Dear Frank,

This letter is intended as my personal thank you to you personally and to the Hoteliers Guild team for awarding me with the Sirius Academy Award.

Receiving such a prestigious award fills me with joy and makes me proud to be part of a world, the hospitality’s one, which consider to be more like a family.

Your commitment is remarkable in conveying the message of hospitality to those in and outside the industry, in such a complex and tough period, but a period also full of prospects.

feel particularly attached to this award, because after a career of over 26 years in the world of wellness design, in which have expanded my skills to various other fields while always trying to maintain a holistic approach, believe that this is an award not only to the career but also to the person.

My personal journey has not been easy and has involved a lot of sacrifice, but believe that having brought the concept of wellness to a wider audience through my design has put “Man” and not “Space” at the centre, elevating the human being to the ultimate goal of all endeavours.

Working with the best luxury Brands in the world, travelling and having known many people has made me feel part of something bigger, a sensation that this award has perfectly recognised.

Gosh am so excited and elated. shall enjoy the moment and then bring my feet back to the ground and use this moment of recognition to help support others to also take robust steps on their own Sustainability journey, which is now more urgent than ever.. Whilst writing you may already be aware, but am stepping down from my role as General Manager of Whatley Manor From the 23rd November 2023. will however remain as their Sustainability Advisor and be on a retainer for these services. will also remain as mentor to Executive Chef Ricki Weston, in the hope that my 32 years career in Michelin Properties and 22 of those years at 2 Star Michelin will be able to benefi Ricki further in his career. On top of this am establishing myself as a “Sustainability Advisor” to hospitality. This will be in place from 15th January 2024. Our company, The Red Carnation Hotel Collection was founded by my mother Beatrice Tollman almost 40 years ago, but her career in hospitality began in the 1950s at time when there were few women in business. At the age of 18 she was working with my father in South Africa and from the very start she was aware of the limited opportunities for women to progress in the hotel industry. As woman in a predominantly a man’s world she would often feel disrespected and dismissed. She made commitment to ensure women in our company would have equal opportunities to grow and progress as well as receive equal pay and feel safe and secure. She made that happen and has always encouraged our female team members to be the best they can be. Today we are proud that over 51% pf our teams are female with many holding senior roles within the company, and we consistently strive to provide the safest and most equal workplace possible. Our employee resource group includes woman’s circle which offers support, guidance and assistance to ensure equal opportunities and treatment for the ladies of Red Carnation. As this is very close to our hearts, we were delighted to be a part of the Leading Hôteliéres/EHL study, with many of our hotels participating. We are most grateful to Frank and his colleagues for their passion and dedication in highlighting the need for and importance of an equal gender environment. My siblings and are so proud to continue my mother’s legacy and uphold the values and precedent she began over 70 years ago.
