Anuja is currently pursuing M.A. Graphic Design at Academy of Art University, San Francisco, USA. She has academic background in digital publishing, typography, print design, packaging, game design strategy and also has work experience at Leaf Design (Mumbai, India), Leanplum and Gensler, San Francisco, CA. She is exploring and enjoying every evolution and extension of design. She is always passionate to know and learn more about the fundamentals of interaction design. She is a linguist, who can speak five different languages. The work experience and education in the field of Graphic Design as a core subject has taught her problem solving and the importance of empathy in the world of design. Breaking her boundaries for new vision, traveling, cooking, networking and gaining various insight from others is a major part of her life. CONCEPT /

To translate a chosen film director’s ideology and vision into a complex set of materials that function together as a unified aesthetic and as an integrated visual system.

Symphonic Dissonance is a film festival to honor the most celebrated Italian director Federico Fellini. Influenced by the psychoanalyst Carl Jung, he developed a distinctive style of cinematography and storytelling. His power of visualizing the story is an experience, that cannot be narrated verbally. He instead had the tendency to emphasize images over ideas, which have you thinking about his movie. Fellini’s movies are also based on his personal dreams and how he balanced his life in reality and in his dreams. Derived from research, the theme of this film festival focused on “A theory of irrational belief which is left open for interpretation”. And the common thread that connects all his movies is “An escape into dreams to survive the hollow contemporary realities, by masking their emotional disturbance. Not sure if they are content and have overcome the moral conventions and unresolved guilts.” Thus visual language and system for this project got translated into dreamlike and psychotic visuals that would engage the audience from the fast paced disrupted era.

CONCEPT /

To explore the Human Centered Design processes and build skills needed to create a well-considered, mobile, on-screen, user experience. The App has to have unique concept and have at least 3 native iPhone functions.

‘Tripogather’ is a social purchasing service application for iPhones. It is designed for solo travelers who are looking for companions to share ticket deals. This app encourages users to explore places/events together in order to improve their vacation experience for individuals to meet people with different cultural backgrounds with similar interests as well as save some money. This app would help users by tracking their current location and provide information on nearby events, tourist places and match people with similar interests at the moment.

CONCEPT /

This project required a topic proposal. Based on the project topic there was a need to identify its relevant audience and stakeholders. Then, create and implement compelling visual elements in a variety of media that work together as a cohesive system.

‘Intertwine’ is a platform for crafts people to collaborate with entrepreneurs to gain better marketing skills and visibility for their creativity. For centuries, art and handcrafts have played an important role in the religious and social lives of indigenous people all over the world. ‘Intertwine’ would create a sustainable world for artisans, designers & entrepreneurs. This organization would also build an inspiring community action to develop a sustainable livelihood through learning design, enhancing their skills and develop markets for themselves. This community will encourage artisans to participate in corporate events and activities to showcase their skills. The curiosity in both artisans, designers, and entrepreneurs to get to know about each other across the world would be bridged through activities, and interactive events conducted by this organization.

CONCEPT /

An exercise to transition the toy Bop-it into a mobile app game by retaining the games personality and making it timeless.

‘Bop-it’ as a toy prepares you to follow a series of instructions that you conceive of as your own desires and enjoyment. Research was conducted to find out when people play games on their phone. Based on the research ‘Sense it’ is intended for user’s above the age of 8 who commute with their parents on a daily basis. The concept of this app is based on how people want to play depending on their mood that day. This game has different modes: Calm, Bubbly and Ridiculous. The modes are based on the different type of moods. The user’s would choose a mode depending on the their mood. Each mode has its own rules and regulations and interactions which make it fun and enjoyable.

This project required a complex topic which could be simplified through content, info graphics, charts, illustrations, and photography. The final deliverable would be a typographic system in the form of a book and E-Publication for Ipad.

CONCEPT /

‘Dance as art form’ is the chosen complex topic which focused on Bharat Natyam, a classical Indian dance. The movements of an authentic Bharat Natyam dancer resemble the movements of a dancing flame and is considered to be a fire dance. Some components of this dance are expression,music, rhythm and the particular movements. In relation to its basic techniques, this dance can be called a geometric dance form. (As) The dancer begins from the vertical standing position and begins carving geometric shapes along the dance floor. Having these attributes in mind, the book was also designed with a glossary, simplified text and illustrations. The design of this book would inform people who are unaware of the dance and take an interest in the subject. This book was later translated into digital publication which is responsive to the orientation with fluid layouts and interactive visual, where people can download this book and read it on their iPad.

This project required a unique concept for an app that at the moment didn’t exist in the app world and which was an immediate need.

‘Out of the Box’ is a mobile and Ipad app designed for students/ teachers / Team leaders. This application will help generate new ideas for projects or for people looking for ideas to self initiate projects or ventures. This app is not only for generating ideas but also to map them out logically. It prompts words, questions and images during your brainstorming sessions and helps to overcome mind blocks. This app is a collaborative tool which can be used by individuals and by a group of team members or friends in order to instantly save/share their thoughts on the projects. The app also has the capability to track the articles and news updates one would want to read or have read until now. It tracks the event or places one might have visited and associates the information to nurture further generated ideas.

CONCEPT /

A cohesive brand system and design deliverables recreated for a handwritten shop sign by expanding the intended meaning and leveraging a visual vernacular.

The chosen sign was from the shop named ‘African Outlet’. A traditional tiny shop that lures San Francisco locals, with its broad range of unique African decor items, cultural goods & jewelry. The primary intentions of the shop sign was to promote the authenticity and unique selection of their products. The second intention was to get more customers to walk into the store. Based on the study of the sign board, the new branding direction was to leverage the visual vernacular of a traditional African souvenir shop. The new visual directions were inspired from the authentic African textile block print and typography styles. The deliverables shared a vibrant palette and patterns created for each category and product imagery that educated and promised an unforgettable experience in the shop.

08 TIME REINVENTION /

CONCEPT /

This project was about reinventing a time line by using alternative measurement elements than the typical measurement units ‘Hours, Minutes, Seconds’. The idea is to create an artifact which would be a compelling and interesting story form narrated through a commonly used visual vernacular.

‘Sneezo’ is a nasal trauma incident narrating the conditions of a sinusitis person. The visuals narrate the different phases of one’s nose, what they do and I feel through the journey of recovery. The primary measurement of time is the number of tissues, one uses while sneezing. And the visuals depicted the activities and some health conditions which take place during this time line. All these visuals are then translated into an info graphic which is then applied on an appropriate product that represents the story.
