When you choose Bonner Community Hospice, a service of Bonner General Hospital, you and your loved ones receive care from the ONLY local, not-for-profit hospice in the area. Bonner Community Hospice understands the uniqueness of each individual, while maintaining a reverence for life. Hospice care directs itself to the whole person and supports each person’s right to dignity, hope & the highest quality of life in the final days of life. We provide comprehensive, personalized care for patients and their families before and during this transitional time, and support for families after. Patients are eligible for hospice care if they are a resident of Bonner or Boundary counties, have a limited life expectancy, and their physician feels that their life could end in 6 months or less if the disease and/or illness was to follow its natural course. Hospice services are covered by Medicare, Medicaid, & most private insurance plans.

APARTMENT 4CHECKLIST

When choosing an apartment you have features to consider before moving into your future home. The list below points out items you may want to consider in choosing your apartment. Location: Location is more than just picking the city, state or area in town. Take some time to check out the neighborhood. What can’t you live without? How far is too far when you want to drive to the store, airport, etc. Activities: Many places will have at least a few of the following available: basketball court, swimming pool, gym, tennis courts, walking trail, picnic areas and pet areas. Appliances: Which appliances do you require? Some older buildings might not come with the basics, whereas others will have everything you need. You must decide which appliances are important to you: washer & dryer (or just a hookup), microwave, dishwasher, oven/stove, garbage disposal, etc. Bathrooms: How many bathrooms do you require? Do you need a tub in every one, or can you get by with shower stalls? Don’t forget to turn on the shower to check water pressure. Cable or Dish: Many complexes will include some sort of cable package, but if you need every channel there is, do your research. Some apartments might not let you put up a dish, so keep that in mind if you’re using something like DirecTV or Dish Network. Ceiling Fans: This may not be important to some, but others want a fan in every room. Fireplace: Some apartments come with fireplaces, either gas or wood, but many don’t. Unlike a house, you can’t add one later if you decide you can’t live without it. Garbage Disposal: In most complexes, you’ll take your trash out to a dumpster. Nobody wants to walk their trash a few blocks to the dumpster, but if it’s right outside your door, it can be a source of excessive noise and unpleasant odor. Internet: Anywhere there’s a phone line, dial-up should be an option, but keep in mind that there are still a few areas without high-speed internet access. Most areas should have at least one of the popular broadband choices, DSL or cable, but it’s still a good idea to check in advance. Ask about a WiFi provided service as well. If speed is important be sure to compare DSL with cable. Kitchen Space: If you eat out 3 times a day, this probably isn’t a big deal; however, some kitchens seriously lack counter and cabinet space, which many would find unacceptable. Living Space: It’s better to have too much than too little. If you go too small, you’ll either be living with clutter, or spending extra money to put some of your belongings into storage. Mailboxes: Most places will have a mailbox area where people go to get their mail. It’s convenient when it’s time to check mail, but it can be hectic if it becomes a high-traffic area. Parking: Don’t overlook parking space, especially if you have more than one vehicle. If you check during the day, there could be plenty of available parking spaces, but how about at night when everyone is home from work? Pets: Many rentals will have strict policies when it comes to pets. Some might not allow them at all, while others might just require an additional security deposit. In some cases, the deposit can be pretty high and may not be refundable. Ask plenty of questions if you’re unsure. Keep in mind that even when pets are allowed, a big dog that growls or barks are a problem. Renter’s Insurance: Even if the landlord doesn’t require renter’s insurance, it’s usually pretty cheap and worth having. Storage: Many apartments will at least have a small storage closet, usually accessed from the porch or balcony. Some offer storage buildings for an additional fee. Those that require a lot of storage should make sure there’s a storage facility nearby; and be sure to check their prices, as they can vary quite a bit in some areas. Water Beds: If you have a water bed, make sure they are allowed before moving it in. Not all complexes allow them, and some that do, may limit them to the bottom floor. Don’t be surprised if you’re required to take out additional insurance.

COTTAGES 4CHECKLIST

If you are looking to live in a retirement cottage the following questions can give you some insights into selecting a cottage and examining the facilities of the retirement community it is adjacent to. LOCATION Is the cottage’s immediate area attractive? Does the cottage provide easy access to recreational opportunities (parks, beaches, golf courses, etc.)? Is the cottage convenient to shopping? Is the cottage convenient to medical centers, places of worship and other services? Is the cottage convenient to cultural attractions (museums, theaters, concert halls, historic sites, etc.)? Is the cottage convenient to transportation (public transportation, airports, highways, etc.?

Can you participate in the scheduled activities in the retirement community if you live in a cottage? Does the retirement community offer a resident council for cottage owners that acts as a liaison? Does the complex offer cottage residents access to a continuum of care if necessary in the future? Were other cottage residents willing to talk and share their perspectives with you? Do other cottage residents seem to be people with interests similar to yours? Do you get a strong sense of quality and attention to detail throughout the retirement community? If you have an injury or illness that results in pain or a loss of mobility your doctor may refer you to physical therapy. To find a physical therapist you can check online, in the phone book, or your doctor may have suggestions as to which physical therapist may be right for your specific condition. Here are essential questions to ask before deciding on a physical therapist to help you make an informed decision. QUESTIONS TO ASK YOUR PHYSICAL THERAPIST Do you commonly treat my condition? How can physical therapy help me? Will physical therapy be painful? What do you expect from me? How many times a week must I come to get results? How long does each session last? Can I do any exercises at home?

Do you accept my insurance? It may sound like a simple question, but so many patients attend physical therapy without knowing about their insurance coverage. Before attending physical therapy, make sure that your therapist accepts your insurance. You can save a big headache and perhaps a big out-of-pocket expense. What is your cancellation or no show policy? Some physical therapy clinics charge their patients a fee if an appointment is cancelled without appropriate notice, usually 24 hours ahead of time. If you fail to show up for an appointment, you may be charged a fee. By understanding your therapist’s policy you may be able to avoid extra fees during your rehabilitation. Do you specialize in treating my condition? Many physical therapists are board certified clinical specialists. This means that they have passed rigorous tests and have spent many documented hours treating a specific condition or population. Knee or hip pain may be best treated by an orthopedic specialist. If you are older, a geriatric clinical specialist may be best to treat your specific condition. How many patients do you see at one time? Some physical therapists choose to spend time with only one patient for each appointment, while others may treat two or three patients at one time. While there is no specific evidence that points to one practice policy being superior to another, if you feel you may need more individualized attention, be sure to choose a physical therapist that only treats one patient at a time. Will I see the same physical therapist for each appointment or a different one each time? Some clinics schedlue patients with the same therapist for each appointment. This can help you develop a therapeutic relationship that may be best for your situation. Other clinics may schedule appointments with the first available therapist, and you may see many different therapists during your treatment program. This may allow you to experience different treatment strategies for your condition. If you would prefer the same therapist for each visit be sure to request that you do. Will my care be provided by a physical therapist assistant or a therapy aide? Assistants are licensed professionals who are able to assist physical therapists in providing your care. They are qualified to carry out the treatment plan that you and your therapist develop. Aides help therapists by preparing treatment areas and preparing equipment that may be used during your treatment. They may also help patients move from the waiting area to the treatment areas.
