Shelving Styles
Shelving Categories
Bulk Rack: Use to store hand-loaded items that require higher capacities or larger shelf sizes. Used in warehouses and loading docks. Double- and Single-Rivet Shelving: These versatile units feature boltless shelf connections for fast assembly, and no cross-braces for access on all four sides. Most units offer decking options such as particleboard, steel, or wire mesh. Meets a broad range of storage requirements. Clip-Style Shelving: The low-cost shelving option that’s available in open or closed styles. Shelves reposition easily with clips. Ideal for office storage.
Ultra-Capacity: Constructed of the thickest gauges of steel, this shelving often features all-welded or bolted construction. These units will satisfy the most demanding requirements. Heavy-Industrial: For heavier hand-loaded storage needs that demand the best fit and finish. They offer higher safety factors and capacities as well. Standard-Industrial: Shelving constructed with lighter gauges of steel for your moderate storage needs. Light-Industrial: Economical units are perfect for applications like your office stockroom.
Glossary of Terms Shelf Capacity: Rated by the manufacturer, this is the maximum evenly distributed load a shelf can safely hold. Gauge of Steel: Each gauge number relates to a standard minimum thickness. As the gauge number goes down, the steel becomes thicker. Example: 18-gauge is at minimum 0.0428" thick (43 mil); 12-gauge is at minimum 0.0966" thick (97 mil). Starter: Includes 4 posts or 2 upright frames and a specified number of shelves or levels.
Add-On: Includes 2 posts or 1 upright frame and a specified number of shelves or levels. Level: Two-part shelves consisting of shelf beams and decking. Extra levels can be added to any shelving unit. Shelf Beam: Structural support for decking. Decking: Shelf surface that fits into the shelf beams.

heavy loads. 4 Steel Decking: Provides maximum strength and rigidity. Grab inventory easily
with ribbed steel decking. Decking can be ordered with shelving unit or separately. Please call for options. 1
Beam Hook: Up to three beam hooks in shelf beam match up with key-slot openings in upright for rigid assembly. Used on bulk shelving.
2
Rivet: Rivets in shelf beam (and front-to-back ties) align with keyhole openings in posts. Assembly requires only a rubber mallet, to tap shelf beams into place. Single- and double-rivet styles available.
3
Tab-Style: Locks shelf beam into post with a tab-and-slot configuration.
4
Bolted: Shelves are bolted to posts with provided hardware.
5
Clip: Separate clip serves as support between shelf and post, and allows for easy shelf adjustment. Four clips are used per shelf.
6
All-Welded: Shelves and uprights are welded together with a consistent, continuous weld. Shelf spacings are fixed, capacities are higher.
7
Set Screw: Shelves tighten to post with allen wrench/hex key. This connection allows shelves to be infinitely adjustable along posts.
Upright/Post Styles Angle Posts: A 90° L-shape angle that provides vertical support for rivet, bolted, and clip-connection style shelving. Used in both starter and add-on shelving. T-Posts: A T-shape post that provides vertical support for rivet, bolted, and clip-connection style add-on shelving. Welded Upright Frames: The vertical support for a shelving unit; all-welded with front-to-back ties.
Box Posts: A box-shape post that provides vertical support for clip-connection style shelving. Allows access to full width of shelf.
