In2024, the fight against elder abuse remains a pressing concern in Texas, echoing a nationwide effort to protect our aging population. Understanding the signs and knowing how to report elder abuse is crucial to safeguarding the wellbeing of our senior citizens.

Understanding Elder Abuse:

Elder abuse takes various forms, and identifying its signs is paramount. Whether it's physical, emotional, financial, or neglectful, these acts can occur in private settings, demanding a vigilant community response.

Common signs of elder abuse include unexplained injuries, sudden behavioral changes, social withdrawal, financial irregularities, and subpar living conditions. It is important for friends, family members, caregivers, and community members to stay vigilant and report any suspicions promptly.

Reporting Elder Abuse:

It is crucial to know the appropriate channels for reporting elder abuse to ensure the safety and protection of vulnerable adults in Texas.

Attorney General's Medicaid Fraud Control Unit:

For victims residing in long-term care facilities receiving Medicaid funding, report criminal abuse, neglect, or exploitation to the Attorney General's Medicaid Fraud Control Unit at (800) 252-8011. This proactive approach addresses systemic issues within Medicaid-funded facilities.

Adult Protective Services (APS):
