GREETINGS!
The new year is already underway, and I hope you all enjoyed a happy and healthy holiday season with your nearest and dearest. At SenesTech, we are excited to launch into 2020 with a clearer vision than ever before. In last quarter’s newsletter, I mentioned how energized we felt by what was to come, so I’m delighted to share those details here and now. We wrapped up 2019 with a better understanding of where we’ve been and where we need to go. Our marketing department has embarked on a campaign to polish our brand for a more precise reflection of what we do and what we’re motivated to deliver. Specifically, we’re redirecting our image from the research firm based in sound science, to the company that delivers the strategic solutions our customers need to combat costly and challenging rat infestations. Speaking of customer solutions, have you visited the newly launched SenesTech Online Store? This innovative ecommerce platform allows customers to order ContraPest direct, from wherever they are located, whenever they need it. This is our latest strategy to support our customers and deliver solutions in a convenient, user-friendly manner. There’s so much more to share with you and I invite you to explore these pages for details on these developments. Between the clarity of our 2020 vision, the strategic reevaluation and redirection of our brand, professional product education designed to answer our customers’ pressing questions, and exciting news about our expanded location, SenesTech is set up for success in 2020. Of course, don’t miss our regularly scheduled content featuring Updated Resources and our Preferred Partner Spotlight. From all of us at SenesTech, we thank you for your continued support and enthusiasm for our innovative products. We are ready to raise the bar even higher with our 2020 vision.

With the new year well underway, SenesTech is proud to share our vision for 2020, which has never been clearer. Our goal is to enhance the foundation and expand the awareness we secured during the second half of 2019. By doing so, we move forward, honed in on our strengths to send our success factors spiraling. Our marketing team is eager to execute, and nurture leads for sales growth, based on the following initiatives. To start, our Lead Scoring will be fine-tuned to target a precise suspect behavior in order to accurately convert marketing qualified leads to sales qualified leads. Our tools for expanding brand awareness include message consistency for top of mind recognition. In order to support this recognition, we have streamlined our lead processing and sales through integrated systems. Ultimately, we are publicly shifting the identification of SenesTech as a science and research firm to highlight the fact that we are confident in our commercial capabilities, which we’ve developed to deliver the solutions that customers really want and need.

SenesTech understands that a brand must be dynamic and true to its current state. As the saying goes, “two heads are better than one,” and at SenesTech this is certainly the case. The SenesTech sales structure is the embodiment of this expression with our sales and technical team collaborating according to expert precision, delivering optimal results for our customers. Supporting one another, the Sales and Technical teams drive the momentum behind SenesTech’s research and development efforts. Here, we spotlight a few details that make each team really shine. Our Sales team knows our products inside and out but focuses specifically on how ContraPest can address each customer’s individual and unique needs. Part of this team’s magic involves following up with leads and keeping in touch with customers on a monthly basis. If problems arise, who does the Sales team contact?
You got it! The Technical team. Boasting serious experience using ContraPest in the field, our Tech team provides exceptional guidance on how to use, deploy, and troubleshoot ContraPest applications for our PMPs and end users. Part of their knowledge extends to educating and training potential customers on how best to use ContraPest on their specific sites. For this reason, the Tech team fosters very close relationships with our customers.
Please join us in saluting our Sales and Tech team — the dynamic duo that supports SenesTech’s mission every day.

Parsing out our Products — ContraPest v. SenesTech Control SHARON DINGES – PRODUCT MANAGER
Show of hands if you have experienced some confusion when it comes to understanding the difference between ContraPest and SenesTech Control and when or how to use either. We get it! That’s why we’ve decided to delve into the differences between these two products, detailing the most appropriate use of each to help guide your rat control strategy.
Let’s start with the similarities… Common Ground Shared by ContraPest and SenesTech Control ContraPest and SenesTech Control are both designed for use with Norway and roof rat populations. They work together, in that SenesTech Control helps determine optimal deployment strategies. Don’t let the word “Control” in SenesTech Control confuse you. This does not mean rat control, as in controlling a rat population. So... What Does it Mean? You’ve probably heard of “control groups” in other medical or scientific research case studies. Control Groups are used to test the safety and efficacy of medicines, supplements, etc. If you were to participate in a Control Group for a more potent, yet single daily dosage of vitamin C, for example, you might actually be given a sugar pill or other placebo. These products do not contain the active ingredients being evaluated, but you, as a control subject, wouldn’t know that.
6
Similarly, the SenesTech team needed a way to test the efficacy of our rat contraceptive control, ContraPest, that would ensure the rats actually liked and would consume the inactive ingredients. This is why we sell SenesTech Control as a pre-bait product to help our PMPs and end-users determine the best places for ContraPest deployment. Why Did SenesTech Bring SenesTech Control Pre-Bait to Market? You likely know that rats can be neophobic, wary about new items they encounter in their environment. Something as simple as a new bait station will activate neophobia. Even when the rats are comfortable with the new bait station, bait shyness may occur. Rats are naturally cautious when it comes to new foods and liquids. As delicious as something may look or smell, rats are extremely hesitant about consuming new food items. Can you blame them? In an effort to keep start-up costs as low as possible while the rats get acquainted with newly placed bait stations, we made SenesTech Control pre-bait available at a greatly reduced price. To recap, SenesTech Control, easily identified by the teal label is a PRE-bait product containing inactive ingredients only. It does not contain 4-Vinylcyclohexene diepoxide (VCD) and Triptolide; therefore, will NOT provide any form of rat population control.

Now, onto the nuances of ContraPest! The Case for ContraPest A quick breakdown of the name itself gives us Contra (contraceptive) and pest; in other words, contraceptive for pests; two specific pests – Norway and roof rats. Formulated with active ingredients, 4-Vinylcyclohexene diepoxide (VCD) and Triptolide, ContraPest comes packaged in a blue label. ContraPest is the rat contraceptive product that you should consistently deploy to effectively manage Norway and roof rat populations. Which Comes First, ContraPest or Control? This is an important question, but one that is specific to each PMP, client, and end-user. It helps to consider how well you understand rat behavior on site. For example, do you know the most active foraging locations for the rats on the property? If you feel very confident that you can identify, almost without question, where the rats prefer to eat, you can probably skip SenesTech Control. Regardless of how comfortable you feel analyzing rat behavior, it’s always beneficial to use SenesTech Control for pre-bait purposes, at least during the first month. Specifically, it may be beneficial to use the Control Pre-bait until you see consumption of the liquid.
As soon as you do observe consumption, we recommend that you change the SenesTech Control tanks to ContraPest so you can begin to actually manage the rat population with the active ingredients. Other considerations worth noting include: Do you have a well-established colony (or colonies) of rats?? Does your location include delectable items such as pet food or animal feed? If so, you may want to consider placing incentive foods into the bait station. However, do not mix incentive food items with the ContraPest or SenesTech Control. Do place incentive food items inside the bait station and near the known pathways. This will entice the rats to explore the bait stations because there is less bait shyness and typically only neophobia. While the rats are munching on their favorite foods they are often attracted by the fatty smell of Control and/or ContraPest. Once the rats take a sip, they simply cannot resist going back for more. We hope this helped clear the air on the differences between ContraPest and SenesTech Control. However, if you still have questions or want to learn more, we invite you to download one of our technical guides or reach out to one of our sales experts.

2020: The Year of the Rat and ContraPest to the rescue The Rat Symbolizes Strong Vitality In Chinese culture, rats were seen as a sign of wealth and overabundance. The Rat has a strong reproductive capacity with a high survival rate, and about 5,000 decendants from one female in a year. The other reason is the Rat’s robust fertility.
