Welcome

Dear Friends & Colleagues, This e-mag serves as a temporary placeholder only. Here some exciting news for present and future members: At the recent events at our Villa Padierna Palace Hotel in Marbella, Spain - the inauguration of The International Hospitality Hall of Fame and the grand gala of the coveted Signum Virtutis accolades, attended by more than 200 industry leaders - I was approached by quite a few colleagues of HotelierGuild as well as from other interested parties who voiced their desire for a much closer collaboration. Well, we heard you and we are now working hard to launch an all new HoteliersGuild website together with important strategic partners from our industry and an interesting range of additional offers and tools for you! Our close relationship with some of the finest hoteliers from around the globe enabled us to plan exciting new cooperations. SV Hotels & Resorts has successfully been launched, our Luxury Alliance Partners concept is now in full swing. It provides affiliated colleagues to consistently redefine their offer of personal experience, highly personalized guest services, r e s i d e n t i a l h o s p i t a l i t y, e l e g a n c e a n d sophistication by bundling professional expertise from within our private society. HoteliersGuild’s guiding philosophy is that excellence is not an aspiration, but an ongoing commitment to sustainability and and eco-
luxury in all the respective aspects of modern hotel-keeping. Looking back a few years, when we started HoteliersGuild as “The Exclusive Global Society of Discerning Hoteliers who embrace the Principles of Deeper&Sustainable Luxury...", we did this with the kind assistance of just a few obliging ‘Ambassadors’, fellow hoteliers who shared our foresight and embraced our philosophy. Today, with an impressive global membership and the active help of our supporting partners, we still stand firm to our policy of not admitting applicants. We are not just a listing site, and we definitely do not solicit membership. Affiliation may be obtained only by personal nomination and subsequent invitation through an Ambassador or Trustee, followed by the approval of our Board of Directors and an introductory courtesy visit.
With warm personal regards & best wishes, Frank M. Pfaller Founder President & CEO

Raison d’être HoteliersGuild is the ultimate membership community for those at or aspiring to the pinnacle of the hospitality industry. When we started some five years ago as “The global association of discerning hoteliers, a closed, private and strictly confidential web-tool, utilised by active, professional hoteliers for their families and their respective properties, as a means to initiate, implement and guide social interaction and creativity among members…”, we did this with the kind assistance of a few willing ‘Ambassadors’, fellow hoteliers who shared our foresight and embraced our philosophy.
Today, with an impressive global membership and the active help of most distinguished supporting partners from our industry, ‘Special Trustees’ for ‘Branding & Marketing’, ‘Global Luxury Hotel Investment’, ‘Branded Hotel Networking’, ‘Hotelier-TV’ etc., we still stand firm to our policy of not admitting ‘applicants’: Overwhelmed by the initial response from friends and colleagues from our industry subsequent to its introduction, we are now greatly stimulated by the fact that HoteliersGuild has gathered momentum with presently well above seventy member hoteliers world-wide. However, it is very important to understand that we are not just a listing site, that we definitely do not solicit membership, and affiliation of fellow hoteliers may be obtained only by personal nomination and subsequent invitation through an Ambassador or Trustee, followed by the approval of our Board of Directors. This also takes advantage of the various tools which are so kindly on offer to you by WorldGuide, our supporting web-platform which puts an array of additional communications, marketing & PR tools as well as other interesting guest services at the fingertips of our membership.
However, members are not to be worried regarding an additional workload: It is entirely up to them how deeply they wish to get involved, but due to their own standing in our industry, we expect an inspiring and constructive exchange of ideas and intellectual contributions to our cause. In simple terms: The ‘duties’ of a Member are really defined by how much one is prepared to contribute and as a result, receive back from our colleagues! And finally, it is also important to understand the truly ‘independent & private character’ of HoteliersGuild, which is aimed towards the individual hotelier and not toward the group or chain he or she may be associated with.
So, if you feel that you ‘belong’, feel free to seek a recommendation and subsequent nomination through one of the esteemed members of our Board of

NEWS Hello Whole World Water ________________________________________
We just returned from the annual SLOW LIFE Symposium hosted by Sonu and Eva Shivdasani of Soneva Group. The SLOW LIFE Symposium is held annually by the SLOW LIFE Foundation and convenes business leaders, scientists, NGOs, renowned thinkers and policy makers to help accelerate progress towards environmental sustainability. The Symposium is an intimate event that convenes people with purpose: each and every participant is there because they are committed to positive change that is also good for business. In fact, it was at the Symposium in 2011 that the idea for WHOLE WORLD Water was hatched! And since then, we have member hotels, resorts and restaurants all over the world participating in WHOLE WORLD Water - reducing their costs, increasing their revenue, reducing their plastic waste and significantly increasing funds for clean & safe water initiatives around the world. To find out more about the SLOW LIFE symposium please visit slowlifesymposium.com.

