PRODUCT FEATURES Deta Slimline offers a dedicated range of Part M wiring accessories with grey frontplates and white switches, making them easily visible to the visually impaired. Plate Switches offer the option of a wide rocker switch which can be easily operated by those with limited dexterity. Switch rockers on multi-gang plate switches are separated, preventing inadvertent operation. Socket Outlets offer the option of a two gang switched socket outlet with outboard rockers, preventing inadvertent operation. The range also includes switches with neon indicators, making it easier for the user to determine if the switch is on or off.

Technical PART M Engraving

Building Regulation Approved Document M (commonly referred to as Part M) covers access to and use of buildings and facilities by disabled people. Part M involves the provision of wide doorways, ramped access for wheelchairs, design of hand rails, stairwells and so on. With respect to switches, outlets and controls there are design considerations that should be taken into consideration where the key factors are easy of operation, visibility, height and freedom of obstruction. Users of switches, outlets and controls should be able to locate a control and know what setting it is on without inadvertently changing its setting. Controls which visually contrast with their surroundings are more convenient for visually impaired people, as are light switches that have large or wide rockers. It is preferable for switches on panels and multiple socket outlets to be well separated to avoid inadvertent operation. Apart from the design of the switch, outlet or control, its position is important. The switches will satisfy requirement M1 where they are position between 400 and 1200mm from the floor, and between 900 and 1100mm for general public use. Whereas sockets should be mounted between 400 and 1000mm. Also, the switches should be an equal distant from door frames and not closer than 350mm to the corners of rooms.
