Introducing CareFlex & the benefits of specialist seating

Specialist seating can be critical to optimum recovery following a brain or spinal injury. CareFlex are here to support individuals, families, carers and professionals from assessment through to prescription and review.

When an individual’s ability to achieve good sitting posture is affected it can have a significant impact on their quality of life. Specialist seating aims to allow individuals, who might otherwise have difficulty, to achieve their optimum sitting posture to sit out comfortably, reduce the risk of body distortion, enhance physiological function, manage pressure injury risk, interact with their environment, and participate in activities of daily living.

WHO ARE CAREFLEX? LUCY’S STORY

Since 1995 CareFlex has been collaborating with Health & Social Care Professionals to develop innovative and effective specialist seating; we understand the importance of balancing the four key objectives (Comfort, Function, Postural Management and Pressure Care Management) for optimum seated posture with a sound holistic approach. We have confidence and pride in our specialist seating and the positive impact we know it can have on individuals’ lives.

We have and continue to submit our products for independent testing and evaluation, including pressure mapping and published clinical research to enable customers to reason and justify their provision. Lucy experienced a traumatic brain injury as a teenager, resulting in limited active movement, hypertonicity, contractures, pelvic instability, and unequal loading of tissues. Lucy utilised her wheelchair for all activities of daily living and had no alternative seating. She required a specialist seating system to aid postural stability, encourage normal movement and promote engagement in daily life. INTRODUCING THE SMARTSEATPRO II

The SmartSeatPro II is a highly adjustable modular seating system that takes specialist seating to the next level for those with complex postural management and pressure care needs. It has been designed to provide maximum adaptability to optimise posture, function and comfort for individuals in all health and care environments.

Tilt-in-Space to aid pelvic stability and achieve pressure redistribution without affecting the critical angles for sitting. Back angle recline to promote comfort, manage generalised weakness and allow for periods of rest for energy conservation. A multi-segmental back support that can accommodate, or correct where possible, any scoliosis and/or rotation through the spine and pelvis, to promote trunk alignment and physiological function. LONG-TERM SUPPORT

CareFlex is more than a manufacturer; we pride ourselves on our white glove service to offer customers long-term support to ensure individuals are supported through their recovery and beyond.

We offer face-to-face and virtual training events developed by Rebecca

Dunstall, our Clinical Specialist, to improve competence and confidence with assessing, prescribing and using specialist seating through a combination of theory and practical hands-on sessions.

We also take our responsibility as a specialist seating provider seriously and recognise that clinical education is the key to appropriate and successful seating as part of the 24-hour postural management and pressure care programme. Rebecca has also developed our Pocket Book and Encyclopedia of Specialist Seating, both designed to help professionals navigate this topic and give them the knowledge needed to advocate on behalf of those who need them. ■
