Bacterial Vaginosis Causes Bacterial vaginosis is a vaginal infection that is common in women of child-bearing age. Most bacterial vaginosis are mild and may never need treatment at all but when symptoms persist or if the infection becomes recurrent, consultation with a gynaecologist should be done. A gynaecologist will determine the cause of bacterial vaginosis through a medical exam, gathering data for medical history and an examination of the discharge common in all bacterial vaginosis cases. There are a number of Bacterial Vaginosis Causes and factors that aggravate the condition. Over douching Douching repeatedly can destroy the normal flora in the vagina and upset the population of good bacteria. This leads to vaginal infections. It is therefore recommended to use douches cautiously. It is common for women to have a peculiar smell especially when they have their periods but a mild soap will do. Douching especially commercially prepared ones contain chemicals that can only kill good bacteria. Overuse of antibiotics Broad spectrum antibiotics prescribed for infections of the pulmonary system, gastrointestinal system, urinary system and so on could also affect good bacteria. Overuse could be due to the severity of the actual infection or it may be due to unauthorized use of antibiotics or the prolonged use of the drug. Reduced immunity Conditions that lead to decreased immunity could also lead to the development of bacterial vaginosis. The immune system simply cannot handle bacterial overgrowth and good bacteria are simply overpowered by harmful microorganisms. Fungi or yeast infections of the skin, mouth, gastrointestinal system and vagina can also be due to reduced immunity. Smoking Smoking will never lead to anything good. It reduces the ability of the immune system to handle infections plus it also weakens the various tissues and cells of the body making recovery from any illness like bacterial vaginosis more difficult. Usually bacterial vaginosis is considered a mild infection but when a woman smokes, her condition may turn for the worse and without treatment can only lead to complications. Multiple sex partners Having multiple or more than one sex partners can aggravate vaginal bacterial infections but not necessarily cause it. If a woman has a female partner then this becomes a sexually transmitted disease. When bacterial vaginosis is not diagnosed and appropriately treated, a woman’s condition turns for the worse. She becomes more susceptible to sexually transmitted diseases, from pelvic inflammatory disease and severe complications for pregnant women like premature labor, increased possibility for caesarean deliveries and so many more. Poor hygiene Poor hygiene is as bad as being too conscientious about cleanliness. Therefore anyone diagnosed with bacterial vaginosis should observe good hygiene by regularly wearing clean underwear, using mild and natural soaps and by maintaining the natural flora of the vagina. There may be other factors that can contribute to the development of bacterial vaginosis. The best way to learn about how to get rid of bacterial vaginosis is to consult a doctor. By consulting a specialist, you will also be able to find out the ideal bacterial vaginosis treatment for your condition.
