The Korea Craft and Design Foundation (KCDF) is a publicly funded agency under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism that seeks to promote uniquely Korean arts, crafts and designs both for Koreans and the global community. By working with members of prominent arts and culture circles, including craftsmen, designers, and cultural industry experts, as well as those involved in academia and industry, KCDF’s primary objective is to provide opportunities for people to experience crafts and design culture in their everyday lives. Through a close-knit network with crafts- and designrelated institutions, KCDF is constantly expanding its scope to include research, exhibitions, education, and publications.

한국의 전통 소재 및 공예 기법에 현대 디자인을

접목한 ‘ 2015 전반기 공예디자인 상품개발

사업’은 심사 과정에서부터 상품성을 고려하여

Products developed as part of the First Half of 2015 Craft & Design Product Development Project combines Korean traditional materials and crafts techniques with contemporary design. Right from the judging stage, products with a higher level of marketability are singled out. Participating designers come up with a wide range of public -friendly products only after carrying out extensive research alongside the advisory panel and making all necessary changes to their pieces.

공예디자인 상품개발 과정

Development of Craft & Design Products

‘ 2015 전반기 공예디자인 상품개발 사업’ 은

The First Half of 2015 Craft & Design Product Development Project invited crafts and design experts to use Korean traditional materials and crafts techniques to develop craft design products. Experts in design, distribution, and product development served as judges for this project and two rounds of judging were subsequently held. In total, 20 products were chosen by evaluating artists’ portfolios during this first round of judging. In the second round, judges whittled this number down to 11 products after evaluating the actual products themselves.

공예 · 디자인 관련 분야 종사자를 대상으로 한국 전통 소재 및 공예 기법을 활용한 공예디자인 상품을 개발하였습니다. 디자인, 유통, 상품개발 등 각 분야의 전문가를 심사위원으로 선정하여 두 차례에 거쳐 심사를 진행하였는데, 1차 포트폴리오 심사로 20개의 상품을 선정하고 2차 실물상품 평가로 최종 11개의 상품이 선정되었습니다. 최종 상품으로 선정된 참가자들은 ‘ 2015 전반기 공예디자인 상품개발 사업’의 프로그램 취지에 따라 자문위원과 4회에 거쳐 워크숍을 진행하였고, 1차 워크숍에서는 국내외 공예디자인의 시장 규모와 진출 전략 파악 및 상품 경쟁력을 키워나갔습니다. 2 · 3차 워크숍에서는 상품의 완성도를 높이고 4차 워크숍에서는 포장과 상품가격 등 협의를 통해서 다방면의 경쟁력을 높이고자 노력하였습니다. ‘ 2015 하반기 공예디자인 상품개발 사업’에서

많은 노력과 고심 끝에 만들어진 공예디자인 상품이 좋은 반응을 얻고, 나아가 공예 산업 2 3

발전에 기여할 수 있기를 바랍니다.

Later, designers of the final 11 products each held four workshops with members of the advisory panel in the spirit of the Craft & Design Product Development Program. During the first workshop, participants identified the size of the craft design market in Korea and overseas. They also made efforts to raise the level of product competitiveness. During the second and third workshops, they improved the completeness of the products, while in the fourth workshop they tried to strengthen competitiveness in many aspects after consultations regarding other elements, such as packaging and pricing. It is our sincere hope that craft design products made as part of the First Half of 2015 Craft & Design Product Development Project receive recognition and further contribute to the development of the Korean crafts industry.

플래닛츠는 모두 일곱 개의 모양에

두 가지 사이즈로 제작된 캔들 홀더이다.

