Interior Design Concept & Historic Overview
Courtyard by Marriott San Diego Downtown January 9, 2012
Welcome to the Courtyard by Marriott in downtown San Diego. It’s time for this beautiful architectural gem to get refreshed. We want to WOW our guests with the experience of the ornate patterns present throughout the lobby. Starting with the historic Italian Romanesque Revival ceiling design we merge the contemporary custom design rugs and carpets tailored for this location. Against this backdrop of pattern, color and light we want to showcase striking furniture silhouettes whose comfort calls for the guest to linger and enjoy the vitality of the hotel’s lobby. The guest can freely walk to any of the variety of seating clusters present in the space including media pods for presentation training, lounge seating, dining café tables, communal tables and bar seating. Wood trim reminiscent of wood slat screening walls are located around the lobby to provide another layer of intrigue and depth. Together the vibrant colors of the upholstery and alluring sheers of the drapery provide a relaxed elegance. The history of the lobby is maintained with the existing marble and the grand proportions of the architecture while we add to this on the human scale with our dazzling FF&E package.

Live USA TODAY news, money, sports, life, and scores serve as a centerpiece on the GoBoard™ as well as a 3-day weather forecast, live stock market quotes and airport delays. Microso' Virtual Earth displays an interac*ve map iden*fying local points of interest and near-by restaurants, making the GoBoard™ the ideal tool for the business traveler who is not familiar with the local surroundings. Developed specifically for the Courtyard™ brand by Four Winds Interac*ve and USA TODAY, the GoBoard™ gives the user control over the output on the screen, making it an excellent tool to customize offerings based on guest preferences. This image is of a typical GoBoard application. See our interior elevations for actual design.

Detail at Window. Windows on the East side of lobby do not have window coverings. The lobby gets very warm due to solar heat gain. Suggested change is to add a semi-translucent window covering that provides a degree of shading but does not block the view completely and looks unobtrusive from the outside. Valance would match mullion color.
Window shade valance to be attached to drywall header, not window mullion.
