country analysis location Aside from low freight costs and shipping time, Ahimsa is looking for a country with a resilient infrastructure. Multiple shipping options are ideal, as well as regular shipments to the US.
technology Given the product category, Ahimsa must find 21st century factories with the latest technology to manufacture the knit garments with the highest quality for our consumers.
sustainability Each country considered in the supply chain will be evaluated based on environmental standards. Sustainable factories are ideal to help care for the environment we love.
trade Ideally Ahimsa would like to manufacture in a country with a free trade agreement with the United States, but since this isn’t always an option– candidates must be carefully evaluated.
labor laws Ahimsa will not tolerate forced labor and supports fair wages and working conditions. All employees must be treated fairly, and labor laws will be followed.
cost Each topic of analysis is evaluated on what’s best for Ahimsa, its customers, and the community with costs in mind. Each member of the supply chain must be compensated fairly.
The fabric for Ahimsa apparel is made from recycled plastic bottles and is manufactured in Italy. With this in mind, we searched for factories with closer proximity to Italy to allow for the fabric to reach the factory faster. Countries that were originally considered include Israel, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, and Indonesia. The factories will be assessed based on the criteria mentioned.

INDONESIA The textile industry is one of the most important industries to Indonesia and accounts for over 10% of the country’s manufacturing workforce. T h e U.S. is Indonesia’s biggest export market, accounting for 1/3 of their total apparel and textile exports. Indonesia manufactures men’s and women’s woven shirts and knits, polyester, cotton, athletic wear, and children’s apparel. An average garment worker makes about $3.5 a day. Indonesia and the US do not have any trade agreements in terms of textiles.
selection
SRI LANKA
ISRAEL
The most significant industry for Sri Lanka is the textile industry earning over $3 billion in export revenue over the last five consecutive years. In terms of the environment, they created the First eco-friendly factory cut energy usage in half and water by 70%. Sri Lanka spans in many areas with the production of apparel, including Sportswear, lingerie, loungewear, bridalwear, workwear, and childrenswear. Garment workers are paid fair wages– with little discrimination, sweatshop practices, or child labor and get paid about $2.50 a day. Currently there are no trade agreements between the US and Sri Lanka.
Israel has experienced a decrease in the apparel manufacturing sector due to globalization. The apparel manufacturing export industry accounts for 15% of the revenue. They have high-tech manufacturing, which allows them the manufacture specialized products. Israel produces highquality men’s and women’s undergarments, Knitwear, Home textiles, swimwear and sportswear. Labor costs are higher at $10 an hour, since they have a high education system. Currently the US and Israel have a free trade agreement.

Because Ahimsa represents sustainability and non-viloence, finding the right suppliers is very important. In each of the countries selected, we searched for the best factories with the best practices. The factories that were selected in each country publish information about the conditions of their factories, workers, and business ethics. At the core of each company is the push for sustainability. 12
strategy country Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and Israel are three countries with a thriving apparel and textile industries. Each country utilizes cutting edge technology that is perfect for activewear, and takes a stance for sustainability. The location for each factory works well for the Italian fabric mill which is located in Arco. Workers in each factory are paid fairly with safe conditions, and allow Ahimsa to receive high quality merchandise at a reasonable price for our consumers. Although not all the countries have trade agreements with the US, each has an infrastructure favorable for shipping.
suppliers The top suppliers in each of the three countries were evaluated and the factories we chose are Tefron Ltd in Israel, Quantum Clothing Group in Sri Lanka, and Yogi and Boo in Indonesia. Each factory not only provides excellent quality, but they also have sustainability practices in place.
units A line plan is included in the appendix as well a s unit breakdown. While each of the factories we profiled are qualified to manufacture Ahimsa products, Yogi and Boo in Indonesia is the one listed on the tech packs.
