Heck, impress only yourself. Try making a batch and freezing it in smaller serving-size containers as an easy dinner option on busy weeks. — Kathryn Cannon, Courtesy of Greenstate.com
INGREDIENTS
Supplies: Large stockpot
(5) jalapenos, seed or reduce amount for less heat
(3) serrano peppers, seed or leave out for less heat
(2) green bell peppers
(1) red bell pepper
(1) large yellow onion
(2) cans diced tomatoes
(1) can fire-roasted tomatoes or substitute additional can
diced tomatoes
(2) cans diced green chilies
(1) can whole kernel corn, strained (optional)
(2) cans black beans, strained
(1) can kidney beans, strained
(1) 7 oz. can chipotle peppers with sauce
3 oz. tomato paste or substitute ketchup
2 T. olive oil
2 T. adobo seasoning
2 t. garlic
2 t. salt
1 t. cumin
½ oz. cannabis tincture (see note)
INSTRUCTIONS
• Chop vegetables coarsely and set aside. Pro-tip: when chopping spicy peppers, wear gloves.
• Place large pot on stovetop over medium-high heat
• Toss in chopped vegetables to brown slightly in olive oil
• Reduce heat to medium
• Add spices, adobo, cumin, garlic, salt
• Add tomato paste or ketchup to pot
• Remove chipotle peppers from can and diced
• Add diced chipotle peppers and remaining sauce into the pot
• Add cans of tomatoes and chilies
• Drain and add cans of corn and beans
• Stir ingredients and let simmer on the stovetop for hours allowing all the vegetables to dissolve into each other creating a beautiful melding of flavors. Stir occasionally during this process to prevent sticking to the bottom of the pan.
• The chili is done when it looks done to you, approximately 2-3 hours
• Just before the chili is done, add the cannabis tincture
• Simmer for an additional 20 mins, stirring occasionally
• Serves 10-12
Note: Tincture potency varies greatly. For a milder experience, reduce the amount of tincture or try a CBD dominant tincture. Read the label for number of milligrams per ounce of tincture and use an amount that works for you and your guests. Using a half ounce of tincture may be too much, or not enough. Use your best judgement, and always ask your guests what they are used to consuming.
CANNABIS CHILI TOPPINGS, OPTIONAL:
• (1) medium onion, white or yellow, diced
• Shredded cheddar, Swiss cheese, or other preferred cheese
• Sour cream
• Saltines or crusty bread
Unplug and Float Your Way to Bliss
Floatation therapy is an anti-gravity experience that can detox your body and mind.
TEXT CHARLEY ROSE
The pure bliss of effortless peace. That is what float tanks are—a wonderful new technology that offers the darkness and quiet that humans crave in a highly stimulating world. Between the lovely anti-gravity sensation and the detoxifying effects of the Epsom salt, floating is the perfect way to unplug from the world and plug into something special—yourself.
In this high-output, high-stress world, people always look for innovative ways to kick back and relax. Float tanks offer an anti-sensory experience to counter the overstimulation that so many people struggle with.
What are Float Tanks?
Float tanks are part of a trend called biohack-
ing, which is a way of improving health by hacking your own physiology using a scientific approach. There are many ways to biohack your wellness routine. No, float tanks and other biohacking techniques aren’t some magical solutions that will solve all your health problems. However, using them can be a great addition to a wellness-focused lifestyle that will help you decrease stress and anxiety and positively affect your physical and mental health.
A float tank is basically just a pool filled with salt water—1,100 pounds of salt, to be exact. The salt creates buoyancy, so the human body floats perfectly on the water’s surface with zero effort. It gives a peculiar sense of
anti-gravity. The results: next-level relaxation.
Float tanks are also called sensory deprivation tanks, as they are generally characterized by a complete lack of sensory stimulation. Float therapy can be done in total darkness and silence, which isn’t a strict requirement for the experience, but does provide its own benefits.
Benefits of Floating
Floating offers a multitude of health benefits, both mental and physiological. One of the primary payoffs of floating comes directly from the salt used to create buoyancy—Epsom salt. Epsom salt is a mineral compound that contains magnesium, which can be absorbed in the body through the skin.
Nearly half of the U.S. population is deficient in the mineral, so you might need some magnesium. Increasing magnesium levels can help you relax, sleep better, and improve digestion.
