FOREWORD If you have attended any meeting with parents where I have spoken you will know my feelings regarding the role of parents in schools. Research indicates time and time again that parents that are actively involved in the education of their children have a significant impact on their child’s success; the more parents are involved the more successful the children will be at school. For a true partnership it is important that parents have a deep understanding of all aspects of their child’s education. Within the primary school and the ECE division we currently have blogs that keep parents informed about what is happening in the classroom. We do plan to make some changes to the way that parents have access to information in both Primary and ECE with the inclusion of information about each child’s performance. In secondary we use Managebac as platform for parents to not only see what their child is doing but also provide parents access to the assessment results of their child. When I speak to my division leaders I always emphasize the importance of informing parents when they teachers have any concerns about their children. For me, letting parents know during reporting cycles (report cards) is not acceptable. As soon as teacher has some concern about a child then the parents should be notified, it is only through this close connection between and home and school can we assure that both the parents and the school share a common understanding of where a child is at. I want to also discuss two types of events that are mandatory for dedicated parents who want their children to be successful. The first event in the Three Way Conference. All parents should attend any opportunity they have to be involved in a
Three Way Conference. This event involves the teachers, student and parent reviewing the student’s progress and then discussing and formulating goals or targets for the student to work on. If parents are aware of their children’s goals then they can use these goals as discussion starters when they meet their child at the end of the day. So the normal, ‘How did you go at school today ?,’ can be much more powerful when it is related to the child’s goal, ‘Did you manage to practice your goal of improving your oral presentations ?’ At the end of the Three Way Conference parents will come away knowing what their child can do and what areas require support. (Click here to see an example) The Student Led Conference is similar to the Three Way Conference however the teacher is not involved in the event. The teacher has however helped the child to select certain pieces of work and discussed with the child possible targets. So, parents sit with their child and discuss the work that has been chosen to demonstrate the learning that has taken place. Parents come away from these meetings having already viewed their child’s work and parents are now informed about how they can support their child to achieve their goals. So, if you have an opportunity to attend either a Three Way Conference or a Student Led Conference please make sure you attend. Your child’s education is in your hands - don’t let an opportunity to help your child slip out of your hands but failing to attend these conferences. Every parent should attend every Three Way Conference and Student Led Conference. Steven Thompson Management Advisor

The ECE Literacy Expo took place from 15 to 29 October 2018 in Sekolah Victory Plus, Bekasi. During those weeks ECE students participated in continued story telling activities brought to each level by the homeroom teachers. There were four selected children’s books, each read to Toddler classes, Nursery classes, EY1 and EY2 classes. At the end of the reading session, EY students made booklets by compiling drawings of their favourite part of the book. The Nursery students made Pinocchio puppets as their project, which they coloured and collaged by themselves. The Toddler students also did a very good job in pasting the gingerbread house template which they have seen in the Hansel and Gretel storybook.

Students have also created their favourite books collection on a special display in the classroom. They brought different type of books, big and small ones, thick and thin ones, pop-up and 2D printed, ones that have sound effects and the push and slide type of book. It was all very interesting to see and it helped to promote the love of reading among the students. Some of them read their favourite book in front of their friends, too. As the culmination, on Friday all of the ECE students were listening to a story telling from puppetaria. Written by Ibu Angela (Nursery Teacher)

STORYTELLING WITH IBU SHARON Written by Ibu Vienna
NOVEMBER 2018
Early Childhood Education
Storytelling is an unique way for young learners to develop understanding, respect and appreciation for other cultures, as well as to promote a positive attitude to people from different countries, races and religions. Moreover, it is a stepping stone for academic learning. Many young learners have the habit of learning by rote, without having an understanding of the subject. Storytelling, as a regular activity, can help the young learners to enjoy and have a better understanding of the subject which they are reading.
In Sekolah Victory Plus, nursery students are having story time with Bu Sharon every week and they enjoy it. Bu Sharon as the story teller came to the class and started to read a story for the students. Reading aloud was chosen to deliver the story to the students. She also brought some properties to attract the students’ attention such as bringing a real baby chick and also wearing a cat ear bandana. All the students were listening attentively to the story told. Some students answered her ‘yes’ or ‘no’ questions and the others listened. This activity was used to develop the students’ imagination and teach the students about language.

