemang Pratama Social event. This event was held on April 21, 2018 at the Ibrahim auditorium, Kemang Pratama 2, Bekasi. The event started at 8 a.m and nished at 12 a.m. We departed the Ibrahim auditorium around 7.45 a.m. Seven students from grade 7 until 11 plus also a Secondary Student Council (SSC) representative joined the event. We registered, gaining

the a seminar kit and identication for joining the event. The seminar has three speakers, with different topics from government and nongovernment institutional representatives. The seminar had different topics, of three hourly sessions, all with question and answer. The rst session, which focussed on “Drugs and its Effects”, was presented by a representative from the government institution called BNN (Badan Narkotika Nasional). The second session focus was “lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender LGBT”. The topic for the last session was about “Bullying and how to prevent it” from a non-government institutional representative.
15
The topics presented in seminar were really good. The speakers gave information on how the younger generation need to be aware about the negative effects of drugs. They should realize LGBT is part of our society and also be aware of bullying. The seminar was interactive and speakers engaged all the participants in their session. All the participants looked so enthusiastic and involved in every session. It showed that the young generation, cares about what happens in their environment and can prevent negative effects that can destroy their future. At the end, they became aware about LGBT and say no to drugs and bullying. Drugs, and bullying? No! Better future? Yes!

pril is the rst month of the last term of the academic year 2017-2018, usually a lot of activities and one of them is Scout Camp for Grade 7 and Grade 8. April is our time of learning in nature that I call Scout camp 2018.

SCOUT CAMP written by Bapak Wisnu Wibowo Physical Health Education Teacher for Secondary School
Three days and two nights were spent at Gunung Gede Pangrango Forest Complex, Cimacan Village, Cipanas, Cianjur. The topography of the eld was hilly with an altitude of 1275 m above sea level with an air temperature 17-27 degrees Celsius. We camped and did many outdoor activities. There are some differences from the previous Scout camp. This time we eliminated garbage during our meals by not using cardboard or styrofoam containers and no plastic water bottles. Instead, we brought everything from home and washed it after we used it, for example plates, eating utensils, and water bottles. This was a valuable lesson and good example on how to reduce waste. We also cooked our dinners together. Yes, this was very difcult. However, this taught us to appreciate our daily food. 16
T
he experience things are different from Grade 8's camp last year, with the theme "Learning beyond the classroom", they took their science knowledge to the forest and applied their knowledge there, such as mesuring general forest health indicators, compare and contrast data of forest indicators at near human activity areas and at deep forest, and analyze data of forest indicators at near human activity area and at deep forest. Because we tried to provide different programs for each year related to global needs. Also our activities are quite different from the previous year, we navigated our way to a waterfall, and along the way we learned about the plants in this forest that are safe for human consumption. We also had some activities that are very useful for our lives, such as First Aid, Leadership games, Teamwork games, and how to plant in a sustainable way. Some of the beneď€ ts we got from this activities were: we know more about the plants in the forest, and we can have camp creating waste products.