Other perceived benefits of floating have not been significantly researched, but several small studies suggest that floating can decrease stress and anxiety and improve sleep quality.
What to Expect
Float tanks are making a splash in the world of next-gen biohacking technology. But don’t worry; little splashing is involved in this serene and rejuvenating experience.
Most float tank spas are similar. You’ll be
greeted by friendly staff and led down a long hallway to your private room. Before starting your float, you’ll be asked to rinse off in a luxurious rain-style shower. Then, it’s time to get floating.
The float tank rooms are kept at a comfortable lukewarm temperature, with lights off for a full-sensory deprivation experience. There are three types of float tanks: pods, pools, and
cabins. None is better than the other, but you may have a personal preference. The most common are large egg-shaped pods that look like something you’d see in a sci-fi film
where CIA-funded scientists are conducting remote-viewing experiments. (Fun fact: sensory deprivation tanks were initially created by neuroscientists as a research tool in the 1950s.)
Despite their strange look and history, these pods are quite relaxing. It feels like you’re nestled in a cozy cocoon, communing with God. The pod also allows you to select your sound experience—silence, sounds of nature, or guided meditation.
If enclosed spaces don’t induce feelings of relaxation, don’t worry. Many float spas offer pool-style float tanks that resemble large hot tubs. There isn’t much
difference between the pods and pools, except you won’t be able to change your sound choice during the float if you choose the open concept. Cabins are like the pool-style float tanks but have walls around the tub and a glass door to enter.
Once you start your float, let yourself go. Enjoy the weightlessness of your body and let your thoughts roam. Many people are intimidated by the thought of being alone with their thoughts. But, as Moss from IMR Float Spa in Las Vegas puts it, “You can hear yourself without the chaos of the world.”
Sensory deprivation won’t force you to face anything that you aren’t already dealing with. It will simply allow you the time and space to step away from outside noise, resolve anything you are struggling with in your mind, and fi nally enter a state of rest.
“To get the most out of your float experience, come with an open mind,” says Gaby Valencia, owner of Cloud 9 Float + Spa in Folsom, California. “There is no need to be afraid or nervous. Float therapy can help you relax, disconnect, and recharge. It’s an experience for your mind, body, and soul.”
Tips for a Great Float
Make sure to wipe o your face with the provided washcloth after you shower and before you start your oat. Trust me, you don’t want annoying drops of water tickling your face while oating. Practice some breathwork while you are oating. Structured breathing techniques have several health bene ts, including aligning your nervous system to reduce stress and improve bodily functions. The easiest way to use your breath for a positive experience is “slow breathing” where you breathe in through your nose for ve counts, then out for ve.
Feeling extra adventurous? Take a cannabis edible 2030 minutes before your oat. It will enhance your journey through your mind into a state of peace and bliss.

Three people share how psychedelics help them heal and strengthen their family relationships. TEXT JAMIE BLAZQUEZ
From the start, my relationship with my father was riddled with tension and conflict. As a Catholic Italian from the Bronx, shaped by the raw and resilient streets of 1950s New York, he contrasted sharply with me—a deeply sensitive empath, attuned to the emotions of those around me.
Our bond, built on humor, adventure, and shared curiosity, was a source of connection and a battleground. While his brilliance and my inquisitive nature often sparked meaningful exchanges, navigating his emotional turbulence felt like walking a tightrope.
My father’s diagnosis of bipolar disorder during my middle school years can explain much of the emotional highs and lows we endured. Medication helped to stabilize him, yet the side effects and ongoing struggles with his condition remained. As my father’s emotions became consistent over time, I allowed myself to be more vulnerable, shedding the armor I had built to protect myself.
However, the peace was shortlived. A decade later, when he stopped taking his medication, the tensions between us reached a boiling point. After a fiery argument, we entered a period of painful and prolonged silence that lasted years.
It wasn’t until a few years into our estrangement that I discovered the transformative power of plant medicine. Microdosing with psilocybin and lion’s mane mushrooms allowed me to view our relationship from a new perspective, transforming my understanding of the past. I began to see the value in the pain and challenges we had experienced.