Ordering Food at Rumah Iga Bakar In the unit ‘How We Organize Ourselves’, EY2 students went to Rumah Iga Bakar restaurant in Kemang Pratama on Thursday and Friday, 18 -19 October 2018 to learn about people’s roles and responsibilities in the restaurant. They found that there are three main roles at the restaurant, which are ‘cashier, waitress, chef, and not to forget themselves as the costumer’. They really enjoyed their roles as the customer by ordering the food and drink and paid for their order by themselves. They knew that the roles and responsibilities of people in the restaurant give big impact for the restaurant to run well from the discussion with Ibu Ika, the owner of the restaurant, and also from their observation and exploration as the customers in Rumah Iga Bakar Kemang. The students really had fun and learned new things at the restaurant. Thank you, Rumah Iga Bakar! By Ibu Wina, EY 2 Homeroom Teacher Page 5 of 22

UNITED NATIONS DAY CELEBRATION Hello! Nǐ hao! Konnichiwa! Hallo! Ahlan Wah Sahlan! Hola! Hej! Aloha! Welcome to ECE UN Day Celebration! United Nations Day is celebrated on October 24th of each year. It is a day to celebrate the creation of the United Nations where a group of nations work together for world peace and embrace diversity. This is a joyous day where people are able to embrace cultural diversity, especially the Early Childhood children of SVP. Each class was assigned a country where they were able to experience the culture and practices through multiple activities in a day. Their classroom was decorated with traditional and/or common ornaments that represented the uniqueness of each country. For the activities, students learnt songs, greetings, and phrases from each country that was represented. A celebration would not feel complete without having a feast. With several kinds of dishes from all over the world, it was both an amazing sight and a scrumptious treat for the children. It was truly a fun celebration for both students and teachers. It was also an educational experience for the children to learn about other cultural practices of several countries outside of Indonesia. Until next year’s United Nations Celebration!

RELIGIOUS CAMP Written by Rachel MacLugash The theme for Religious Camp 2018 was: ‘Entrepreneur in Faith’. The focus was on looking at how we need to have a strong support foundation to become successful entrepreneurs. 172 students from Grades 4, 5 & 6 took part in the camp on 2nd & 3rd November and spent a night camping out in school. Students were excited to get to their rooms and find out who their
roommates and chaperones would be throughout the camp. Once everyone was unpacked it was time to head to Amarta Hall.
NOVEMBER 2018
Early morning religious sessions began before everyone met in Amarta Hall for morning exercise, followed by breakfast. Then it was time to get together in sleep room teams for the Scavenger Hunt activity! Each group paid a visit to 6 different stations and had to complete 6 different activities to collect a points card. Points were awarded for the teams showing real entrepreneurial skills such as critical thinking, problem solving and working collaboratively showing that they really were ‘Entrepreneurs in Faith’. Everyone met back in Amarta to find out who the winning teams were and for the closing of a wonderful Religious Camp. We reflected on the activities that had taken place and what lessons and memories we would take with us from
Religious Camp 2018... See you next year!
The event was opened by our School Director, Ibu Yustina, who highlighted to students that they should always choose faith and not fear. She reminded us that it is important for all of us to strengthen our faith so that we have a strong foundation to help us be risk-takers in life. Students played a fun game of ‘Forest Frolics’ led by our Vice Principal Ibu Airine (assisted by our PYP Coordinator, Ibu Early) and had lots of fun before the start of our religious activities. Students then headed off to their respective religious groups to begin the first session, followed by a delicious dinner together with everyone in the cafeteria. It was then time for the next session, followed by snack time. The final session of the day was then completed and everyone prepared for bedtime. Luckily everyone quickly went to sleep as the morning rise was very early!

Grade 3 Excursion to GS Supermarket
PRIMARY SCHOOL
By Cepi Fahrudin
Grade 3 students had a mini excursion to GS supermarket Kemang Pratama Bekasi. It was a Tuning-In activity to get them engaged with the unit. The central idea of this unit is Economic activity relies on systems of production, exchange and consumption of goods and services. The students had to find and purchase products that made in any countries in the world. The objective of this mini excursion is to make the students aware about economic activities and things that relate to trading and purchasing. They were really excited to look around, find the products and decided to buy some. They experienced being a consumer and customer by themselves. This will lead to further discussions in the classroom about needs and wants, supply and demand, production and distribution and how products are made and distributed to the customers. By doing this activity we hope that the students will be fully engaged and understand the unit thoroughly.
GRADE 6 PYP EXHIBITION TUNING IN ACTIVITY -EXCURSION TO CIREBONWritten by Pak Entus Carli
The PYP Exhibition is a culminating project which occurs in the last year of the PYP. It is an opportunity for students to exhibit the attributes of the learner profiles that they have been developing throughout their engagement with the PYP. Taking the theme of How We Express Ourselves, students were divided into 3 big groups based on their interest in art (Visual Art, Performing Art, Literary Art). To support their knowledge about it , they went to Cirebon, the most historical city in West Java. First, they went to Keraton Kasepuhan which is one of the oldest and the biggest historical palaces in Cirebon. It has throne rooms, whereas, the others are really royal houses. However, all show a fusion of architectures from their Hindu heritage to Islam, and further infused with distinct Chinese and Dutch influences, creating a unique Cirebon style architecture. Next, they learned batik painting in Salma Batik. The next day, they went to Keraton Kacirebonan to learn Mask Painting, Glass Painting, Writing Aksara Jawa and Playing Gamelan (a traditional instrument). Hopefully by getting a lot of information from this program, students can apply what they have learned in their own PYP Exhibition.

