Modern Learning Environment (MLE)
The core function of the MLE classroom is to provide learning spaces that complement the different ways in which we learn. So the questions to ask are: “does the furniture allow for collaborative or small group work and enable the creation of a variety of room layouts”, plus is it “ergonomically designed to suit a variety of student physical sizes”.
Learning styles Recognising learning styles, and providing the areas for each style of learner is the key to MLE
Logical learners These are students who move to the area of the class that will suit what they are doing. If it is group work, they will move to the conference area, for study they will move to more solitary areas.
Creative learners These students will prefer lower spaces with individual seating, but the ability to also be with others because they like to see what others are doing.
Controlled learners The student that loves individual space, because they don’t get distracted, but also because they can keep their personal items close.
Interpersonal learners Students who want to sit and face each other in group situations where they can interact as much as they need to.
