Ways to Turn Off a Homebuyer If you are currently trying to sell your home, you are probably aware that the housing market has not been doing well for the last couple of years. The market has been full of foreclosures, short sells, and bank reownings. 10 years ago, people would’ve been chomping at the bit to buy your house. But now, people are hesitant to buy in the current market.

Cleaning Your Home for the Market In order to sell your house, you are going to want to make sure that it is in top condition. You may not have the funds to completely redo your house, but there are small and simple things you can do in order to improve the overall look and atmosphere of your house. There are several things that buyers often say turn them off from buying a house when they are looking into buying. One of the main things is dirt. If a house is dirty, it cannot look appealing to a potential buyer. Many real estate agents advise that homeowners try to deep clean their home, so it can look as nice as possible for the buyers. If your carpets are old or dingy, you should probably consider replacing them. If replacing the carpets is not in your budget, you should definitely try to at least shampoo them.

Freshening Your Home for the Market Another major turn off for buyers is odors. Heinous or offensive odors will turn off your buyer in a heartbeat. One of the main issues with smells is pets. Many people who own pets do not notice that their pets have a distinctive smell. But it is important to realize that people who have never entered your home before are not used to your pets’ smell. It is also important to realize that many people are not even animal people at all. This is why it is crucial to try to eradicate your home of smells that could even be potentially offensive to potential buyers. Another great thing to do is even make sure your pets are out of the home before you show your home.

Also, you should try to remove any pet items that may be around your home, such as toys, bones, or feeding bowls. Sometimes even seeing signs that pets live in the home will turn people off from buying the home. The same is also true if you are a smoker. Try to remove any signs that you are a smoker, like ashtrays and the like. The potential buyers will probably still be able to tell that you are a smoker, because cigarette smoke is very pervasive. However, it is in your best interest to at least try to clean your furniture and curtains so that at least some of the smell is gone from the house. Many mobile homes in Utah are having problems selling right now because of these issues. Owners often do not keep their mobile homes in Utah clean, and they reek of smoke. If you are the owner of a mobile home or a regular home, keep your home clean when showing it. This will greatly increase the chances of your home selling.