Determined to rebuild our relationship, I approached him with a renewed mindset. I suggested counseling, and he agreed. It was a process that required bravery and dedication from both of us. I began to cultivate deeper empathy and understanding. We progressed so rapidly that we even took a 10-day cruise together to witness the solar eclipse—a symbol of our journey from darkness into light.
I continued healing through a four-day retreat where I participated in temazcal, hapè, changa, and three Bufo ceremonies. The experiences deepened my empa-
thy and helped me understand my father from a place of compassion rather than judgment. I learned to navigate our interactions with a newfound sense of clarity and listening skills. I now approach his harsh words calmly, recognizing them as mere expressions rather than personal attacks. My communication has evolved, allowing us to interact more peacefully and find common ground.
Psychedelics gave me the tools to reconnect with my father, and many others have used them in similar ways to heal and strengthen their relationships—whether by deepening empathy in their marriages or repairing family bonds after trauma.
JOIN IN MARRIAGE
Adrienne Smith’s journey with psychedelics was initially cautious and skeptical. It wasn’t until a modest encounter with mushroom chocolate during a Hawaii trip that she began to reconsider. Her expectations weren’t met initially, but this experience began a deeper exploration into plant medicine.
The turning point came at a peyote ceremony during a spiritual retreat. Adrienne had anticipated vivid, almost cinematic experiences but found instead a profound inner quietness. This unexpected calm was a revelation, giving her a new lens through which to view her life and relationships.
Adrienne’s newfound peace was particularly transformative in her marriage. Her husband had long battled severe depressive episodes,
which had previously left Adrienne feeling frustrated and at a loss. She often questioned whether she was doing something wrong, internalizing his struggles as a reflection of their relationship.
However, psychedelics offered Adrienne a different perspective. She began to see her husband’s depression not as a personal failing but as a separate challenge he was facing. “I used to think, ‘Am I doing something wrong?’” says Adrienne. “Now, I understand that his emotional state doesn’t reflect me or our relationship.” This shift was liberating, allowing her to offer support without the burden of self-blame.
A vivid example of this change unfolded during a particularly challenging period. Instead of becoming frustrated or withdrawing, Adri-
enne approached her husband with newfound patience and empathy. She learned to respond to his mood swings with compassion rather than defensiveness. This shift in approach was a direct result of her psychedelic experiences, which had taught her to separate his depression from her sense of self-worth.
The transformation has extended to how they approach life as husband and wife. Together, they began to question the societal expectations around gift-giving and traditions during the holidays. Focusing on what truly mattered to them as a couple, they navigate the holidays with less stress and more connection. “We can have a conversation more realistically about what the holidays are actually for versus what the world says they’re for,” says Adrienne.
Buds In Banking
A MOTHER’S LOVE
In 2020, Lorri Lambert Smith’s life took an unexpected turn when she was introduced to Bufo, a potent psychedelic derived from the venom of the Bufo Alvarius toad. Initially hesitant, Lorri’s curiosity was driven by a deep need for healing. “At first, when I would tell people about it, I would preface it with, ‘I’m not suggesting that you do this,’” she says. “But all these years later, I am more inclined to say, ‘Do it.’”
For Lorri, Bufo wasn’t just an experience, it was a transformative personal experience—it also helped her overcome a lifelong battle with depression. Describing it as “nature’s electroshock therapy,” she explains that the psychedelic brought her into a state of profound alignment with what she calls the “Bufo energy.” This energy led to moments of intense clarity
and overwhelming gratitude. “It’s not just a belief; it’s knowing that there is nothing to fear,” says Lorri. One of the most significant outcomes of Lorri’s Bufo journey was its impact on her family relationships. Her oldest daughter, who had introduced her to Bufo, underwent a remarkable transformation. Once known for her sharp judgment, she became a source of “absolute unconditional love.” Lorri attributes this change to a part of the Bufo ceremony’s prayer, which involves relinquishing judgment of oneself and others.
The true test of Bufo’s influence came when her youngest daughter, Leigh, attempted suicide in 2022. Leigh had overdosed on 13 fentanyl tablets. This traumatic event left the family reeling. Miraculously, despite the severity of the situation, Leigh survived without lasting damage, but the emotional aftermath was overwhelming. Lorri’s previous experiences with Bufo became crucial in navigating this crisis.