순도 높은 백색의 흙으로 물레를 찬 후

예리한 칼로 깨끗하게 깎아 모양을 다듬고,

그 위에 금으로 칠을 한 후 세 번의

소성을 거쳐 만들었다. 일곱 개의 서로

다른 행성들은 사용자의 곁에서 저마다의

이름으로 빛나지만, 여러 개를 자유롭게

쌓아 올리며 다양한 분위기를 만들 수도

있다. 취향대로 연출하며 즐거운 경험의

Candlelit Planets Candlelit Planets is a candle holder series made in two different sizes, with seven shapes included in each series. After pure white clay is shaped using a pottery turning wheel, the shapes are precisely trimmed with a razor- sharp knife. They are then painted in gold and before going through a three - fold burning process. The seven Planets—each one with a different name—shine brilliantly. You can even pile them up in various ways. The Candlelit Planets are also high-quality interior props, as they easily fit individual tastes.

아리아 티컵 ‘ 네잎꽃’을 모티브로 개발한 티컵은 이중

용기가 이중으로 되어 있어 뜨거운 물에도

열전도가 낮고 보온 효과가 높은 기능성

티컵이다. 또한 내부의 형태가 네잎꽃의

모양을 띠고 있어 차를 마시는 이에게 미적

감성을 준다.

9 Aria Teacup The four-leaf teacup is characterized by the fact that it is made in a doublewalled structure. This makes it functional, with low-heat conductivity and a high-heat effect. With the inside shaped like a four-petal flower, the design also imparts a very emotional feeling on users who enjoy tea.

L ATURE는 레이스( lace)와 질감( texture)의

합성어로 레이스를 이용한 옻칠기의

브랜드명이다. 또한 NATURE( 자연)의

연상을 유도하여 자연의 소재인 옻칠을

은유적으로 표현한 것이기도 하다.

L ATURE의 제품은 옻칠 분야에서는 거의

사용하지 않았던 레이스에 작가의 주요

탐구 대상인 색(色) 을 결합하여 새로운

질감으로 선보인 옻칠기이다. 2012년부터

시작되어 현재까지 이어지고 있는 레이스에

대한 연구는 확장 가능한 소재의 활용을

통해 옻칠은 곧 전통이라는 고정관념에서

벗어나고자 하는 시도이다.

LATURE (Lace Texture) LATURE combines the words ‘lace’ and ‘texture,’ a brand name for ottchil products, while bringing to mind nature and metaphorically expressing ottchil, a natural material. LATURE products include lace (a slightly odd material for ottchil) and combine it with colors (the artist’s major field of exploration), creating a new texture in the process are the unique ottchil products that are created in the new texture process. They are combined with lace, which have been hardly used for ottchil products, with a color concept. The brand’s study on lace has been going on since 2012 in an attempt to steer clear of the stereotype that ottchil is nothing but a traditional material by expanding its scope.

각기 다른 색상의 백자 소지가 반복적으로

적층되며 조화로운 배색을 보여주는 컵과

볼 시리즈이다. 소성 후에 오랜 시간

이루어지는 표면의 연마작업은 지난한 작업

뒤에 견고해지고 빛나는 표면을 일궈내어

사용자에게 부드럽고 풍부한 감촉을

선사한다. 방법적으로 슬립캐스팅 기법을

활용하되 각각의 색 층이 갖는 면적과 비율,

순서 등을 달리하여 변형의 다양성을

확보하고자 했다. 특히 색에 있어서 절제된

색상들을 선택한 것은 부드러움을 더할

뿐만 아니라 서로 다른 색의 소지를

수평으로 켜켜이 쌓아올리는 과정 속에서

각각의 층들이 서로 긴밀하게 연결되어

보다 풍부한 배색을 만들어내기 때문이다.

Composition Cup & Bowl set This cup and bowl series captures the harmony behind the color combination of different colors, specifically white ceramic materials that are repeatedly layered. Through long hours of grinding (after burning), the cups and bowls become solid, shiny surfaces, allowing users to feel its smooth, rich texture. By adopting the slip casting method, the artist wanted to ensure variety by applying different areas, ratios, and orders for color layers when making each product. With the controlled colors, they were selected because they display a richer color combination, as they are more closely connected when layered horizontally. The colors also add softness to the series.

