The month of January is named for the two-faced

Roman god, Janus. The only one of Rome’s deities without a Greek counterpart, Janus has the ability to look back into the past and ahead into the future at the same time. He’s the god of endings and new beginnings, of births, funerals, marriages, and of transitions both personal and symbolic. He is the ruler of gates, doorways, and opportunities. In ancient Rome, Janus was especially important on New Year’s Day, when people often gave friends and loved ones coins with the god’s face on them as a way of wishing each other good fortune in the coming year. I think the Romans were on to something. Millennia later, January still invites us to look backward and forward simultaneously. Many of us will be relieved that particular events are well behind us; we also look forward to new opportunities and adventures. New Year’s Eve celebrations grant us permission to put the past behind us and start the year with a clean slate. This new year marks the beginning of recreational cannabis sales in Vermont and Connecticut, with accompanying jobs, opportunities for entrepreneurs, expanded medical and scientific research, and more programs to help people adversely affected by drug laws. At Sensi, these new beginnings bring us the opportunity to connect readers with more people, places, and events in New England’s cannabis industry. I’m looking forward to seeing the innovations of 2022 and how they will contribute to our collective well-being. If you’re looking for something to do in the meantime, check out this issue’s local content section. There you’ll find things to do around New England, tasty cannabis-infused treats, and shopping and gift ideas. You’ll discover a Portland, Maine, dispensary recently named one of the nation’s most stylish by Architectural Digest, and be introduced to a few of our region’s cannabis industry influencers.