World Scholar’s Cup 2018 Jakarta Round
19
Every year ,
Sekolah
Victory Plus sends our junior and senior scholar teams to participate in the most prestigious event, The World Scholar's Cup, as part of our commitment to educate students and foster international mindedness. To prepare themselves for The World Scholar's Cup, all SVP scholars had routine practice every Friday and Saturday. Friday practices focused on developing debate skills. So, every Friday they would always be given some tips and motions to debate. The teachers and students had to give feedback for improvement. While every Saturday, they dedicated their time to master the subjects. There are 6 subjects and each subject had numerous sub-topics so they had to devote their time to learning. Despite the tiring Friday and Saturday practices, they showed their enthusiasm and commitment in The World Scholar's Cup. We all joined the competition with the same aim: 'bring as many trophies and medals as possible'. Every year, the World Scholar's Cup has a new theme to widen the knowledge and to make the competition more purposeful. The World Scholar's Cup is a competition that not only challenges students' skills and ability in English but also provides a chance for students to widen their knowledge. The 2018 Jakarta Round theme was An Entangled World. This was chosen because we believe that everyone and even everything in this world is connected to each other. That particularly has a relation with the creation of the universe. When we touch someone's heart, or emotionally become attached to someone, something occurs and sometimes we cannot explain this. As previously mentioned, there are six subjects offered in The World Scholar's Cup. They are Special Area, History, Social Studies, Science, Art and Music and Literature. Each subject has a different sub-topic to discuss. The topic of each subject in 2018 Jakarta Round was: Special Area - Human Relationships History - The History of Diplomacy Social Studies - Black Markets Science - The Science of Memory Art & Music - Braving the Distance Literature - Voices of the Inseparable 20
Day 1 The Jakarta Round this year was quite different because it was held in two different places. For day 1, we had to travel to BINUS School Serpong while Day 2 was hosted by Universitas Bunda Mulia. Because of the long journey to BINUS School Serpong, everyone had to depart from school so early in the morning. We left school at 6 am. All scholars showed their condent faces for day 1 competitions. During day 1, both junior and senior teams had 3 different competitions, Team Debate, Collaborative Writing and Scholar's Challenge. The debate went on for 3 rounds with three different motions and three different teams from different schools. The motions challenged students' understanding on crypto currencies, human relationships and diplomacy. It was quite fortunate for all our students because one of the motions had been given for practice at school. We were glad that all junior teams, especially the new scholar members could win the debate. This was their rst time joining the WSC. In this debate, we should be grateful because one of our scholars, Andrea Zaharani, could bring one trophy home. She was awarded the trophy for the best top 5 debate team. This shows that SVP students excelled in formulating ideas and opinions. The second competition, Collaborative Writing, was more challenging because the topics given were a bit demanding and required good analytical thinking. There were some SVP scholars who were awarded medal honors as writing champions; even Grade 7 students received a medal for collaborative writing. The last competition that they had to nish was the Scholar's Challenge. This individual competition really tested students' mastery on all 6 subjects. Anastasya Antoni, Grade 8 student secured her place as the 2nd best challenge scholar in the Special Area subject. Not only that, some students also won some medals in Scholar's Challenge. Their accomplishments showed that their perseverance brought about positive results. Day 1 of the WSC ended at around 9 pm yet all students still looked happy and enthusiastic. They had to keep their spirit to face the last day.
Day 2 The last day of the World Scholar's Cup took place in Universitas Bunda Mulia. In the morning, SVP scholars gathered at school and went to the venue with the same purpose, 'collect as many points as possible and go to Global Round'. Scholar's Bowl, scholars performance and winner announcement were the main events in Day 2. Scholar's Bowl opened day 2 of the WSC. This lasted longer than other WSC competitions because the Scholar's Bowl went on for 5 rounds. This was the merriest competition because almost every minute we would hear teams shouting the wrong or correct answers. After the Scholar's Bowl, it was the time to relax. Some performance groups from different schools went on the stage to amuse the audience. Most of the performers went to the stage to show their ability in singing. After the scholar's show, it was the most awaited-moment, the awards ceremony. All scholars were sitting nervously and even we could hear their heartbeat. In 2018 Jakarta Round, we won around 120 medals in different categories and 1 trophy and all teams qualied for the Global Round in Kuala Lumpur in June. All scholars had given and sacriced everything for this Jakarta Round and they deserved the best. 2018 Jakarta Round has nally ended and all scholars have to prepare themselves for Kuala Lumpur Regional Round scheduled for 17 – 24 June. We do hope that SVP scholars will bring more medals and trophies from the regional round in Kuala Lumpur.

Siska attended SVP from Grade 1 and says that she loved studying at SVP because of its commitment to growth and its visible and tangible improvement in quality from year to year. She enjoyed being a Victorian, especially for the sense of being part of “one family” even though members of the family have different backgrounds and interests. Siska mentioned that she always focused her attention on her goal setting, for the academic and non-academic areas of her development. She joined taekwondo and dancing extracurriculars for maintaining her health, and loved to sing and dance at school events, as well as outside performances. In the area of academics, she always aimed for a high standard of achievement and this was the foundation for her success in her nal assessments, where she was recognised as one of the 5 top score achievers at SVP. She said that she was very happy with the school's curriculum as it helps students to become balanced, independent and creative. Here are the tips from Siska that she would like to share, especially to those students in Secondary: 1. Be consistent and meet deadlines. 2. Always do your best. 3. Have grit, so that you can endure difculties. 4. Review lessons. 5. Make the most of your classes to boost your learning achievement. 6. Know not only what to study but also how to study. Siska mentioned that she usually take notes strategically to help her review lessons. 7. If you continuing study abroad, have the courage to speak with others and make friends. We wish Sisca all the best as she seeks to achieve her learning goals at university. Until we meet again!