봄에게서 나에게 , 나에게서 너에게

매일 같은 일상에서 별 것 아닌 작은 물건

하나가 봄의 여행을 선사한다. 색색의

끈으로 전해지는 봄날. 유연하지만

생기발랄한 봄날의 에너지를 담은 한 줄의

끈은 사용자의 개성과 용도에 따라 다양한

표정으로 무한 변신한다. 한 줄의 끈이

불러 올 즐거운 놀이와 유쾌한 마술. 그것은

작가가 상품을 통해 사용자에게 주고자

하는 바람이기도 하다.

창호반

한옥의 창호에서 보이는 구조적 아름다움에서

영감을 얻어 만든 나무 쟁반이다. 전통적인

꽃살창 무늬가 지닌 아름다움을 일상에서

사용하는 쟁반에 실크스크린 방식으로

프린트하였다. 나무의 결과 어우러지는 전통

문양을 현대적인 제작방식 안에서 표현하고자

한 것은 각 소재와 요소가 가진 전통적

특징을 현대적 관점에서 다시 생각하고자 한

디자이너의 의도이다. 창호반은 4인용, 2인용,

1인용 등으로 사이즈의 축소 및 확장도

가능한 제품이다.

Changho Ban This wood tray was inspired by the structural beauty of the windows and doors in hanok ( traditional Korean house). The beauty of the traditional flower patterns was printed upon an everyday tray using the silk screen method. The designer tried to express a traditional design that is harmonized with the grain of the wood using a modern production method. This shows the designer’s intention to reconsider the traditional characteristics of each material and element from a modern perspective. Changho Ban’s size can be reduced or expanded to meet any user’s need (e.g. for 1, 2 or 4 users).

한국의 전통 문양을 재해석하고 투각 기법을

활용해 해학적으로 표현하였다. 각각의

잔마다 우리 전통 안에서 상징물로 여겨져

왔던 동물들을 적용하여 마시는 사람으로

하여금 의미부여를 할 수 있도록 제작하였다.

용은 장수나 행복 따위의 좋은 일을

상징하는 길상과 잡귀를 물리치는 벽사를

의미한다. 물고기는 부귀와 유여(여유로움) 를

뜻하며 오리는 부부의 화합과 장원급제

등의 소원성취에 대한 바람을 담고 있다.

Carving cup (Dragon: Lucky cup, Fish: Wealth cup, Duck: harmony cup) Traditional Korean patterns were reinterpreted and expressed humorously using the openwork method. Animals are a traditional symbol in Korea and have been applied to each cup so that users can find some meaning in them. Dragons mean luck, longevity, happiness and drive away evil spirits. Fish mean wealth and honor as well as leeway, while ducks symbolize the harmony of husband and wife as well as the hope of realizing one’s wishes.

모시조각은 한국의 여러 곳을 여행하면서

즐거웠던 순간과 순간을 마치 조각보를

잇듯이 퍼즐을 맞추며 기억을 되새겨보는

문화상품이다. 한국의 대표적인 전통 섬유인

천연 염색된 모시 조각을 만지는 동안

한국의 아름다움을 손끝에서 느낄 수도

스토리 박스는 일상에서 소소하게 얻을 수

있는 작은 감성과 휴식을 위해 제작되었다.

동그란 오르골 위에 놓인 작은 인형들이

전달하는 상황은 오르골에서 흘러나오는

음악과 함께 어우러져 하나의 이야기를

만든다. 크리스마스, 결혼기념일 등 특별한

날을 위해 제작되는 제품들은 고유번호를

기입하여 주문 제작의 형식으로도 출시할

예정이다.

1 Story Box Story Box was made to provide users with long-lasting memories to reflect upon from their everyday lives. The small dolls on the rounded music box are harmonized with music from the music box and create a story. Products made for special days like Christmas and wedding anniversaries are also custom-made with an identification number on each.
