01 NEW HEADQUARTERS FOR THE BARCELONA MOUNTED POLICE Proposal for a police station, 10 000 m2 Barcelona, Spain 2017
project description Usually hiding behind fortress-like buildings, police stations tend to project a rather hostile image instead of a welcoming one. Learning from problematic relationships between communities and their police forces all over the world, this project proposes a carefully balanced environment for the headquarters of the Barcelona Mounted Police. It is conceived as a “Polis Station” –Polis is the Greek word for community–; where different parts of the program act as meeting places where citizens interact with the police in non-enforcement situations. Ultimately, this project is born under the premise that the police officer needs the community and the community needs the police. Architecture can offer new ways to reinvent this relationship in search of a healthier, safer, happier city.

02 —— THE LIMIT
01 —— THE PARK Nature, in its attempts to invade architecture, reawakens our relationship with our surroundings. Sometimes with violence and other times with gentleness, nature always revives us both physically and spiritually. The first gesture is a no-gesture: we just let nature take over the site, extending the park.

When nature interacts with architecture it becomes no longer an independent entity. Nature, which up to that point had remained uncontrollable, becomes, through its resonance with the definite geometries embodied in the architecture, an abstraction of itself. The project begins when defining a limit which, strategically placed, activates the space of the surrounding public areas.
03 —— THE WALL
04 —— THE CONNECTIONS
A wall can divide an interior and an exterior, lead the movements inside a building or may materialize a border, divide two properties or even two countries. A wall could be so thick that its enclosure can host a space in itself: an ambiguous domain within its thickness, an interstitial area on the brink between two conditions: inside and outside.
Architecture shuts out or opens itself to the outside depending on its own distinctive rules. Hidden circulations leave room for unexpected visual connections.
The perimeter walls become rooms, creating a central green area: a park within the park.
The equestrian pavilion and the dressage arena are the biggest pieces of the program, they are place on separate ends. The thin lateral wings hide ramps that bring cars and horses from one level to the other, keeping the interior circulation for occasional visitors.
05 —— THE LANDMARK
06 —— THE COMMUNITY
Mounted police is used for specialized tasks ranging from the surveillance of parks and natural areas to anti-riot brigades, where the horse are able to intimidate with its size to those who have to be dispersed.
The final form is not a construction in space, an object in itself; but more of a container, a space delimiter. This building does not contain an empty space, but instead indicates its own footprint in the park: space as a place.
The police program is concentrated in a central tower that emerges above the trees, being the only visible landmark and representing the presence of the urban police. Always visible, always vigilant.
When less is least, and more is most, architecture enters a new dimension. As simple as it can be. As complex as it needs to be.

02 EIXAMPLE ART GALLERY Apartment and art gallery, 275 m2 Barcelona, Spain 2015
project description Located in the heart of Barcelona, near the Passeig de GrĂ cia, this gallery occupies an old warehouse inside an Eixample block. The brief specified that the gallery works with two different lines, the one of the modern art and the 20th century avant-garde movements, and the other one linked with the contemporary artists. This two lines of work must converge in a single space, and complement each other. Upon entering through a dark corridor, the guests are welcomed by a layered open space filled with natural light. The space is designed for a flexible use, and it includes a storage shed, an office and a small apartment for the gallery owner.

03 INDUSTRIAL 43 STUDIO Renovation of an old warehouse, 500 m2 Terrassa, Spain 2017
project description Industrial 43 Studio will be the largest coworking office in the city of Terrassa, near Barcelona. The client owned two industrial warehouse that had been unused for a few years, and asked us to develop a proposal for a flexible space where to work, teach and host events, at a minimum cost, using affordable materials. The project connects both warehouses in order to create a large open space with two different conditions. The perimeter walls are covered with wooden furniture that hosts all the fixed utilities such as workstations, circulations and storage, leaving the rest of the space free to adapt to different needs or events.

04 FOREST ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Sustainable elementary school, 5 000 m2 Asheville, USA 2015
project description It is known that, in the past, philosophers and saints used to sit with his disciples in the shade of a tree, transmitting their wisdom without reinforced concrete structures above them. Great men and great spirits grew up by knowing how to exploit the universe around them as a teaching material with intelligence and creativity as its simple resource. In a site surrounded by forest, the proposal builds upon this idea of “life under a tree�.

project description Respecting all of the pre-existing elements in the Frederic Marès Museum, visitors are invited to reflect on the architect’s role as a “definer” of spaces, through an indefinite, transient experience that is created and reimagined by the free will of the visitors. Time is used as a design element, since the installation is not projected as a static object: it takes a new dimension every time a person comes in, becoming an actor and audience at the same time in an ethereal theater of shadows. 06 BREXIT MEMORIAL Installation, 120 m2 Coquelles, France 2017
project description The circle is related to the divine: a simple circle has, since ancient times, represented unity, eternity, and continuity because it has no beginning and no end. Despite being the simplest of the curves, mathematicians consider it a polygon with an infinite number of sides. However, if you remove a point from the circumference of a circle then it is no longer a circle. This gesture eliminates the idea of eternity, indicating a beginning and therefore an end to the intrinsic unity of the circumference itself. The memorial is composed of 28 spheres that represent the 28 members of the EU. Upon entering the EU from the UK, the perspective will intuit a circle; the symbol of unity. It is an optical illusion called anamorphosis: a distorted projection that appears normal when viewed from a particular perspective. In reality, the circle is incomplete, as there is a leaving sphere that breaks the idealistic pure form, thus turning the circle into a banal open curve, a symbol of a failed utopia. in collaboration with alvaro maestro, joan salvadรณ, marco mosca