City of Stars A Secondary School Student Council Promenade
“How do I look?” muttered a nervous seventeen years old boy, as he carefully xed the crooked bowtie on his neck, to his date, an equally nervous girl wearing a dress she planned for months prior. She looks back at him with an amazed grin on her face. For many, the promenade is more than an opportunity to aunt how they as a couple look good together, it is a chance to celebrate a year of learning, a hallmark of their hard work. The prom night is an annual tradition of SVP's secondary school, an event dedicated to its soonto-graduate twelfth graders who in a month's time will move on to far corners of the world pursuing their dreams studying at universities. Like every year, the Secondary Student Council receives the responsibility to plan, organize, and execute the prom night to honor the twelfth graders. The journey to prom started a few months ago, February to be exact. It was three months before the event and the SSC thought that they had enough time to execute it perfectly. Newsash, they changed their minds not long after. The planning stage started with the brainstorming stage. Where would it be? What is the theme? I can carry on with technicalities that will bore you to death. After many debates, The SSC nally decided that the theme would be the La La Land inspired City of Stars after initially wanting to choose the Harry Potter inspired Yule Ball instead, but quickly changed their minds after realizing how ridiculous a winter themed promenade in the blazing heat of Bekasi would be. At last, it was the D-day, a Saturday evening, soon to be more beautied by the pleasant appearances of the event. It was a beautiful Saturday evening, which was about to be beautied by the guests. All of a sudden the view was lled with abundant colorful dresses and sharp tuxedos worn by happy faces. The presence of the teachers and PSG representatives, who each gave speeches, only made it all more memorable. As they walked in the gates, they were graced by the lantern studded red carpet leading up to a tastefully decorated staircase, to the equally enchanting Amarta hall with alluring drapes hanging over the ceiling, accessorized by clouds and not to forget, the unforgettable table decoration. All that accompanied by the humorous entertainers Adhi, Ibel, Mike of Mustang. FM, the mouthwatering food from Trusty Café, and the abundant number of photos they took in the photo booth, certainly made prom night a valuable experience. The performances from the students were also nothing short of amazing, complimented by videos the students made to commemorate their journey. There were so many memorable moments, like the funny games the hosts made us play, and the prom king and queen winners: Haz and Qey. Nonetheless, perhaps a long time from now, what the students would remember the most is not the prom itself. Rather, the thing it helped solidify. None other than the very moments they shared be it good or bad, the lessons they learned, and the life they lived during their times at SVP.

Education Background Sarjana Pend. Bahasa dan Sastra Indonesia (S1) Graduated from Universitas Negeri Jakarta year 2011 Joining SVP since year 2013 Teaching what subject Bahasa Indonesia (Language and Literature) Teaching what level Grade 9, 10, 11 DP HL
What is your most unforge able experience in teaching? Teaching Indonesian Language and Literature in a school with foreign language as the language of instruction is challenging and interesting at the same time. It is a challenge when teachers should connect learning units with context and actual issues from both Indonesia and overseas. Language is both a form of identity and a means of communication; literature is a way to reflect your soul, and is influenced by societal and cultural values. It is also interesting when the students are able to apply Bahasa Indonesai comprehensively and passionately. To witness the students' learning journey and the result is a truly unforgettable experience.
Please te us about your experience joining training or seminars. Sekolah Victory Plus has played an important role in my personal development as an educator. Training, as well as feedback from coordinators and colleagues enable me to learn how to teach. The knowledge and skills I have acquired from IB training (MYP and DP training) has been critical in establishing a solid foundation for my teaching.
In addition to the training I have received, SVP has also given me the opportunity to share my knowledge. Most recently, the teachers of Bahasa Indonesia and I had the chance to speak at Seminar 1000 Guru with the topic, “Sastra itu Menyenangkan”. The participants were SMP/SMA teachers from around Bekasi. It was a pleasure to see the teachers actively participating during discussions about strategies to teach literature. They were also impressed with the Sekolah Victory Plus students' learning products and were inspired to apply strategies to teach literature in contextual, authentic, and creative ways in their schools.
What is your feeling as an IB educator and your expectation towards the students? Salam Literasi! Being an IB Bahasa Indonesian teacher and coordinator in Secondary School of Sekolah Victory Plus has grown me as a lifelong learner. To love and uphold Indonesian as a language of unity and to help develop peace-loving global citizens are my expectations for every student at this school. Salam Literasi.