“Amid the chaos, I drew upon what Bufo had shown me—that fear is a construct, not an inherent reality,” says Lorri.
This realization became a cornerstone for her approach to the aftermath of Leigh’s attempt. On the one-year anniversary of the suicide attempt, the women in the family participated in a Bufo ceremony. While her youngest daughter couldn’t join due to medication, the family collectively focused their intentions on her and the memory of that day.
“We went through rounds of meditation doses, focusing our intentions on Leigh,” says Lorri. The ceremony helped the family process their grief and trauma together, turning their suffering into a unified act of love, support, and healing.
Bufo not only alleviated Lorri’s depression but also deepened her self-love. “It was a revelation to me that I love who I am,” she says.
For Lorri and her family, Bufo has been more than a healing tool; it has paved the way for a richer, more connected family dynamic. “We got pretty good family dynamics going on,” she says. “It would take quite a bit to come between us or disrupt that love. That’s amazing.”
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
HEISMAN TO HEALING MAN
Former NFL running back and Heisman Trophy winner Ricky Williams now carries the ball for plant medicine and natural healing.
TEXT CAROLYN SCOTT PHOTOS COURTESY OF HIGHSMAN
Ricky Williams has won many accolades in his storied football career: Heisman Trophy winner at the University of Texas, NFL Pro Bowler, and elite 10,000 career rushing yards club member. But since retiring from the gridiron in 2012, Williams, 47, has embraced a new identity: Healing Man.
Today, the famed running back is a dedicated yoga practitioner and teacher, natural medicine advocate, astrology student, and businessman who has launched his own cannabis brand called “Highsman.”
But in many ways, his new ventures and explorations are an extension of his personal philosophy on wellness. Williams has been a longtime supporter of plant medicine and has relied on cannabis and other natural healing modalities to help him navigate through the physical and emotional pain of playing collegiate and professional football.
A DIFFERENT WAY OF THINKING Williams began using cannabis when he was 18, and found the
practice helped him confront the tough decisions he needed to make in his young life.
He recalls one of the first times he tried cannabis: “I lay on the bed, and I just started looking at things differently,” he says. “The next morning, I remembered those different ways and experimented with them. I found optimism. I saw different possibilities that I didn’t realize were there before. I learned things about myself that I needed to know that helped me make choices where my life feels much more fulfilling.”
During his 11-year NFL career, Williams used cannabis for both pleasure and pain relief, but also relied on it as a form of mental therapy. “At night, when I’d come home and smoke a little bit, I couldn’t avoid my feelings,” he says. “I was looking for the core of my anxiety, and when I started smoking, I found it.”
And, though he was suspended more than once for his cannabis use, he was never dissuaded of its healing prowess.
“I FEEL LIKE THE GREATEST SUPPORT THAT I COULD DO FOR THE NFL IS MY LIFE AND THE CHOICES I MAKE.”
— Ricky Williams
“I got in a lot of trouble with the NFL, and I started reading the stories, which basically said I threw my life away for drugs. And I was like, did I really throw everything away? But then I thought, wait a minute, that’s not my story. That’s their story.”
So, Williams embraced the challenge of overcoming negative stories with positive actions, both regarding cannabis and his life choices. While still in the NFL, he studied other natural healing modes that he could use for himself and eventually share with others. With his disciplined running back approach, Williams plowed straight ahead into his adventure of self-discovery. He became a qualified yoga instructor, studied Ayurvedic medicine and Traditional Chinese Medicine, and explored the depths of astrology.
After retiring, Williams was involved with Athletes for Care,
a non-profit organization supporting the mental health and wellness of retired professional athletes including the use of cannabis. “I feel like the greatest support that I could do for the NFL is my life and the choices I make,” he says. “I think that’s the greatest advocacy anyone can do. There are two parts. One, don’t lie about your cannabis consumption. And two, be an example of the way you live your life. Then, you become a testimony.”
A NEW PATH FORWARD
Part of Williams’s journey included launching his own cannabis brand. Highsman’s products reflect the strategy of preparing for and playing a football game, with merchan-
dise categorized as “Pregame,” “Halftime,” and “Postgame.”