We are proud to announce that we now have 7 projects working on the ground through our partnerships with Water for People, One Drop and Water Charity. Here is an overview of one of our Cambodia Projects in partnership with Water Charity & the Peace Corp: Kampong Trach is the district town within a commune of over 5,000 people. It is heavily dependent on the rice farming industry. The provincial town, Svay Rieng, which is connected by the local highway is 42km south and the the Vietnamese boarder is 10k east. Kampong Trach Primary School, with nearly 900 registered students is the largest primary school in Romeas Hek District, and students who continue to study go the Romeus Hek High School 2km down the road. There is no accessible water on the school grounds. Water for drinking, hygiene, cooking and cleaning must be brought in each day from a neighboring house. This project will install a pump and runoff system for the well, and also restore the rainwater catchment system to full functionality. In addition, sanitation and hygiene sessions will be conducted by the school staff for all primary and high school students. The project will be directed by Peace Corp Volunteer, Gianni Bisio and will provide the safe water for all of the needs of the school. Thank you WHOLE WORLD Water members for all that you do to help reduce plastic waste and increase funds for clean & safe water initiatives around the world. And remember members, nominate your Champions today! Please be sure to join the conversation on twitter with @wholeworldwater. Speak soon! The WHOLE WORLD Water Team

Matteo Thun was born in Bolzano, Italy, studied at the Salzburg Academy under Oskar Kokoschka, took his degree in architecture in Florence in 1975 with Adolfo Natalini and moved to Milan in 1978, where he met and started working with Ettore Sottsass. In 1981. He was a co-founder of the Memphis group, the design movement that so shaped events in the eighties.
Matteo Thun stands for long lasting solutions with holistic approach. Architecture means designing the soul of the place. This implies an aesthetic, economic and technological sustainability. It means to create a synthesis of the existing, the purpose and the area. The solution is different, each time.
Product design must reflect the soul of the brand. It is architecture of simple, pure and beautiful gestures to serve a daily life that goes well beyond our present life.
His Buergentock Healthy Living concept as seen above,is immersed in the biosphere created by the forest and gently stepping down the slope thanks to its terraced shape, the hotel overlooks Lake Lucerne and offers panoramic views on the mountain scape. The use of local stone and the façade’s wooden lattice structure, which is reminiscent of local Walser architecture, seamlessly integrate the architectural complex into the wild. The use of lake water (to cool technical equipment and for wastewater uses), the “green” roofs for temperature regulation and the room’s southern exposure ensure a high level of energy efficiency.

“Eco-Friendliness is intrinsic of a design aware of the craftsmanship and of the materials easily available. These aspects create emotional attachment and generate the ideal value of objects, transforming them into timeless pieces.
Hamburg based architectural practice Störmer Murphy and Partners together with Italian Architect Matteo Thun & Partners have won the competition for the new Grand Hotel “The Fontenay”, situated on the Alster riverside in Hamburg.
With a budget of more than 100 Million Euros, investor Klaus-Michael Kühne, executive chairman and majority owner of Kühne + Nagel Logistics, intends to define a new hanseatic way of luxury.
The hotel building will be characterised by wide glazed surfaces and white ceramic façade elements, resembling a Gleaming Solitaire. The fluid lines of the ground plan and the rooftop take up the smooth lines of the riverside. The nine-story building will host a starred restaurant and a wellness area on the upper floors, offering an unobstructed view on the lake downtown. Even the Infinity-Pool with an in- and outdoor area allows the guests to enjoy a privileged view on the Alster river. The hotel will feature 130 suites with a 45 to 250 square metre surface as well as 20 residences.
