Where there are people, there should be wood. Because wood makes life simpler and more beautiful. It’s just as durable as many other materials and a lot more sustainable than most of them.
GRÖNSAMHET
Simply put – the more wood there is, the more our planet rejoices. And that’s important to us. We want to do business in a way where everyone prospers – not just ourselves, but also our customers, nature and society. This is what we call “Grönsamhet”.
If you look up “Grönsamhet”, you won’t find a translation. It’s our own word combining the Swedish words for “green” and “profit”. It perfectly captures what we aspire to do.
We care about generating value and creating sustainable products that benefit all. And we’re in the right business to do it. Because the wood business is a very good business, if one wants to reach the goal of Grönsamhet. Which we do.
In order to do so, we live by these five principles:

WE KEEP PUSHING THE LIMITS
Nature is the perfect example of a ‘doer’ – always delivering on its promises. And we find heaps of inspiration in that. We push ourselves every day in pursuit of making the most of what wood can be. We keep pondering all possibilities fervently, because the future begins in our dreams.
There’s plenty of evidence in nature that those who collaborate can make each other flourish. So, we’ve taken it upon ourselves to help our customers grow. And that’s the foundation of ‘Grönsamhet’. Because when our customers do well, everyone wins.
At Setra, we are always striving to increase the added value of our products. That’s why we have opened a new wood industry hub in Långshyttan, where we produce glulam, cross laminated timber and structural construction components. The raw materials are taken directly from our sawmills around Bergslagen.

WE KNOW THE FUTURE IS BUILT FROM WOOD
Sometimes it’s hard to see the forest for the trees. Not so much for us. That’s why we love spending time in nature. It’s where we envision a more sustainable future where wood can give us skyscrapers, fuels, food, underwear, window frames – and more. These are the vast realities that can be created with wood.
Of course, we‘re still rooted in the present. But that being said, we have a bird’s-eye view of what’s to come. And that’s the perfect position for us. Because from there, we can take our customers’ visions and make them soar high above the treetops. Because there is virtually no limit to what wood can be. So, by sharing all our knowledge, we can create more Grönsamhet wherever it may bloom.
Our state of the art planing mill in Hasselfors produces top of the line finished products for construction, especially developed for the UK, US and Australian markets.
Our CLT contributes to lowering CO ² emissions in the construction industry. More and more wooden skyscrapers are being built, and this entails climate benefits since wood locks in CO ² during its entire lifetime.
Setra and Preem’s joint venture Pyrocell started production in the autumn of 2021. The facility produces bio-oil from sawdust. The oil is used as a raw material for producing biofuels. Pyrocell’s annual production is equivalent to the annual fuel consumption of approx. 17 000 passenger cars.

WE KNOW WE ARE NOT THERE YET
Wood is incredibly sustainable. It’s the only renewable building material – and 1 square meter sawn wood binds 800 kilos of carbon dioxide. So, building with wood is a win for the entire planet. But that’s not enough. We’re aiming to increase the value of our products and improve the working environment in our facilities. And we always strive to decrease our own impact on the planet by optimising our use of energy and resources – for the sake of nature, society and ourselves.
We also help our clients become more sustainable, by helping their businesses bloom. That, in turn, provides the strength needed to contribute to the world’s well-being. And that gives rise to budding Grönsamhet. Because, despite what’s been said, money does grow on trees.
All the timber that Setra uses is controlled according to FSC ® and PEFC™. In addition, all our production facilities in Sweden are ISO 14001 certified and our wood industry hub in Långshyttan is also ISO 9001 certified. This means that we systematically work with sustainability to continuously improve our environmental performance.
Our investments in new drying kilns have vastly improved capacity and made energy use more efficient.
Wood products are climate positive and bind more CO ² than their production generates. During 2021, our sold goods bound 1.3 million tonnes of CO ².
We are streamlining our shipments, increasing the degree of filling, and switching to more environmentally friendly fuels when possible. We are also continuing to invest in railway access to our facilities.

WE’RE GROUNDED AND STEADY
We’re predictable and reliable – and totally okay with that. Because there’s a time for surprises and a time to keep promises.
We take 100% responsibility for the quality, delivery and sustainability. We also make sure to have a personal relation with all our clients, in order to build trust. And we only do business where good ethics is at the core.
As a customer, you can be sure that every Setra product is controlled and traceable, all the way from forest to finished product.
Already in the forest, we start optimizing raw materials for specific end purposes. At our facilities, the timber is x-rayed and sorted with the help of cameras, to make sure that we always deliver the right quality and meet our customers’ expectations.
Through our project model, which is unique in the industry, we offer personal service and provide expertise in construction and building assembly. A complete solution where we are with you from idea, all the way to finished project.

WE ARE STILL GROWING
We’re not the biggest – and that’s fine. We find that it’s easier to untap curiosity, to explore possibilities and to keep things personal when you’re smaller and more agile, as opposed to a big and clumsy machine.
We also find it easier to help others grow if we, too, are growing. And supporting others’ development is how we develop ourselves. So, at Setra, we keep cultivating our abilities in order to help each other and our clients blossom.
Also, being relatively small is a reason for us to care more and fear less. We need to work hard. Not in the pursuit of being bigger, but in being better.
Setra is an important employer in the places where we are active. We are a value-driven organisation with short decision paths. Our way of working is based on daily pulse meetings constantly pushing us forward. Continuous improvement is the key to success.
We have recently made major investments to increase productivity and efficiency at our units in Sweden.
