There are very few times in our lives where we fail to plan for the future.
Before we are born our supplies and living arrangements are planned and the joyous event takes place, we are born. . From infancy all our steps are arranged. From there, we continue forward with schooling, coming of age and careers. As we grow, we continue to plan for our futures and eventually retirement. It is in this latter planning where sometimes plans are not as strong as they once were or could
have been.
Life is unpredictable as we all know and in some cases a health care crisis can change the entire tone of our futures we have planned. I can provide Home and Health Financial Planning before, during and after this crisis to make a difference. Make your appointment today! ~

Medicare 2023 “In A Nutshell” (Parts A, B & Medigap Plans)
Original Medicare is a government health insurance program primarily for people age 65 and older. It has four main parts: A, B, C & D. The chart below is an example of how Parts A & B work together with a traditional Medicare supplement also known as a “Medigap Plan.”
Medicare Part A Hospital Insurance
Generally no cost (If you paid Medicare taxes while working)
$1,600 deductible (per benefit period)
It is possible to pay the $1600 deductible and other daily charges for multiple stays & extended care.
Plan covers: Inpatient hospital care, home health care services, hospice, inpatient skilled nursing & more.
Providers are paid by Medicare assignment.
No coverage outside USA. No out-of-pocket maximum.
Many people add a Medigap plan, Part D or an Advantage Plan (Part C) to fill the “gaps” in the coverage.
Medicare Part B Medical Insurance
Most people pay monthly $164.90 (Premium could be higher based on income)
$226 annual deductible. (this can increase each year)
80/20 after deductible.
Plan covers: health care providers, ambulance, emergency care, outpatient surgical, wellness & other Medicare approved benefits
Most doctors accept Medicare.
No coverage outside the USA. No out-of-pocket maximum.
Many people add a Medigap plan, Part D or an Advantage Plan (Part C) to fill the “gaps” in the coverage.
Supplemental Policy Plans A - N Medigap
Premium varies by company, age, location & other factors.
Guarantee Issue at initial enrollment (Other special enrollment periods may be avalable)
These plans generally pay the 20% not covered by Part B & other Medicare eligible benefits
When this coordinates with Medicare, many benefits are 100% covered
Can provide benefits outside USA
Plans are available through insurance companies.
Important to add Part D plan to cover prescription drugs & avoid penalties.
Must have Part A & B to enroll.
There is NO additional cost to use the services of a full time insurance professional. Please call us or a broker in your local area for additional assistance.

How to Reduce the Number of Medicare Robo Calls
Many Medicare-eligible people report getting a high number of Medicare calls. Robocalls now make up 50% of all calls placed in the United States!
Unfortunately, many of these calls are scams designed to obtain personal information, sales calls from telemarketers hired for lead generation, or agents trying to sell seniors a different plan.
There are a lot of ways you can help reduce these calls.
The first thing to do is add your telephone number to the Do Not Call Registry. To do so, call (888) 382-1222. Be sure to call from the telephone number you want to add to the list. Make sure to register your landline and cell phone number.
You can also install call blocking apps on your cell phone or VOIP phone lines. Many new cell phones have built in spam and robo call protection.
Next, if you receive calls misleading or fraudulent calls or calls about Medicare Advantage or Prescription Drug plans and you did not initiate the call, you can report it to Medicare. Call 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227). TTY
users can call 1-877-486-2048. The most impactful thing you can do is to stop making calling seniors profitable by not participating. Do not give out personal information and do not make plan changes by phone unless you chose to call that business directly. If seniors push back and refuse to purchase plans sold by telemarketers, the calls will begin to go away. Remember how powerful the 65+ demographic is. Right now, 11,000 people a day are turning 65 and there are already 56 million age 65+ seniors in the United States today. You have the power to demand respectful and ethical marketing for seniors.
There are legitimate, face to face, local agents that would happily meet you at their office or your home to help you make plan changes. Most importantly you can easily locate that agent should something with your plan change not be correct. For more information go to www.aismedicareandmore.com ~

Finding Your Home Away From Home
The lives of our family, and in particular our mother (Josephine Giarratano), have been touched and impacted by the health care industry and the people that tirelessly toil in this profession.
That being said, as we reflect on the experiences of the past two years, we would like to express our gratitude to The Center at Park West. My mother has had the opportunity to literally rehabilitate 6-7 times over the course of that time period. She considers this facility and the people that have worked with her a “home away from home”, and we agree.
The doctors, nurses, therapy staff, and support personnel individually and collectively have had a direct impact on returning my mother to a quality of life and living each time. We have been impressed by the genuine commitment to services, the day to day care, and the passion and professionalism that encompasses this care.
When our family, including my mother, began the process of investigating care/rehab facilities, our number one concern and priority was safety and quality of care, in order to facilitate and enhance my mother’s quality of life. TEAMWORK is extremely important to our family, and we can attest that the philosophy of the Center champions and embodies TEAMWORK. The environment is SAFE-EFFECTIVE-EFFICIENT and
has a number of care providers in multiple areas of the facility. Patient engagement and satisfaction foster a trust and the ability to speak freely and openly to staff (a BIG plus for us), education during the pandemic and access was unfailing, and empathy was paramount for both immediate family and friends.
Facility and Staff will be the biggest plus when doing your research. I empower those individuals and family members seeking a “home away from home” to reach out if you so choose and I will gladly address anything you may want to know or questions you may carry – I will leave my contact information with the facility.
Josephine’s comments from her stays:
“I was treated with care and respect by nurses, CNAs, Physical and Occupational Therapy members”, “enjoyed having my own room and that is was always clean”, helped me when I needed help”, “when I had appointments they took me to and from promptly“, “breakfast, lunch and dinner were healthy and served timely” and “OT and PT staff were wonderful, helped me get better and out of the hospital and home each time”. ~