Reading develops your brain, provides a window into the world around you and helps you do better in all school subjects. Most importantly, reading can not only help you become a better student, but a better person. You can learn from the brightest people whenever and wherever you choose.
Several interesting programs also happened during our Literacy Expo, like Caught in Reading when teachers took pictures of their students while reading as well as parents at home. They needed to print the pictures to be displayed for the closing activity—Literacy Exhibition, with all evidences of their Literacy Expo activities’ work, Literacy Exhibition. During October 2018, Heerbeeck College students, from the Netherlands, visited Sekolah Victory Plus. The purpose of this visit was to learn about, and experience, Indonesian culture. Our Secondary School students did the same thing when they visited the Netherlands in March 2018. Heerbeeck College students arrived on Sunday, 14th October 2018 at Halim Perdana Kusuma Airport around 11 am. The host families met the students at the airport, and from here they continued on with their own activities. On Monday, the Heerbeeck college and SVP students visited Yayasan Prima Unggul, an orphanage in Jakarta area. Both groups of students learned that the orphanage founder supported these children from poor families, and from other towns, who were in search of a better education in Jakarta. The second day, they visited the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to learn about mutual relationships between Indonesian and European countries, especially the Netherlands. We were welcomed by the director of Public Diplomacy, the Director of Europe I, and the Vice Director. Students enjoyed a presentation on bilateral relationships between Indonesia and the Netherlands, followed by an informative and interesting question and answer session. It was an engaging session as students could learn many things about these two countries. They were encouraged to consider various aspects from multiple perspectives, and focused
particularly on how to maintain a mutual relationship in the long-term. The third day, Heerbeeck College students joined the Model United Nations event which was hosted by Sekolah Victory Plus, and were able to interact with students from other schools who were participating. Â Thursday and Friday saw the Heerbeeck and SVP students enjoy an excursion to Bandung, where they visited a tea plantation and tea factory, as well as the hot springs at Sariater, Tangkuban Perahu. In addition to that, the group visited the Museum of the Asian-African Conference and Gedung Sate. On the final day of their visit, the Heerbeeck students enjoyed their own activities with their host families, and in the afternoon, together with their host families, they gathered at SVP for a farewell party. During the party, SVP Music (Band) ECA students performed two songs, followed by a performance from the Heerbeeck College students. After the farewell party, they proceeded to the airport for their flight back to the Netherlands.
It was an amazing experience for both Heerbeeck College and SVP students alike. SVP families will certainly be happy to welcome them again in the next academic year!

Cheer.. Cheer.. The new leaders are here! By Nurul F. Purbarani and SSC The Secondary Student Council (SSC) 2017-2018 batch has come to an end, signifying the critical moment for the SVP community to introduce a fresh batch of student leaders; a new Secondary Student Council. Aside from being a source of enjoyment, the organization’s presence is bound by the school’s own tradition of supporting its own continuation. Before this memorable event, students experienced a thrilling presidential election campaign for the election of their new leaders. All secondary students were encouraged to pick the best president and vice president pair to be the new leaders of the SSC. The paired candidates were: Jason Briant Irawan & Schalke Anindya; Putera Pratama & Vallerin Aiko; and Alvin Maulana & Muhammad Faishal. Although all three pairs were amazing candidates, who have their own uniqueness and potential, only one pair was elected. All secondary students were encouraged to participate in this highlyanticipated annual event by casting in their votes in the polls. The election went on for an intense week, with all candidates doing their best to promote themselves until the closing deadline of the election. In a full week of intense friendly rivalry, the secondary school came to a consensus of an elected President and Vice President for Sekolah Victory Plus. From the democratic election, let us introduce the new president and vice president of SSC batch 2018-2019, Jason Briant Irawan and Schalke Anindya Putri! They are now officially elected as the new president and vice president of the SSC starting from the inauguration day, which was held on Monday, 15 October 2018 during the weekly assembly. During the ceremony, each member of the SSC, lead by Ibu Hesti, also declared their commitment as the official members of the SSC 2018-2019. Congratulations to all SSC 2018-2019 and good luck with your new responsibilities for the upcoming year !