“The Highsman name has to do with moving towards normalization,” says Williams. “And if people are talking about indica and sativa, it can be confusing. So, I was thinking, how would I talk to people who are in sports about this? Well, Pregame, you’re getting ready. You want to be up. Postgame, you have so much adrenaline pumping and need something to help relax, calm down, and help the body heal. And then Halftime is like in the middle of the day, or you don’t want to get too up, you don’t want to get too down, you want something to keep you in that right frame of mind.”
Today, Williams’s outlook on plant medicine is grounded in the idea of gaining something good— not avoiding something bad. This philosophy arose from how he approached pain during his playing days, and it’s something everyone may benefit from applying in their daily lives.
“I understand there’s a lot of people in a lot of pain—physical, mental, and emotional—but I don’t think of pain relief, I think of performance,” he says. “It’s not a matter of ‘does it hurt,’ rather it’s about ‘can I perform?’
“So, I would gravitate towards anything that helped me play better. For me, it’s about bringing the best me to the table. And cannabis reduced pain so I could perform better and improved my mental perspectives, which also helped me to perform better.”
The Highsman Winner
Highsman and Ricky Williams connected with Greg Okun, founder of GEO Network, LLC, to establish strategic partnerships. Okun brought Ricky’s brand vision to Seven Clover, a vertically integrated New Mexico company, to produce and distribute Highsman products in New Mexico.
“The Seven Clover team understands the authenticity of Ricky’s story and the Highsman brand,” says Okun. “Ricky has been involved in Highsman’s go-to-market strategies and hand picks every strain sold. Partnering with Seven Clover in New Mexico is a testament to Highsman’s commitment to community and sustainability. New Mexico’s rich cultural heritage, landscape, outdoor activities, and Seven Clover’s dedication to innovation make it a great place for Highsman to thrive.”

Enigma is a bewildering mutation of the P. cubensis Tidalwave strain that exists only through cloning, as it does not produce spores. It forms ns rather than typical mushroom formations and can be very potent. Perhaps one day soon we will see Enigma-like varieties of P. zapotecorum, Pan cyans and other exotic mushrooms.

sPPanaeolus Bisporus
(PCBE 3.9% Minors 0.95% / Testing

Panaeolus bisporus is an extremely potent species of the Panaeolus genus. It di erentiates itself from other Pans (and gets its name) from its two spored basidia (pedestal-like structures that hold the spores in certain mushrooms until they are ready to be released). Bisporus has the highest norbaeocystin content measured so far, one of the minor psychoactive alkaloids often present in psilocybin mushrooms.
Psilocybe Subtropicalis
(Veracruz / PCBE 0.96% Minors 0.37% / Testing Source: Myco Portal/Altitude Consulting)
P. Subtropicalis is a stunning mushroom that grows in the same conditions as P. cubensis (CVG in a monotub) but very slowly. They produce their own distinctive sensations, which have been described as spiritual and euphoric. The strain pictured was originally found by O’Muircheartaigh.
hotographing the alien nature of psychedelic mushrooms is something I’ve always been drawn to. Each fruiting is a unique expression of the mycelial network reacting to its environment which, when consumed, seems to connect us with the divine in its own anomalous ways. It intrigues me that different genus and species of these mushrooms have evolved throughout the world to feel distinct from one another. Do they have these varying effects because of their chemical makeups, or are they drawing energy and essence from the land they grow upon? Magical realism is the essence of psychedelics, and in this new era of scientific exploration it will be fascinating to see where the lines become blurred between facts and subjective introspection.
MIB Red Spore
(Panaeolus cyanescens / PCBE 2.59% Minors 0.12% / Testing Source: Myco Portal/Altitude Consulting)
MIB is a three-way cross between Pan cyan strains Nec’D, PHV, and BVI. It was originally created by Magic Myco Family. The red spore variant occasionally appears in ushes and was isolated for this grow. They feel similar to TTBVI and tend to produce quite a bit more weight per ush. (Mushrooms grow in clusters referred to as ushes.)
MIB Variegated
(Panaeolus cyanescens)
Psyched Medicinals created this beautiful MIB isolation which consistently produces both red and black spore phenotypes. Variegation in mushrooms—diverse colors, shapes and sizes—can often occur with this species.
