design philosophy Pablo Picasso once said, “The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away.” Interior Design has always interested me, because it is a pathway that encourages the use of creativity. As a Junior Interior Designer, I am always inspired by my surroundings and experiences. I strive to align the design environment with the lives that will inhabit them. I’m driven to understand more about design and view it as an impactful tool that elevates the world around us.

jester’s billiards Firm: 3rd Story

Location: Gilbert, AZ In-progress

Jester’s Billiards stands as a local favorite for the billiards community, featuring over 30 pool tables, darts, and a successful partnership with Rino D’s pizzeria. The ongoing changes made by the client to the space were met with a noticeable rise in customer attendance after each update. Our team aimed to put the finishing touch on the project by updating the bar area, ensuring seamless integration with the client’s existing space and encouraging an improved workflow.

the meadows behavioral health: acute Firm: 3rd Story

Location: Wickenburg, AZ

In-Progress

The Meadows is a behavioral healthcare facility dedicated to mental health and specific addiction support, offering three types of treatment: residential, outpatient, and virtual. During my time at 3rd Story, we had the privilege of constructing a residential treatment campus to cater to a diverse age group. The facility encompassed classrooms, group therapy rooms, creative spaces, outdoor activities, living quarters, and workspaces for staff. Given the nature of behavioral healthcare, our aim was to employ evidence-based design, fostering trust and creating environments that promote comfort for both patients and employees. The larger building, Acute, comprises two levels—one for men and one for women. It includes dining rooms on each floor, living spaces, a gym, group therapy areas, an art room, and offices for staff. 16

the meadows behavioral health: adolescent Firm: 3rd Story

Location: Wickenburg, AZ In-Progress

Apart from the Acute building, Adolescent is a dormitory on The Meadows’ campus, serving as the initial residential treatment facility for the younger generation at this site. Consistent with the design approach observed in other campus buildings, Adolescent incorporates evidence-based design, with a particular focus on color theory and biophilia. The use of soothing colors and incorporation of natural elements enhances the overall environment, emphasizing the importance of improving mental well-being. Beyond living spaces, the building features a doctor’s office, nurse station, nurse lounge, quiet room, and multi-purpose room designed for both classroom learning as well as leisure activities.

saunders residence Firm: 3rd Story

Location: Pinetop, AZ

In-Progress

Situated in Pinetop, Arizona, the Saunders Residence is a newly constructed home tailored for a retired couple. The interior design of the house draws inspiration from the Japanese philosophy of Wabi-Sabi, celebrated for discovering perfection within imperfection. Various methods were employed to manifest Wabi-Sabi, creating a space that is simple yet “perfectly imperfect.” Implementing a palette of neutral colors, incorporating raw materials, and embracing biophilia were essential to capture the essence of this design concept.

the vitri bachelor pad Firm: 3rd Story

Location: Scottsdale, AZ

Throughout my 2021 summer internship at 3rd Story, the primary focus centered on crafting a vintage, mid-century moderninspired bachelor pad. The project’s objective involved sourcing authentic vintage pieces, both locally and out of state, to furnish a unit within the Vitri Apartments situated in Scottsdale Quarter. This experience proved exceptionally enlightening as it operated at a brisk pace, necessitating tasks such as creating drawings, specification packages, mood boards, budgeting, and overseeing FF&E orders.

38

responsibilities: Drawing furniture plan. Selecting FF&E with Principal Architect and Project Manager.

software: Revit Adobe Creative Cloud Microsoft Office Suite

Budgeting and ordering all items for unit.

kalimantan hut senior thesis

There is an Indonesian community residing in Phoenix, Arizona, but there are little to no options for dining or grocery shopping specific to their culture. In response, this project focuses on providing a market for Indonesian ingredients as well as a restaurant that introduces Indonesian cuisine to a community that has minimal exposure. Offering Indonesian food to the Phoenix area will provide the current Indonesian community with a meaningful dining experience and present a new cuisine to other Phoenix residents, while the Indonesian grocery store allows guests to purchase culturally significant ingredients. The connection and blending of these two spaces will offer a variety of meal types and encourage guests to learn more about Indonesian culture as they can bring part of their experience home with them. Not only will the space introduce a new cuisine to the area, but will also help address social issues through the promotion of sustainability, like minimal waste, and addressing food insecurity.

norton healthcare: women’s clinic This Norton Healthcare project was one-third of a larger, collaborative vision called, Studio Louisville. A studio from each of the University of Kentucky’s Landscape Architecture, Architecture, and Interior Design departments came together to address different issues occurring in Louisville, Kentucky. The School of Interiors focused on what an outpatient facility would look like inside of a dying mall, embracing the idea of a 15-minute city. Interior design students worked in groups to transform an old Sears residing in Jefferson Mall into a Norton Healthcare facility and individual students were responsible for their own clinic.

54

In the Women’s Health Clinic, it’s incredibly important to create a comforting environment that encourages informative conversations between the female patients and their physicians. There is a large range of services provided to these women and it’s especially important to consider that these women not only want to learn more about their health, but may be coming into the clinic with child. This clinic will hold place for many serious conversations and patients may bring family members, a partner, friend, or their children. It is significant to accomodate for patients and their loved ones by providing multiple options for seating and private spaces for personal conversations. Using hospitality-inspired design can ease any stress for patients. Introducing softer seating, accents of color, complimentary stations, acoustical privacy, family zones, and conversational spaces that embrace hospitable design introduces the group’s core values - choice, services + amenities, comfort, and privacy. It’s crucial that the patients who enter the Women’s Clinic can feel comfortable having serious conversations regarding their health with their physician.

models + sketches Models and sketches created throughout my experience in the Interiors program. In the Second year of the Interiors program, there was a large focus on model and material studies. I was able to understand the relationship between certain materials by experimenting with chipboard, cement, sheet metal, hot glue, paint, tissue paper, wax and matboard. These models were done to help understand how materials and form can create something together, like reflection. During my fourth year, I took a DIY Maker class to help complete my certification in Digital Literacy where I designed and laser cut a lighting fixture. The sketches are collected from different years within the program, including quick sketches to detailed sketches. Mediums used included pencil and watercolor. Inspiration came from project ideas, museum exhibits, and well-known architecture structures like Frank Lloyd Wright’s, Falling Water.
