GuoGe Serena NO.3035034934 THE UNIVERSITY OF HONGKONG DEPARTMENT OF ARCHITECTURE Arch 2047 Ulrich Nicolaus Kirchhoff Semester1 Year2
The first project is to rigorously explore the site from numerousperspectives to include: direct actions, interviews, archival information, and programmatic and spatial analysis. Themes will be identified and explored at different scales from the scale of the room, the block, the strip and the district. The objective is to understand the site’s history, to document the present conditions and toidentify the critical forces that will impactfuture development.

We were interested in typology in terms of urban, architecture and infrastructure (Service). We found that each of the typology have its own significant identity. We a l s o f o u n d t h a t d i ff e r e n t t y p o l o g y sometimes collide with each other. They are the space we wanted to further our research, like the podium top, roof top, the space around flyover(infrastructure), and also the bottom of the podium where urban and architecture generate relationship. Program drawing The programs here are complex and reloaded like the swimming pool and programs within the residential building. Because of these different allocation of programs, These spatial accidents are actually where many kinds of human behaviors exist and create different interesting spatial qualities.

Conclusion: Typology is not generic, it should be site-specific, and take human scale into consideration.

It is inevitable that each of the selected sites will change in the future. Some change incrementally while others are faced with volatile and rapid transformation. Different development pressures such as economic investment, infrastructural growth, planning policy, social organization or shifts in population, all play a role in the speed and form of this transformation process. The agenda of the studio is to come up with alternative future scenarios for these urban districts. Through thinking “What if..., proposals should be provocative and raise issues that challenge typical models of urban development. Whether dystopian, utopian or somehow realistic, the idea is to create spatial interventions that experiment and test how urban spaces in Hong Kong and Shanghai could be designed.