Jack Frost (Psilocybe cubensis / PCBE 1.1% Minors 0.58% / Testing
Source: Brown Treasure/Magic Myco)
Jack Frost is a beautiful cross of TAT (True Albino Teacher) and APE (Albino Penis Envy) and is one of the more potent P. cubensis strains. First grown by Dave Wombat, it consistently produces some of the most aesthetically pleasing phenotypes of any cubensis strain, often with bluing gills, white caps, and a dark blue umbo (pictured).
TTBVI
(Panaeolus cyanescens / PCBE 3.21% Minors 0.3% / Testing
Source: Myco Portal/Altitude Consulting)
TTBVI are the most potent mushrooms measured to date. Anecdotal reports of these mushrooms suggest a more clear-headed (for better or worse) experience vs. P. Cubensis’s more dream-like characteristics. They were discovered at the base of a tamarind tree in the British Virgin Islands. GordoTek (as he is know in the mushroom community) made an isolation from the original British Virgin Islands culture and named it TTBVI. He then gifted it to anyone interested in the form of spore prints (deposits from the cap of the mushroom which can be used to replicate that mushroom strain).

In 2013, I saw my fi rst therapist. I’d hit a plateau and couldn’t get past a particular emotional response I kept having whenever I felt like I was being
compared to someone else like a colleague or a friend. My therapist asked, “Can I try something?”
She started tapping on me while I repeated some statements. It felt absurd, and I was self-conscious throughout the whole thing. When she stopped, she said, “What came up?” I was stunned to admit that as she tapped, a childhood memory surfaced in which I felt completely invisible around my tall, thin, exceptionally beautiful older cousin. There it was, we had found the root of my insecurity, and most importantly, we could clear it.
The experience stuck with me. I had no idea what it was that my therapist had done. I was convinced it was some kind of witchcraft, but I didn’t care. It worked.
Three years later, in January 2016, I experienced an acute trauma that left me in a hospital bed for months. After my body healed, my mind took its turn to fall apart.
During one particularly bad night, I lay in bed and just started tapping. I remembered what my old therapist had done, plus I had Googled “tapping points.” Each time I felt the despair closing in, I just tapped around
my body until I felt more in control of my urges.
I was sold on Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), also called “tapping.” I soon became an Accredited EFT Practitioner, gaining more advanced accreditation and specialist training over the years. In 2023, I assumed the role of Trustee for EFT International, the largest organization of EFT practitioners.
EFT saved my life, and I’ve never encountered a therapeutic modality like it. For me, it’s the gold standard for therapy because it works. By work, I mean it changes us. In EFT therapy, we don’t just talk about the same problems for months or years. Our goal is to change how we feel or to reduce (or ideally, eliminate) the issues that hold us back or keep us in a loop of suffering or self-sabotage. If we commit to the EFT journey, we do not walk out the same way we went in.
EFT history
EFT may seem like a recent phenomenon in the mental health and personal wellness spheres, but the technique has been used for more than 30 years by practitioners and individuals who prefer an alternative to
traditional talk therapy. EFT is a gentle but highly effective form of somatic therapy. Developed in the 1990s by Gary Craig, EFT has become well-regarded as a trauma therapy due to strong clinical evidence of its ability to deactivate sensory triggers associated with distressing memories and to regulate the nervous system.
While all EFT is tapping, not all tapping is EFT. The term tapping describes stimulating acupoints along the body’s meridian system, just as other acupoint treatments, such as Chinese acupuncture or Japanese shiatsu, use needles or massage to stimulate the acupoints. By contrast, EFT is a therapy that combines the energy principles of Eastern medicine with Western principles of psychotherapy. (It falls under an umbrella category of techniques called “Energy Psychology,” which is rooted in this integrated approach.)
How EFT Works
In EFT therapy, the aim is to change or clear issues. We don’t just learn coping skills or talk about our problems. To understand how EFT “works,” you need to understand a few basics of neuropsychology.
1. Our nervous system holds imprints of past experiences during which we felt unsafe.
2. Our nervous system constantly scans our environment for sensory cues of threat or safety through a process called neuroception. The nervous system’s criteria for assessing whether it is safe is, “Is this similar to something that hurt me before?”
