hinpei Takeda is a visual artist and filmmaker based in Tijuana, Mexico and DĂźsseldorf, Germany. His works involve a wide range of themes regarding memories and history. He uses multi-media installations, sound interventions, documentary films, large-scale photography installations, and collaborative community projects to explore memories of human violence, particularly via narratives of exile. His recent projects include Alpha Decay series (2010-2012) and Beta Decay series (2013-2015), in which he created large installations, based on his 8 years of interviews with over 60 atomic bomb survivors living in the North and South Americas, in different sites across the world. Takeda is also a founder and creative director of The AJA Project, a nonprofit that has been dedicated to working with resettled refugee children in San Diego using participatory photography. His recent documentary films include El Mexico mas Cercano a Japon (2008), which explores the first Japanese photographer of Tijuana in the 1920s, and Hiroshima Nagasaki Download (2010). His recent publications include "Alpha Decay: How can contemporary art express the memory of atomic bomb?" (2014) and "Hiroshima/Nagasaki beyond the Ocean" (2014). He also directed the Tijuanabased noise punkformance documentary Ghost Magnet Roach Motel. “In ancient Greek mythology, Chronos is the linear chronological ‘time’ and Kairos is the ‘time’ - the right, critical moment specific to a space for something to occur. My work has dealt with finding the intersection of Chronos and Kairos, working with histories and memories while understanding how to adopt to the contingent circumstances. In this exhibition, I propose a series of works based on my intent to find the intersection of the sequential objective time and non-sequential subjective time.” Left: Voice Pattern #5 (Alpha Decay Series), 2014. SERGOTT CONTEMPORARY ART ALLIANCE By working closely with local art organizations and community partners, our gallery, Sergott Contemporary Art Alliance, fully embraces the idea of an artistic community and seeks to showcase local artists to a global audience. Since our founding, we maintain a growing supportive and philanthropic role in the greater San Diego Art Community and have hosted multiple community outreach programs outlined in our exhibition history. In 2016, we extended our alliance program by creating two new divisions that focus on multi-disciplined mid-career to established artists and international photo-based artists. Our goal is to provide a format whereby our emerging artists have a platform for growth. Currently, SCAA maintains a full schedule of national Art Fairs where we have extended our connections to collectors, museums, foundations, and corporate collections. We are open by appointment only in Rancho Santa Fe, California. (T) 858.756.2377 (C) 858-922-5325 (F) 858-756-4119 info@sergottart.com | sergottart.com