Holiday is Coming....

ello Parents… now it's the end of 1718 academic year, so many things that we had done through this community, the PSG SVP. The parents' sharing sessions, morning yoga, blood donations, visiting the orphanage, sharing the grocery packages for those who in need at school surrounding areas, learnt how to cook together in our cooking class and also learnt how to be looking gorgeous in our beauty class. In our regular religion activities, besides the Pengajian Tausyah, Unity Prayer and Rosary Prayer, now we have our Sharing Dhamma for Buddhist parents. All those activities only can happened because the cooperation and support from all parties. We thank to all PSG Commissions, the SVP Support Team and of course our loving PSG Class Parents and SVP Parents. The year full of passions, hard work and fun, made us having the great collaboration together, with one system, is to serve each other. We'd like to thank all of you who have been the part of this community, and we do hope that we will gain a greater collaboration in the next year. th
Other thing, we'd like to say congratulations SVP for the 20 Anniversary this year. Happy birthday…! Our best wishes for all SVP big family, more success coming, especially to build the education of our country through developing and forming our children's characters and intelligence. Our appreciation also to Pak Liam for being a great partner of PSG for the last 4 years, thank you for the supports, the input, and also all the improvements made in our school, SVP. We wish you all the best for your new journey in Albania, may God bless you and family always ya Pak… At the end, the holiday is coming, we wish you all the SVP big family have a great and lovely holiday, and for those who celebrate Lebaran, we say: “Happy Eid Mubarak 1439H, Mohon maaf lahir dan batin…” “A team is a group of individuals that support each other...” (Jeffrey Benjamin) By Astri Dona Baru For The Steering Committee

PSG Blood Donation “Gives the Gift for Life…” Every 6 months, the PSG Care Commission holds a blood donation event as a biyearly routine program. Not only is this our routine, but from this event we can learn a valuable lesson; caring. We learn to care for one another through this event due to the fact that we are giving back to the community that is in need. What people fail to realize when they do the act of blood donation is that it benets their well-being in which results them to becoming a healthy individual. The activity was held on Tuesday, May 8th, 2018. Out of the 163 people who registered, 137 participants came to the event. After the participants lled out the forms that contain their health history, the Palang Merah Indonesia staff did a mini physical check and about 250cc of blood was collected from each eligible donor. By the end of the morning we were able to collect 102 bags of blood. This is an increased of about 15 percent from the previous blood donation, and we thank God for this.
Now I know the importance between making a blood donation and giving encouragement to others to take the action. Twenty minutes of your time may be a small price to pay but that amount of time will save lives of many. If you are blood donor you are a hero to someone, somewhere, who received your gracious gift of life. Thanks to PMI Bekasi, SVP Team, PSG Commissions, Parents and all donors who made this event possible. We hope to gather more donors on our next event. By Vera Sisca For Care Commission

We Care, We Act… On the 5th of June 2018, the PSG team had a chance to distribute grocery packages for those who are in need around Kemang Pratama. We used the car to go around the neighborhood and nd the person or the group of people that we think needs it. We divided the PSG team into three groups and each groups are given the jobs to distribute the grocery packages to some different areas: Kemang 1, Kemang 3, Kemang 2&5, Kemang Golf and Galaxy. The funds that we used to buy the grocery packages was from the leftover money of the previous event, the bazaar murah, which was held by the PSG team in which we sold used clothes and cheap grocery packages. When we distributed the packages to those in need, we saw the happiness plastered on their faces when they received it. I hope the package can bring a good impact to their lives and I hope someday we can do it again. I never get tired of doing little things for others. Sometimes those little things occupy the biggest part of their hearts. Thank you to PSG-SC, Ibu Siwi, Ibu Rini, Ibu Yuni from the PSG Care Commission for organizing and make this event happen. And also I would like to thank Ibu Esti, Ibu Desi and team for the logistic support and to all parents who supported this event. May God bless you all… By Vera Sisca For Care Commission

