The superposition of place and memory Urban Palimpsest as a methaphor is that by engaging Augmented reality,the limitation of time could be broken. The application of AR brings the story and memory from the past and overlays to the present. it is an superposition of place and memory.

PLACES OF MEMORY ON SITE Historical Buildings in Old Town Dresden

Katholische Hofkirche The Hofkirche was designed from 1738 to 1751.The church was commissioned by Augustus III, Elector of Saxony while built the Frauenkirche between 1726 and 1743.

Semperoper Dresden The history of opera in Dresden goes back to 1667. It was destroyed by the air raids of 1945, until the reconstructed Semperoper was officially opened in 1985.

Statue of King Johann Johann was a King of Saxony and a member of the House of Wettin.

Dresden Frauenkirche The Dresden Frauenkirche is a Lutheran church in Dresden, the capital of the German state of Saxony.

Fürstenzug The 101-meter-long mural depicts the history of the Saxon ruling family of the Wettin family as a larger-than-life rider train.

SPATIAL STRATEGY AR Application to Spaces

1 Central Plaza A semi-open gathering place. Concentrates local Commerical and tourists. Hologram photography over each corner provides immersive experience.

2 Reimagination Wall Memory of 17th Century showing the orgin of the old town city. Re-placing the former glory to the 100 meter long wall.

3 Forested Walk A walk showing the history of city reconstruction after the bombing of Dresden.


4 Memory Theater Indoor experience of witnessing the destruction and reconstruction of Semper opera house.

5 Augmented Nature Hologram videos inbetween trees, creates a mixture reality of nature and city, past and present.

6 Reflection Pool Mirror-like reflection pool. A place for gathering, sharing memory and story-telling.


VISIONS

Scenes in AR people bring their own individual memory to the site, moving thru each places with the AR . In the process of moving and viewing, it also recording what the user see, how the others behaved. and after itinerary, by continually sharing the AR goggle and recording, which make the memory thicker and thicker, continue evolving,

tighten the urban fabric to get rid of the void spacesbuild internal coherence and each elements can function as a whole.

PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT

Community education and public engagement

The design intervention is not a physical landscape, but a communication tool- using podcasts, maps ,walks for the interpretation of urban system. To make a 1: 50 real site model and display to the public. we show the character of each place, call out every advantages and falses.

The project has taken multiple forms to reach a broad audience for the work, moving past typical design products of” drawings” to test more fluid and lively techniques for communication.

Hear your Voice-we encourage every neighbourhood to write down their opponions.

Local Products Display- by displaying the local products and cultural brochures.


ART DISTRICT SCENARIOS

Community education and public engagement

Hybrid Commerce Mode- resturants, stores, single retail , brewery were scattered over the street. To concentrate local art gallery, studios with these retails make the street more attractive for community. A healthy economic mode is the very important step to earn back vistors.

Live Music and Night Carnival- encourage local musicians to hold outdoor live concerts in the square. we provide the site, help construct stages and organize the night carnival.


SUNDIAL

Within the courtyard, five slatted panels are arranged precisely around a 15/’ pole. Throughout the school year stedents can observe the movement of time and seasonal shifts by tracing the pole’s shadow on each panel.