07 SPECTRA Installation, 70 m2 Savannah, USA 2018
project description SPECTRA is a site-specific installation created to commemorate and celebrate the Savannah College of Art and Design and its pivotal relationship to the city of Savannah. The piece reflects how the school has become a prism to city and to the art world, and like a prism SCAD reveals the inner beauty and qualities of the things that pass through it. In the same way SPECTRA reimagines the city and community around it. Each prism that makes up the installation is aligned to historic building or landmark that played a pivotal role in the heritage and continued legacy of thecity and the school. SPECTRA transforms the space around it into a kaleidoscopic composition views, revealing to the viewer a new way to see the things that exist around them. The Savannah College of Art and Design, for 40 years, has revealed to each student their inner potential and talent,and the school has revealed to the world the magic and wonder of a sleepy little town in the south. in collaboration with bradley bowers

08 LOST NARCISSUS Installation, 80 m2 Montpellier, France 2018
project description Ongoing project for an installation in Montpellier exploring the idea of “Beauty” and its implications in contemporary society. This proposal juxtaposes the notion of beauty as “perfection” and the notion of beauty as “imperfection”. Perfection is symbolized by the tale of Narcissus, who fell in love with its own reflection but that was the cause of his death. Imperfection is symbolized by the Japanese word “kintsugi” which is a restoration technique that celebrates the beauty of damage as an intrinsic part of one’s uniqueness. in collaboration with valeria flores

project description Facing the challenge to display the entire Visionario collection — over 60 different sunglasses— while preserving the uniqueness of each item, we conceived the pop-up as a topography of individually backlit pedestals that present every single product as an object of desire. The visual lightness of the structure and the mirror-coated backdrop create a surprising optical illusion: the sunglasses appear to levitate above the ground in a final piece that is both functional and distinctive. in collaboration with joan salvadó, marco mosca

12 SPADA CERAMICS COLLECTION Ceramics collection for CERASARDA Sicily, Italy 2017
project description SPADA is a contemporary collection of ceramic furnishings for a Mediterranean hotel. Inspired by water cutting through rock, each piece in the SPADA collection is marked by a distinct slice, that enriches its use and enhances its aesthetic. There is something unique about the Mediterranean coastal landscapes. Most are broken somewhere by cliffs and escarpments that create tens of thousands of caves, shafts, holes and crevices in the hills and mountains. SPADA collection for Cerasarda is bringing together the elegance of the Mediterranean, born from the encounter between ethos -the original object- and pathos -the passionate act of slicing-; between craftsmanship and technological development. in collaboration with bradley bowers

description I entered BIG as an intern on August 2015, working with Jakob Sand and Joao Albuquerque in Europa City’s project. When BIG was shortlisted for the FC Barcelona Stadium competition, I was offered the opportunity to contribute to the NYC office working with Agustín Perez in the concept development stage. Upon my return to Copenhagen, I was involved in the following projects: TEVA HQ (Joao Albuquerque), FLO Serpentine School (Marie Lançon), Barangaroo Masterplan (Joao Albuquerque/ Jakob Lange), BLF Banque Libano Francaise (Hanna Johansson/ Lucian Racovitan) and GLCE Galeries Lafayette Champs Elysées (Gabrielle Nadeau), as well as taking part on a few deadlines. My time at BIG had a great impact in my career as an architect and my understanding of the methodology of a contemporary practice. I had the opportunity to be part of projects of different scale and nature, from high-paced competitions to demanding design development stages.

15 WALT DISNEY IMAGINEERING Savannah, USA Jan. 2014 — Apr. 2014
description When I was studying in the United States, I was invited to join the SCADpro program for a collaboration with Walt Disney Imagineering, the project division of the Walt Disney Company. During 10 weeks, I had the opportunity to work with artists of other creative disciplines in the concept development for a future Disneyland Hong Kong extension. It was a stimulating challenge as the focus wasn’t so much in the architecture itself, but in the narrative potential behind it. We developed a masterplan focusing on moments that would enhance the retail, dining and entertainment experience of Disneyland Hong Kong visitors. From SCAD’s website (scad.edu/scadpro): “SCADpro is an innovation studio that combines the brainpower of top students, alumni and professors to answer big business’s biggest creative challenges.”

description When Mesura was still named D311 Studio back in 2012, they organized a project workshop in Dubrovnik, Croatia, in order to develop concepts and graphics to support the project “Back to Citizens”, an urban masterplan that aimed to create new public space around the UNESCO World Heritage stone walls of Dubrovnik. I was among the 12 students that were selected to join the project. We produced documents that would later be presented to the local citizens and authorities. It was my first international experience outside of academia.

description Upon my return to Barcelona after six months in Lisbon with Aires Mateus, I was offered a teaching position at the University of South California + Universitat Ramon Llull 4th year joint architecture studio. The project that we are developing in our studio is about coming up with solutions for an upcoming expansion of the city of Barcelona towards the industrial area of the Zona Franca. It is a rewarding experience as I am exposed to new ideas from students that come from varied backgrounds.
