the elements of innovation SEMI expositions are places where people, products, ideas, and solutions come together, enabling the collaboration and information exchange that fosters innovation in the design and manufacture of electronic products that enrich our lives. These “elements of innovation” are part of every SEMI exposition. From the show floor to technical sessions, networking events, and other forums of collaboration, SEMI events bring together the best and brightest companies, people, and technologies from across the microelectronics universe.

Beyond Innovation As in past year’s, the overall expositions theme can be extended to reflect specific segments or different types of interaction:

the elements of collaboration the elements of cooperation the elements of community the elements of illumination the elements of exposition

2011 Look and Feel This Global Expositions Style Guide demonstrates how to best utilize the elements developed for the 2011 SEMICON look and feel. On this page you see some of the design possibilities that can be created from the look and feel’s “kit of parts.” The “kit” is made of design elements that can be combined into expo visual communications, and includes:

CONSTRUCTING THE LOOK AND FEEL

1B

1) The Background

1A

The background of the page should appear to be white, behind either two images of different elements (1A) or a single image, which can be flattened and saturated with a multiplied color overlay (1B).

page

2011

OCTOBER 2010 / V.1b

2B

2) Metallic Stripe

2A

Metallic-look stripes of different colors can be selected from the stripe library on page 16. The stripe may also wrap around to a back page and it’s height should either match the image space above it, at the top of the page (2A) or float over the background image (2B). The SEMICON show logo and show information text should appear within the stripe and may be positioned horizontally left, right or centered.

3B

3) Design Elements

3A

Radius-cornered boxes, with 1-point keylines, in single rows (3A) or evenly-stacked groups (3B) can be used as design elements. Individual boxes can be removed to create open areas for type or logos.

4) Photography Photos (elements, industry technology, show floor images) may be used within the radiuscornered boxes. All boxes framing a photo or information should use 100% of the keyline color. Photos can be placed in individual boxes, or run through a set of neighboring boxes. Refer to page 17 for a library of selected element images.

5) Background Fractal (optional) As a design option, a single fractal can be selected from any set from the fractal library on page 13. The fractal should appear large and bleed off the page edge. The fractal can be filled with opaque or transparent color, and should not interfere with the legibility of the text.

These logotypes can be used in simplified reusable show signage, and work well on promotional items.

DON’TS

Logotypes Two versions of each SEMICON and SOLARCON logotype are available for use: 1 The official “stacked” version, with the region name and year appearing below the exposition name in italics 2 An “in-line” version with no year designation FPD and LED logotypes are in-line only. Whenever possible, the official exposition logotype with current year should be used. On applications where a date is not desired (ex: on signage that will be used for more than one year; on giveaways and clothing that can be used for more than one year), use the in-line version of the logotype: Never remove the year from the official, dated logotype or attempt to create a “stacked” logotype without a date. In these applications, always use the in-line, non-year-specific logotype. NEVER attempt to create or re-create a SEMI Exposition logotype. Official logos for all expositions are available in a variety of file types, in color, black-and-white, and reversed (white-on-clear). If you require a logotype that is not available, please contact SEMI HQ Marketing.

EXPOSITION COLORING POSSIBILITIES

Basic Blending Modes for Backgrounds and Fractals The color palette for each exposition is unique. FRACTAL LIBRARY

Fractal Sets Fractal sets are interchangeable for any show. Different fractal sets may be used on various show pieces. However, only one fractal set is to be used per piece. Note on Use of “Fractals” Because there is continued creative value in the geometric “fractal” graphics from the previous expositions lookand-feel, and because many shows have invested in reusable signage that incorporate these graphics and whose use can be extended further, we have kept the fractals as an optional graphic element for use.

Fractals are not the dominant graphic feature of the current look-and-feel, and their use should be limited. Unlike past designs, we no longer layer multiple fractal images, choosing instead to present only one fractal pattern in any given design application.
