SOFTWARE:

Prior to completing my masters, I interned in Chicago on the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art that was to be built there. After graduating from Cincinnati, the team for LMNA Chicago invited me back to work on the museum again, but in it’s new location of Los Angeles and with a completely new design.

On this project I helped in managing complex geometry and scripting various solutions for problems unique to this project’s complexities. I developed a script for analyzing the slope of the green roof and another that built a retaining wall that conformed to the undulating geometry. I also helped develop scripts that translated Rhino geometry and its associated data into Revit geometry with schedulable data through the use of Grasshopper and Dynamo.

SKILLS: Complex Geometry

Modeling, Scripting, Problem Resolution, Construction Documents.

I also worked on the design of an exterior garage elevator and outdoor restroom facility and was responsible for all the stair cores in the building and ensuring that the stairs and handrails were modeled and to code. I further assisted in various other duties on the project necessary to see it through Construction Documents.

SOFTWARE:

For Legoland, our team worked on several buildings and rides for the park in tandem. Everything had to be designed to fit the LEGO module. I would model the facade in Revit to match the client’s design intent as provided from Sketchup models.

I also developed wall sections and various details as well as designed ADA-compliant ride queues. Overall, I worked on over ten different buildings for the amusement park.

SKILLS:

Details, Construction Documents, Revit Modeling.

EXTERIOR AND INTERIOR LED CONSULTANT

PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE 15

SOFTWARE: At Standard Vision, I worked as a designer on several LED based projects both interior and exterior. As this was a fairly small company, my duties have been varied and often independent. Many projects were exterior digital signs where I created the full package for plan check and would regularly meet with the planning department to resolve their questions and advocate for the design when there were disagreements. Through good relationships with clients and architects, I’ve also helped bring in additional business to the company.

SKILLS: Plan check meetings, shop drawings, design-build, client relations.

PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE 19

SOFTWARE: SKILLS: Coordination, scripting, construction documents, detail design.

Working at Standard Vision, I helped translate the architect’s design intend into a workable model for the exterior LED facade. I developed a parametric model in Rhino/Grasshopper that varied the feathering and sizing of the LED blades as they moved along the skin of the building. I then used our engineer’s Solidworks models as a basis to create families in Revit for each of the eight different blade module types and populated them in Revit using Dynamo.

I also was responsible for creating the full LED consultant construction document set, with the exception of the electrical and data singlelines.

DESIGNER: STANDARD VISION

PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE 23

SOFTWARE: Ally wanted a mixed interior/exterior experience for two of their hallways within their Charlotte headquarters. Our design consisted of three layers, an LED-blade system along the hallway wall, a blade system against the windows, and a higher resolution screen along the ceiling.

I had to work with the existing building and navigate the slight differences between each window bay in order to design a bracket that would work in all conditions and a mullion cover that would conceal the bracketing and cabling from the inside.

Because we were the designers, fabricators, and installers the level of detail in the drawings I produced had to be created to shop drawing precision.

SKILLS:

Scripting, shop drawings, coordination.