3. The nervous system sends its report to the thalamus, a part of the brain that processes sensory information. The thalamus then
shares this unfiltered report with the amygdala, the brain’s survival center. The amygdala then determines what action is necessary.
4. If the nervous system perceives safety, the amygdala takes no action, and we remain regulated in a “rest and digest” state. However, if it perceives a threat, the amygdala initiates a survival response known as the “fightor-flight” (or freeze) response. This entire process takes mere milliseconds.
While the brain makes an automatic decision,
TAPPING POINTS
it cannot discern between physical and emotional threats. If our brain can’t distinguish between threat levels when someone criticizes us versus when we’re being followed in a dark alley, we become susceptible to under- or overreaction. This is how most conflicts begin. When we’re emotionally and neurologically hijacked by unprocessed and unhealed wounds—most often from our childhoods— our resulting behavior causes a problem. An inappropriate response can look like anything from exploding in anger
An EFT practitioner needs to be adequately trained and accredited to say they practice EFT, whereas anyone can say they guide clients in ‘tapping.’ Professionals who administer EFT refer to themselves di erently depending on the country they practice in. For example, the term EFT Practitioner is used in North America, while the term EFT Therapist is used in many places in Europe. People who are not accredited or educated in mental health usually just say they practice ‘tapping.’ While tapping can be done on ourselves for stress and anxiety relief, please only work with a professional on deeper issues. If you have trauma in your history, it’s essential to work with a trauma-trained (not just trauma-informed) professional.
when someone is rude to freezing when touched. EFT helps with this problem by intervening when the amygdala determines the action the nervous system wants to take. By stimulating acupoints while thinking or speaking about a particular stressor or memory, we send signals to the amygdala, canceling the fight/flight/freeze response. We rewire the brain to stop responding to particular situations, triggers, memories, or sensory stimuli through a survival response.
There is no issue too big or too small for EFT. It is safe and effective for adults, teenagers, and children. EFT can help relieve, process, and often eliminate the following issues.
(Note that not all EFT practitioners work with each of these issues, and some have areas of specialty.)
• Shame
• Phobias
• Trauma (acute, complex, and chronic)
• (C)PTSD
• Anger
• Stress
• Guilt
• Grief
• Anxiety
• Limiting beliefs
• Self-defeating patterns
• Cravings
• Addiction
• Hypervigilance
• Compulsive behaviors
• Eating disorders
• Depression
• Distressing memories
• Physical ailments, including insomnia and chronic pain
• Confl ict in interpersonal relationships
• Fear
• Lack of clarity around decision-making
• Performance blockages
Ultimately, EFT tapping is a highly effective, relatively quick, and gentle therapeutic treatment that is also cost-effective and can be practiced on ourselves once we’ve worked with a practitioner. If you’ve tried traditional talk therapy and don’t feel much better, or if it simply doesn’t appeal to you, I can’t recommend trying EFT tapping enough. There’s nothing to lose except everything holding you back.

PURISTS TO THE
DELECTABLE END
NextOne Labs and its subsidiary HAZĒ Industries combine high-end quality with a no-fuss style.
TEXT ELIZABETH MCWILLIAMS
Sometimes, we prefer a premium, grass-fed steak—one that’s served precisely cooked to our specifications with a scoop of whipped butter and a drizzle of balsamic glaze. Other times, we just want a no-fuss burger that we grill in our backyards.
NextOne (N1) Labs and it’s top-shelf subsidiary, HAZĒ Industries, provide you with both options—the choice to stay in your easy-going daily groove or the opportunity to splurge on the Veuve Clicquot. Regardless of the occasion or your budget, N1 is unique because of its commitment to remaining steadfast purists and consistently delivering quality products, no matter which shelf you purchase from.
Founded by James Lowe and headquartered in Colorado, N1 Labs and HAZĒ Industries (pronounced hey-zee) is a vertically integrated company that prides itself in having the ultimate in quality standards and control. According to Frank Falconer, N1’s Chief Revenue Officer, “N1 is a true farm-to-sale process where we control all the input materials from the plant’s inception to what is sold to the consumer. Our process is truly unique in the Colorado market.”
