for Kothrud residents The second Kothrud Sanskrutik Mahotsav concludes

The Kothrud Sanskrutik Mahotsav travelled through our rich cultural history and gave spectators some moments of pride. The event was organised by Sanskrutik Pratishthan and sponsored by Darode-Jog Properties.

E

very arc light, every set up and every performance revealed the cultural side of the city in the opulent second Kothrud Sanskrutik Mahotsav which concluded recently. Month of May saw residents of Kothrud enjoy a cultural extravaganza. Sanskrutik Pratishthan organised the event while Darode-Jog Properties were the main sponsors of this cultural fest. Everything from the preparations of the event to its format, and from the dazzling stars to interested culture lovers, was grander than the event held in 2012. This four day cultural festival had everything from dance to drama. The event was grouped in four different programmes. Day one was dedicated to Maharashtra's son- Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Jaanata Raja, an epic drama in Marathi describing the journey of Shivaji Maharaj was presented by Babasaheb Purandare and his team. The ever popular scene of 'Rajyabhishek Sohala' (coronation ceremony) was performed here. People were happy to witness the

grandness all over again. Day two saw an interview with Mahesh Manjrekar, senior filmmaker. The show was based on the lines of a classic television program titledJeena Isi Ka Naam Hai. His close family members, friends, colleagues and relatives revealed different layers of his personality. Day three was for connoisseurs of music. Event titled Jalad Utsav- Dhrut Taal (Taal used in Indian classical music to present music with fast tempo.) was held on the day. A jugalbandhi between Sanjeev Abhyankar and Rahul Deshpande was tuneful to ears. Day four celebrated the 100 years of Indian cinema. Actors like Ramesh Deo, Seema Deo, Mahesh Kothare, Sachin Pilgaonkar, Smita Talwalkar, Amruta Subhash, Sonali Kulkarni etc. Producers and directors like Kedar Shinde, Umesh Kulkarni, Abhijeet Gholap etc. and singers like Rahul Saxena and Mugdha Vaishampayan amongst others presented the 100 years of the Indian

cinema by enacting scenes and songs from popular movies. Comedy skits were also presented. The programme was apt to justify the 100 years of Indian cinema. Devendra Phadanvis, President of Bhartiya Janata Party, Maharashtra Pradesh, was the chief guest for this event. Singer and musician Salil Kulkarni was bestowed with Sanskruti Kala Puraskar while stage artist Jaymala Shiledar was honoured for receiving Padmashri recently. Monika Mohol was the convenor of this fest. Sudhir Darode inaugurated the Mohatsav while Anand Jog concluded it. Sunil Pitale, Head, RedCell represented Darode-Jog Properties on all the four days of the cultural festival. On the concluding day, all the spectators went back with enriching cultural experience. All thanks to the Kothrud Sanskrutik Mahotsav.

Namaste, “A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step.”

W

e all have traveled together many miles and of course there is so much to look forward to in the future. That we are journeying together is a great truth. Even more satisfying is the knowledge that we are all bound by a common purpose of togetherness. We therefore thought of enriching this whole experience of togetherness by offering this podium wherein we can all keep in touch and share something worthwhile. Of course the journey’s begun but we said right at start, the first step has been taken. This product is for each one of us and we do hope that this shall prove to be our friend, philosopher and guide as we move on. We appeal to you to participate wholeheartedly in this new venture. Let’s make it a success! We begin this issue with a reportage of the recently concluded cultural event in Kothrud. DarodeJog Properties believes in nurturing the cultural spirit of Pune and had hence decided to participate in the Kothrud Sanskrutik Mahotsav first organised by Sanskrutik Pratishthan in 2012. This year, we are back with a grander second season of the cultural festival. Anand Jog is an artist and is greatly inspired by the works of Mario Miranda. In this issue, Anand talks about Miranda passionately. The interview is a must read! Let us set higher goals for ourselves and let us all work harder towards keeping commitments.

Embracing green covers! Darode-Jog Properties recently organised two events to spread environmental awareness. One focused on the degrading rivers while other gave the message of nurturing environment.

nvironment scene in Pune is adopting the green cover like never before! All thanks to environmental organisations and nature lovers from various fields! Darode-Jog Properties conducted two events recently for spreading environmental awareness. One was the conference on 'Water Conservation and Revival of degrading Rivers' held at Vishwabhavan Auditorium of Symbiosis Institute recently. Dr. Rajendra Singh, the water man of India was the Chief Guest while MLA Girish Bapat was the guest of honour. The panel discussion was conducted to frame an action plan to save Mula-Mutha River with the participation of citizens. Members who participated in panel discussion were Sudhir Darode and Anand Jog, Directors, Darode-Jog Properties, Satish Magar, CMD, Magarpatta Township, Rajendra Pate, President, Marathi Bandhkam Vyavasayik Association (MBVA) and Vinod Bodhankar, Environmentalist. Panel discussion was moderated by Sandip Joshi, Director, Shrishti Eco-Research Institute (SERI). “Akrosh Mula Muthecha” - a documentary on Mula – Mutha river pollution made by Kiran Joshi was shown during the conference. Documentary shows the pollution from the start of the river till it

reaches to Ujani dam. Darode-Jog Properties, in association with Tellus organization, Ocean Savers of India, SERI and Jal Biradari conducted this conference. The second event was held on the eve of World Environment Day (June 5, 2013). Nature lovers attended the rally conducted by Darode-Jog Properties, Tellus Organization and Lokmat with an aim to spread environmental awareness, Vaishali Bankar, Mayor of Pune, Vishwas Pandhare, Asst. Commissioner, Traffic and Ujjwal Keskar, former Corporator and party head of Pune Janhit Aghadi, were present to support the cause. The rally commenced from Sambhaji Park. There were over 200 volunteers comprising of people from Darode-Jog Properties, Lokmat, school children and PMC staff. Abhay Chhajed addressed the rally at Alka Talkies Chowk. Volunteers distributed paper bags to commuters at Alka Talkies Chowk and requested everyone to nurture the environment. Clean environment will ultimately provide us safe drinking water. With such initiatives by nature lovers and our ample support towards the causes, we will be able to realise the dream soon!