SVP MODEL OF UNITED NATIONS
Written by : Pak Joe Peter
I am proud to say that SVP has been recognized by the official office of the United Nations in Jakarta as a school that is able to assist their students, at an early age, to understand about Global issues, challenges and opportunities.
Model UN is a great platform for youths to participate in global efforts in order to tackle many pressing issues. It brings together students who are not only passionate about global matters, but who are also determined to solve these through the pouring of ideas in an effective discussion.
Our Model UN this year was a platform for students to enhance their public speaking, negotiation and diplomacy skills, and as we reflect from the event, all participants were brave and encouraging in their speech, whether it was inside or outside of their respective councils. They knew that their voices and opinions matter.
In this particular year, SVP's Model UN has received a personal direct email from the United Nations Information Center in Jakarta, an official UN organization that is located in 63 countries around the globe. The acting director of UNIC Jakarta, Miss. Elisha Hazel said that nowadays, educational institutions globally are encouraged to hold Model United Nations events in order to prepare the young people for their roles in development and diplomacy throughout the world.
This is the role that our students undertook at our annual MUN event this year which focused on the grand theme – Elevating Social Wellness through the participation of Global Youths.
Participating in a Model UN can help students to have a better academic performance, and it will significantly improve their portfolios for their future endeavors. Model UN is also considered as a room for delegates, chairs and everyone to expand their network, and subsequently, the event became a good time of fellowship for all the participants.
It was a personal joy of mine that all the students enjoyed themselves, made new friends, as well as had an enriching and wonderful time. I believe it became a valuable part of their learning journeys as they took a step closer to the achievement of all of their dreams.

Indonesia has a positive growth in IB education. According to the data, there are 90 schools that implement IB programmes and Sekolah Victory Plus (SVP) itself is a continuum school which implement three programmes, PYP, MYP and DP. This year, SVP sent three teachers to the IB Asia Pacific Regional Workshop on 5 - 7 October 2018. Ibu Rachel Maclugash (PYP teacher), Bapak Benny Arimon (MYP and DP teacher) and Bapak Putu Eka Prana (MYP and NP teacher) joined PYP CAT 2, MYP Science CAT 2 and MYP Mathematics CAT 2 respectively. We also had Ibu Fifi Anggraini leading a PYP workshop. After attending this workshop, MYP teachers are expected to develop their experiences and make a deep connection between the
programme’s framework and their classroom practice. They will prepare lessons which engage the students and make them have the responsibility for their learning. As professionals, they will also develop a collaborative and collegial approach to the structures and principles of the subject group aims and objectives, concepts, contexts and approaches to learning skills. The teachers reflect upon the relevance, innovation and rigour of the student-centred environments they have created and make continuous improvement. Last but not least, the teachers have a wider network among the IB educators to share challenges and successes in a continued effort to align the school's educational beliefs and values to reflect those of the IB to create a challenging programme of international education.

Leading a Session in ANPS Leadership Forum 2018. Sekolah Victory Plus has been building a mutual relationship with the organization of Association of National and Private Schools (ANPS) in Indonesia. We regularly send our team to learn and build networks with other educators through the ANPS Conferences. On the other hand, we are also a great resource for ANPS as we regularly send our leaders and teachers to lead sessions in their conference to share our expertise in education. Recently, ANPS held the 14th Leadership Forum on 26-27 October 2018 in Bali with the theme of “Professional Growth for Continuous School Improvement”. Aligned with the theme, Ibu Maria (ECE Principal) and Ibu Esterlita (PS Principal) led a session entitled “Teachers as Learners” Starting a Professional Learning Community (PLC) at School” and it was attended by some leaders from schools around Indonesia. They shared the PLC programme that was started in ECE and PS last school year. PLC is a school environment where teachers work collaboratively in purposefully designed groups to improve student achievement within a structure of support provided by the school administrators.
Instead of the traditional training approach, a quality professional development in the 21st century will draw on the skills of inquiry and generative thinking to suits the needs of 21st century learning, thus PLC is the right answer for it. The session first talked about the importance of PLC as a strategy to improve teachers’ competency that will lead to improving students’ achievements. Then it discussed the PLC edifice that consists of the factors that support a successful PLC at school. Ibu Maria and Ibu Lita also shared the challenges when starting the PLC and the strategies to overcome them. Lastly, they ended the session by sharing the process, documents and the photo compilation of the PLC in Sekolah Victory Plus. It was a great sharing time as part of SVP’s contribution for a better education in our community. “ I t ' s m o r e i m p o r t a n t t h a n e v e r t h a t educators collaborate to continually improve and support the success of each learner” – Dr. Gene Carter. SVP iddle and high school futsal teams achieved 3rd place. We also had some positive results with our girls basketball team who came 2nd even though they were the team that had just been formed this academic year. November 17th was the last day of this year's secondary tournament, The high school basketball match was the closing event. As an organizing school, we achieved some very encouraging results: 1st place for o u r boys team, and 2nd