Welcome Ramadan.... lose the moment to compete in the good by sharing. Muslimah SVP through this community moved to prepare fasting meals for SVP securities & helpers for thirty days in full. We thank all Pengajian Moms for their support so this matter happened.
As one of our religion regular activities, the PSG Care Commission hold the Pegajian Tausyah for SVP Parents on the third and fth week every month. Each session contain with the study of the Qur'an, letter by letter, in order to make us understand more about the content of Qur'an, and also to guide us how to apply it in our everyday life.
Besides fasting in Ramadan, another major obligation as a Muslim is prayer (sholat). Luckily our children are studying at SVP, because the school has provided a comfortable mushola for the students, teachers and others in school, so they can perform the obligations of prayers comfortably. For that we thank the school, also to the parents who have helped in the provision of prayer equipment worship. Hopefully with that balance between academic and religious values, it will complete the development of their moral (akhlak), personality and intelligence.
At the end of 2017 – 2018 academic year, something different in our Pengajian Tausyah, on the 22nd of M a y, i n e n t e r i n g t h e h o l y Ramadan, we chose the theme about fasting (puasa). The order to do the fasting is contained in the letter of Al Baqoroh (2: 183): “O you who have believed, decreed upon you is fasting as it was decreed upon those before you that you may become righteous.” Fasting (shaum), in other word is Imsak means refrain from an act. Fasting according to the Shari'a is to worship Allah by refraining from everything that breaks the fast like eating, drinking from sunrise to sunset. Two reasons why the fasting seems special compared to other worship: 1. Fasting prevents self-pretense and the accompanying passions. 2. Fasting is the secret between a servant with his Lord who is not shown except his Lord.
May they grow in addition to being intelligent also noble, respecting all creation of God, loving others, spreading peace, loving each other, embracing and teaching rather than beating, advising not hurting the heart.
The fasting man doesn't harm his neighbor, either by hand or by his tongue or destroys the honor of God, does not lie and does not eat the property of others by the way of vanity. This is the meaning of fasting which combines the image of refraining from the things that break the fast and strengthen the Spirit of Faith.
We'd like to thank all Parents who have supported our Pengajian Tausyah activity and we hope through this community we could support each other especially in strengthen our faith and to do more good things to others. Before we forget, we'd like to say: “Happy Eid Mubarak, 1 Syawal 1439H” Taqobbalallahu minna wa minkum (May Allah accept our charity)

As one of the sharing activity for celebrating Easter, on the 30th of April, we distributed 75 the toiletry packages for those who in need in Kemang Pratama and Galaxy areas. The fund was gathered from the collection during the prayer and also donations from some parents. The packages contain of toothbrushes, toothpaste, soaps, shampoos, detergents, balsam, a small towel and cookies. Thank you to all Rosary Moms who have supported this activity so we could share our caring to other people. Also as May is a month of commemorating our Mother Mary, besides doing our rosary prayer every Friday, we did a 'Ziarah' to Keluarga Kudus church in Cibinong and Kathedral church in Bogor, it was held on June 4th 2018. We prayed together, a rosary prayer and also Novena prayer. Thank you to all Moms who have participated in this activity, see you all next academic year 1819. Our Sharing Dhamma Namo Buddhaya… As informed in our last month updates, that now we have the Sharing Dhamma activity for Buddhist parents in SVP, the rst dhamma was held on May 15th, led by Pak Darwadi and Pak Harto (our SVP parents), we did a Parita prayer. After the prayer, we discussed about the system in next sessions, which we will try to accommodate all Buddhism that we have especially for SVP Parents. Therefore, we really need all Buddhist Parents in SVP to help this community grow and give blessing for others. As the next opportunity, in the 4th of June we held a 'Parisadha Buddha Dharma Nicirensyoyu' prayer, which besides attended by SVP Parents also by some NSI (Nicirensyosyu Indonesia) people assisted by Ibu Ria. We thank to all of the Parents who have joined and support this activity. For further information, please contact Ibu Ria (081299069708) or Ibu Fenny (087888852377), or you may contact our Care Commission team as well. See you in the next academic year of 1819.