Indeed, N1 has everything it needs to remain steadfast purists: an outdoor farm where they can hand select plants nourished with Bokashi tea and grown in the high country Colorado sunshine; access to indoor grows from which they can cherry-pick plants that come to flower in a controlled environment that leaves little to chance; and a state-of-the-art laboratory and production facility staffed by
30 personnel who hum along to the tune of today’s most sophisticated extraction equipment.
With all these resources at their fingertips, it’s challenging to determine precisely where the magic happens. Is the elixir most evident in their oxidation-free distillate or in the purity of their award-winning live resin, or is it in HAZĒ’s all new rosin offerings? Regardless, N1/HAZĒ Industries is committed to pioneering innovative products that remain best on the market, whether the consumer feels like rockin’ it in denim or cat-walkin’ it in cashmere.
Cannabis THC or Hemp THC?
The infiltration of hemp-derived THC (or intoxicating hemp) is illegally finding its way into the market. And because it’s cheap to source, a few bad actors are taking CBD concentrate, chemically converting it to THC, and then finding ways to slip their altered THC into the supply channels.
Unfortunately, some reputable brands that do not control their biomass and input materials are getting called out. “But by owning our own farm and doing our own extractions, we can always assure that no intoxicating hemp finds its way into our products,” says Lowe. “Our products are always 100% HEMP free.”
Who Are These Guys?
JAMES LOWE, CEO: Lowe entered the industry in 2008 when he began offering design and operational services to commercial cannabis facilities. In time, he grew his cultivation company to over 500 employees, at one point the largest cultivator in the country, pro-

viding management services to as many as 40 facilities nationwide. Today, his primary focus is in manufacturing and just as he has done so many times before, he has now built an all-star team for N1.
ALEX PATACCHIOLA, VP OF OPERATIONS: In the industry since 2006, Patacchiola started cultivating as a caregiver but then transitioned into manufacturing concentrates in 2012. He is the brainchild behind N1’s manufacturing operations and is the key cog in providing the best concentrates in the Colorado market. From hydrocarbon to distillate, Patacchiola is the man.
FRANK FALCONER, CRO/CSO: Industry OG since 2008 with a background in brand development, Falconer has been with N1 since 2022 and is focused on building a national brand for the cannabis connoisseur.
ANDRE LARGENTE, CHIEF CULTIVATION OFFICER: A true green thumb, Largente started cultivating from seed in 2017 and has
since successfully managed seven outdoor harvests and grown more than 35,000 plants. Largente can quickly adapt to the challenges of growing outside in Colorado— never an easy task.
TJ: As N1’s weed wizard, TJ manages the extraction department and creates those special recipes the Colorado market has grown to love. He’s been growing and making concentrates since 2012.
MICHAEL MORRIS (AKA @MIKEYDABSIT/MIKEYWASHESIT): A new addition to the team, Morris’s focus is on providing the best solventless options in the state. A purist to the core, he runs A+ genetics sourced from the finest grows in Colorado. His standout method is pressing through 316L stainless steel sheets versus the traditional nylon options.
House of Brands: From Everyday Flannel to Egyptian Cotton With their stellar team to back them, N1/HAZĒ is creating a timeless House of Brands. Accord-
ing to their marketing department, “All of our outdoor-grown products have sun-baked goodness in every strain. Everything we produce—from our wax, resin, disty, and pre-rolls—is terpene-rich and smoother than anything else under the sun. This is the foundation of N1.” N1 offerings include:
• Cured Budder/Cured Sugar — N1’s classic concentrate made from the sun.
• Live Budder/Live Sugar — Curated from fresh-frozen material and highlighting sunbaked terps in a premier concentrated form.
• Pre-Rolls – Hand selected from sunbaked goodness (ALL BUD, NO TRIM).
• Infused Pre-Rolls — Infused with disty and botanical terps with fun flavors.
• N1 510 Distillate Cart — Indica, sativa, hybrid, and flavor options – a value-based product with premier oil created for anyone and everyone.
Next Is Now
Based on their steadfast commitment to quality, it’s no surprise that NextOne/HAZĒ was awarded the winner of the 2019 Connoisseur Cup for Best Oil Cartridge and a 710 Labs Award in 2024 for their Artizinal line. The full control of their supply chain from seed to sale, coupled with their deep-seated investment in science and technology, allows them to remain steadfast purists, all the way through to the bitter— no, to the delectable—end.
