Cover of the Dictionnaire de Photographes d’après les documents du Minutier. The e-bulletin presents a selection of books, albums, photographs and ancient documents as they have been handed down to the actual owners by their creators and by amateurs from past generations. The physical descriptions, attributions, origins, and printing dates of the books and photographs have been carefully ascertained by collations and through close analysis of comparable works. The books and photographs consigned from all around the world are presented in chronological order. It is the privilege of ancient and authentic things to be presented in this fashion, mirroring the flow of ideas and creations. Payment in euros, Paypal is accepted.

Une publication essentielle pour les collectionneurs de photographies Marc Durand, De l’image fixe à l’image animée (1820-1910). Documents du Minutier central des notaires de Paris relatifs à l’histoire de la photographie, Paris, Publication des Archives nationales réalisée à partir du dépouillement sélectif de 5 109 actes. Deux volumes à pagination continue, 1323 pages pour 7 Kgs, prix public : 80 euros plus frais de port et d’emballage (attention, la Poste française n’est pas bibliophile et nuit beaucoup à la survie des éditeurs !) expédiés vers la France : 100 euros, Europe : 120 euros, Afrique, Asie et Amériques : 180 euros. Cet ouvrage, ordonné comme un dictionnaire par noms de personnes, s’intéresse au monde de la photographie (photographes mais aussi autres métiers liés à cette activité) de la fin du XVIIIe siècle au début du XXe. Cette publication est d’autant plus riche que Marc Durand a mené depuis 1998 son travail de recherche non seulement au sein du Minutier central mais aussi au sein d’autres fonds, conservés aux Archives nationales, aux Archives de Paris, et de nombreux départements. Les notices biographiques et compléments de descriptions d’actes ne se trouvent que sur la version papier de l’ouvrage. The Minutier Central of Notaries of Paris and the History of Photographers and Photography, Paris, National Archives Publication made from the analysis of 5109 selected acts. Two volumes 4° totalling 1323 pages, weight; 14 lbs, price: 80 euros plus postage and packaging (caution, the French Post is not bibliophile!) Shipping within France : 100 euros, Europe: 120 euros, Africa, Asia and Americas: 180 euros. Conceived as a dictionary, ordered by names of people, this book presents documents quoting the world of photography and related activities, since the late 18th century to the early 20th centuries. Marc Durand conducted since 1998 its research not only in the Minutier central but also within other funds, the National Archives, the Archives of Paris and many departments. Biographical notes and descriptions of acts of supplements are found only on the paper version of the book. (More next week)

“BOSSU dit MARVILLE (Charles François), artiste photographe. Paris, 17 juillet 1813 – Paris (XIVe arr.), 1er juin 1879. Fils de Pierre François Bossu et de Thérèse Marguerite Roguelin. Descendant d’une famille de tailleurs présente à Paris dès la seconde moitié du XVIIIe siècle, Charles Bossu reconnaît, dans son testament, avoir utilisé, durant plus de quarante ans, le pseudonyme de Marville. Peintre, graveur (...) 1879, 7 juin. Dépôt judiciaire du testament olographe de Charles François Bossu dit Charles Marville, fait à Paris le 19 avril 1879, à la suite de son décès survenu en son domicile, 75, boulevard Denfert-Rochereau, le 1er juin 1879. Extrait : “Je déclare ici que le nom de Charles Marville est un pseudonyme que je porte depuis quarante-sept ans […] lorsque je rentrais dans les arts, j’éprouvais la crainte que la singularité de mon nom ne me cause les ennuis que j’avais éprouvés en classe, c’est pourquoi je pris, il y a quarante-sept ans, le pseudonyme de Charles Marville.” Marc Durand gave a lecture and presentation at Musée de l’Orangerie Wednesday 02 December within the nice actual exhibition : Qui a peur des Femmes Photographes ?

Nègre vient à Paris en 1839 pour suivre les cours de Delaroche*, puis de Drolling et Ingres*. Nègre realized his celebrated series of calotypes, Olive Oil Mills in Grasse in 1852, painted several oil compositions — sometimes directly on photographic prints — photographed the framed painting (now in Musée Fragonard, Grasse). 1.200 euros
