How a Purple Flag Came to Symbolize Excellence in Memory Care
Purple Flag for Dementia Care™, a highly respected dementia care accreditation program for senior living communities, longterm care facilities, home care agencies and other providers, will expand from 11 to more than 30 communities in Connecticut, Massachusetts and New Hampshire by the end of 2023.
Purple Flag communities undergo a meticulous audit and meet 60 practice standards across ten content areas. They attest to statements of quality outlined in the Alzheimer’s Association Dementia Care Practice Recommendations, and their residents receive the highest level of attention to physical, emotional, spiritual and cognitive well-being.
Established through a collaboration between the Connecticut Assisted Living Association (CALA) and the Institute for Senior Living Education (ISLE), the Purple Flag standards provide a quality framework for making a difference in residents’ lives.
“This accelerated growth is a welcome validation of Purple Flag’s effectiveness at helping communities deliver the highest quality dementia care,” said Christopher Carter, President of Connecticut Assisted Living Association. “We’re hearing incred- ible, heartwarming stories from communities about how the elevated care is making a difference while instilling pride in caregiver teams.” n Bridges by EPOCH at Norwalk n Bridges by EPOCH at Trumbull n Compass on the Bay n Farmington Station Senior Living n Maplewood at Stony Hill n Masonicare at Ashlar Village n Masonicare at Mystic n McLean Life Plan Community n Ridgefield Station n The Greens at Greenwich n Waterstone on High Ridge

“Purple Flag offers communities a way to brand themselves as being committed to excellence,” added Carter. “It also offers an effective, data-driven performance advancement toolkit, paving the way for setting the gold standard in memory care.”