A Labyrinth of Long-Term Care Choices
Need information for an aging relative or yourself but don’t know where to start? The goal of the ADRC (Aging & Disability Resources for Colorado) program is to empower individuals to effectively navigate their health and other long-term support options through free, unbiased assistance.
Sometimes referred to as “one stop shops” or “no wrong door” systems, ADRCs address many of the frustrations consumers and their families experience when trying to find needed information, services, and supports. Through coordination of existing aging and disability service systems, ADRC programs raise visibility about the range of options that are available, provide objective information, advice, counseling and assistance. Empowering people to make informed decisions about their long term supports, and help people more easily access public and private services. The ADRC program is available to people age 60 and over and any age with a disability that have long-term care needs.

HEALTH
Hospice care exists to afford families the opportunity to spend their final moments surrounded by those closest to them, regardless of circumstances.
Sangre Provides Compassionate Care to Patients and Their Families
They transferred to Sangre because we have nurses and CNAs who provide care even during the holidays.
Focusing on quality and comfort when more conventional treatments become burdensome is equally hard. Hospice and Palliative care have shown to enhance the quality of life and help in maintaining the integrity of patients and their families in need of supportive or end-of-life services by offering them symptom management support, comfort, and compassion.
“You all are doing God’s work,” a patient recently told one of Sangre de Cristo Community Care’s chaplains when she stopped by to visit with him and his family.
He requested a chaplain after his wife’s health started to decline. The family was of strong faith, and the husband admitted he hadn’t been to church in a while because he had had a stroke and was unable to attend. Both he and his wife were ailing, lying in hospital beds next to each other. Their son, who also lived with them, had his own medical challenges.
It was the holidays, and the family was on services with a different company. They needed 24/7 care, circumstances beyond their control.
Many patients have come to an end-stage of their disease: they have chronic health problems that aren’t going to go away and will bring further deterioration to the body and or mind.
Hospice care focuses on all aspects of a patient’s life and well-being. Physical, social, emotional, and spiritual services are provided in developing a care plan tailored to the patients’ individual needs. Emotional and spiritual support is also offered to the patients’ loved ones as well, including grief support. ~

Hospice Care Definitions
requires a constant presence by a nurse or care team.
24/7 ADMISSIONS – If a patient qualifies for hospice care, they should be admitted as early as the family requests. Many agencies admit patients to hospice,24/7, evenings weekends, and holidays.

they love. When your loved one passes, you may go through a period of bereavement and experience grief. Many provide Grief Groups that meet and address issues of grief in a supportive group setting.
INDIGENT PATIENTS – Does the hospice accept non funded or indigent patients? This is usually on a case by case basis and at the determination of the hospice company. Many have a non-profit organization that can help support the care of non-covered patients.
IN-PATIENT CARE – These hospices offer full hospice services in their on-campus unit or building. The patient moves into the in-

patient care facility to receive their hospice services rather than in the patients’ home setting.
LICENSED MASSAGE THERAPY –
Used as a method for relaxation to alleviate stress, anxiety and pain with a light hands-on approach, as well as providing an alternative to those who can’t take medication or prefer not to, massage therapy has become essential in hospice care. This is not reimbursed by Medicare.
MUSIC THERAPY – Music Therapy
is an established healthcare profession that uses music to address physical, emotional, cognitive, and social needs of individuals”. A music therapist creates goals and objectives for their patients and uses music activities and music experiences (listening, composition, improvisation, or playing/singing a familiar song) in order to achieve those goals. This is not reimbursed by Medicare.
PAIN PUMPS AVAILABLE – Many patients have their symptoms controlled through oral medications. Some situations require a pain pump where medications are administered through an IV pump. If this is the situation, inquire with the hospice RN case manager to see if pain pumps are available through their agency.
PALLIATIVE CARE – Specialized medical care for people with serious illness. It is focused on providing patients with relief from the symptoms, pain and stress of a serious
illness – whatever the prognosis. It is appropriate at any age and at any stage in a serious illness and can be provided along with curative treatment.
PCP-OVERSIGHT – Can the hospice patient retain their own primary care physician in addition to the hospice medical director? All hospice organizations require a medical director, a physician to oversee their care. Many times the hospice medical director will work in conjunction with the patient’s own physician. The patient, family and hospice team can determine which physicians will oversee the care and certify the hospice eligibility criteria.
PET THERAPY – There’s nothing like a visit from a four-legged creature to brighten the day of a terminally ill patient. Pet therapy teams visit with patients wherever they reside – at home or in professional care settings. Studies have shown many benefits of pet companionship, ranging from reduced blood pressure and anxiety to relief from boredom, pain and loneliness. This service is not reimbursed by Medicare.
VA CONTRACT – If the patient is not a Medicare Recipient and is covered by the VA, the VA will make payments directly to their contracted agencies. If a patient is a Veteran, but is a Medicare Recipient, they may choose any Medicare approved hospice agency for their care. ~
