Sense holidays Summer 2015

Amazing holidays for deafblind people

Getting it right for you

Welcome to the 2015 Sense Holidays Brochure

This year, we have 22 exciting holidays on offer. Whatever your interests, we have something to suit you. • Take care of a horse, learn to ride and do tricks • Travel along the Grand Union canal on a canal boat • Experience the buzz of the big city • And much more Our new, improved brochure gives you all the information you need to choose your perfect holiday.

We have over 40 years’ experience running holidays for deafblind people

We provide holidays for people with very diverse abilities and needs, including sensory impairments, physical and cognitive impairments, complex medical needs, lifelimiting conditions, autism and related communication difficulties. We specialise in supporting people with multiple complex needs.

Applications We accept applications from people with dualsensory impairments. Occasionally, we can offer a place to someone with a single-sensory impairment and additional disability. Our holidays are very popular and people with a dual-sensory impairment will have priority. In the adult range, priority will be given to those living at home with their families. To apply, please complete our application form and return it to us by Friday 13 February 2015. After this date, any applications we receive will be offered a place on our waiting list. We keep emergency spaces available for short-notice placements.

Holidaymakers are supported by trained and experienced holiday leaders and volunteers

Each holiday is managed by one or more experienced leaders, supported by a team of volunteers. The ratio of holidaymaker to volunteer is at least one-to-one. Our personalised approach to planning holidays means that we can support people to do what they want to do – however simple or complex this seems.

“We specialise in supporting people with multiple complex needs.” We want to provide the right holiday for you and will try our best to offer you one of your three choices. However, this may not always be possible. For this reason, we find out about your needs, abilities and interests. This helps us to find you a suitable alternative. Depending on the number of applications, the holidays – as advertised here – may change slightly.

First time away from home? We can send daily updates to your family

We have marked the venues as either wheelchair accessible or easy walker. The wheelchair accessible icon means the venue has been adapted for someone who is a wheelchair user. However, the level of access varies from purpose-built accommodation to venues that offer minor adaptations such as wider doorways and ramps. All easy walker venues have at least one downstairs bedroom and may be suitable for occasional wheelchair users. This brochure gives you an idea of the age group of each holiday. Children’s holidays are for holidaymakers up to age 11. Young people’s holidays are for people aged 11 to 18. Young adults’ holidays are for people aged between 16 and 25. Adults’ holidays are for people aged 19 and above. However, these age ranges are flexible.
