Working for Seniors We live in one of the most desirable places on Earth - and you have had a hand in making it that way. You have raised families, contributed to our strong local economy and continue to share your deep wealth of experience and wisdom. You have our deepest appreciation and gratitude. We believe you deserve to be well taken care of - and our government is helping. B.C. is the only province in Canada to have a seniors advocate speaking up for the needs of our province's growing seniors population. As the MLAs representing Kamloops and surrounding area, we路re proud to support this publication. Budget 2016 included improvements to Medical Services Plan (MSP) assistance that will help seniors with the cost of living. THANK YOU VOLUNTEERS!
This year’s Seniors Symposium was made possible by the dedication, enthusiasm and participation of a wonderful group of volunteers. The Symposium Planning Committee met every week in the months prior to create an event that would be informative and interactive for all those attending. Many other volunteers will be joining us for the event to ensure attendees, speakers, dignitaries and trade show exhibitors get the most out of the day. The Symposium is just one piece in a long list of programs and services offered by Oncore Seniors Society and the Centre for Seniors Information that depend on volunteers. We would like to take this opportunity to say a heartfelt “Thank You” to all of the volunteers that help to improve the lives of seniors in our community!
SYMPOSIUM SPONSORSHIP This year it is our goal to make the Symposium accessible to all seniors in our community, particularly those who may find it difficult to attend due to income constraints. We are asking individuals, local businesses and agencies to help by sponsoring registration of $20 per senior for this years event. For more information on how you can sponsor a senior contact Oncore Seniors Society at 250-828-0600. Thank you to these sponsors for their contributions

Kamloops’ Premier Periodontal
Implant Specialist Dr. Preety Desai
A healthy and fully dentate mouth is able to SMILE for you, CHEW salads and meats for you; but also improves your digestion and increases your longevity with the variety of foods you can ingest and digest. This most importantly maintains your dignity! Maturing in actual “years” does not mean your body nor your mouth ages at the same rate! Researchers have shown that the healthier your mouth is and the more teeth you keep in your head the better you stave off Alzheimer’s, dementia, Parkinson’s disease but also heart disease and cancer. Researchers have identified that Alzheimer’s disease which is classified as “inflammation of the brain” can be tracked back to oral bacteria, herpes viruses or oral yeasts causing periodontal disease. These microbes find their way through the blood-brain barrier and Dr. Olsen at the University of Oslo has published on this. Once you know this, the motivation to go to the periodontist, who knows MORE about gums and gum disease better than any other dentist, should be a natural choice for you. Even if you have lost some or all of your teeth..... maintaining your oral health even with dentures is key to your overall health. With dentures, the risk of candida infections is high and thus removing your dentures at night is a MUST. If the lack of chewing or taste is an issue, you might want to consider a simple cheap conversion to an implant supported denture with your own dentures for better chewing function. If you have lost some of your teeth, maintaining what is remaining is also critical compared to the old days when you just called it quits on your remaining teeth and got full dentures. Research shows you live longer, better and happier with even SOME of your own teeth in your head. And finally the more teeth you have: maintaining them means you have the best quality of life all round. See the periodontist to ensure that you are privy to the latest laser technology to keep your OWN teeth smiling. This is still the best bang for your buck!