We always try to bring a different concept every y e a r. L a s t y e a r w e successfully held a swimming race, but in 2018 we wanted badminton on our event list. Why? NOVEMBER 2018
We, the 2018-2020 PSG committee appreciate the trust and the support the family of Sekolah Victory Plus has given us. Our first even was on Wednesday November 7, 2018 entitled "The PSG's Morning Tea. Those who participated included the whole PSG members, the School Director, Ibu Yustina, the School Advisor, Mr. Thompson, the General Manager, Ibu Esti, the Marketing Communication Manager, Ibu Cristina, and a few class parents. Even though the weather became cloudy and rainy, it did not affect our spirit to socialize and make this programme work for the following year 2018-2019 for every commission that the PSG has, which includes the Education Commission, Parents Activity Commission and the Care Commission. Our PSG leader, Ibu Veronica event while it started with a opening prayer led by our PSG Secretary, Ibu Peggy F. Nagashima. The leaders of each commission shared their programme. Ibu Neny Djunaedi began sharing the programme from the Education Commission. The next presenter was Ibu Ancella Maya the Parents Activity Commission. The third presentation was by Ibu Liliz Muchtar from the Care Commission. Finally, the fourth presentation was by Ibu Yulie Kurniawan, our Treasurer; she presented the budget report. Other than that, from the school's side, Mr. Thompson, also socialized the design and the content of the new SVP website which can be accessed by all parents for educational purposes. Ibu Yustina, shared news about our Primary Principal Ibu Esterlita and her surgery. Ibu Esti gave information about the second Open House which was to take place on November 10, 2018.Finally Ibu Christina talked about the promotional event that took place in one of the malls in Bekasi. We hope that with the PSG's Morning Tea, we would be able to strengthen our consistency in giving our best in supporting the school and the children in their education. We ask that the Class Parents pass on the information from each of the PSG activities to their respective classes in the hope of participating actively and also maintaining two way communication continuously.

To raise awareness, understanding and appreciation of the important role the teacher the hope plays in education, PSG celebrated World Teacher's Day on the 5th of October 2018. On that day is a day to sincerely thank a teacher and tell them how much they mean to our children. The theme of this year is "Today you Lead the students, tomorrow your students will lead the world “. There was something different in celebrating the world teachers’ day this year, as on October 5th, SVP held an internal staff gathering, which was attended by all teachers and staff in the evening. What a perfect timing for us to celebrate the event, a special day for teachers and attended by all SVP teachers. The event was opened by the MCs and followed with the World Teachers’ Day ceremony by PSG. Ibu Rita spoke on behalf of the Parents, and to express our appreciation, we sang "Semua Karena Cinta" led by Bapak Edwin as the keyboardist (one of SVP parents). I can see that all of us who were in Pandawa room (where we celebrated this special day) were very happy and enjoyed the celebration. We, the parents, teachers and staff sang together, even Pak Steven also joined us to

sing the song. It was very touching. After singing the song, the PSG team served a cake to share to some representative teachers, given by the SVP SMT team. After that, Ibu Maria spoke on behalf of the school. This year, a cup of pudding and pouch were shared as the souvenir to all the teachers and staffs. After the symbolic souvenir presentation, we all took a picture, a group picture as usual to be one of our memories. Cheers…! A representative Class Parents from the ECE, Primary, and Secondary also joined the celebration. Once again to all SVP teachers, thank you for being our child’s second parent and thank you for being an outstanding teacher for our children.
Happy World Teacher's Day…! By Vera Sisca For Education Commission
