[talbot, cameron, baldus, stirling & alii] ernst moses Weil (1891-1965) catalogue 4. scientific centenaries in 1943 and 1944, london, winter 1943 Brochure n-8, 36 pp, 269 notices, illustrated wrappers. Dr Weil studied History of Art in Munich with Heinrich Wolfflin (1864-1945) and Paul Frankl (1878-1962). His doctoral thesis (1922) dealt with the 15th century Ulm woodcuts. After his studies he opened together with Hans Werner Taeuber in Munich, Karolinenplatz, the Antiquarian Taeuber / Weil, which specialized in early medical and scientific literature. A native of Switzerland, Taeuber joined the NSDAP, and Weil joined the 1933 emigration to London, with half of the antiquarian books inventory. Dr Weil knew London where he had worked as a bank clerk in 1913-14 at the request of his father. He got a job at the renowned antiquarian EP Goldschmidt and opened in 1943 his own successful bookshop. Even during the war, he kept contacts with the European Antiquarian scene. Transactions were made in Paris or on the international train station in Basel. Dr Weil never returned to Germany. This very rare catalogue n°4 is partly dedicated to the invention of photography, and contains key items by Talbot, Claudet, Cameron, Baldus or Stirling on Spain. It has been reprinted by Mauricio Martino (see notices reproductions at the end of this BTP). ₏ 150
