NOT happy! Lorandia Sims 3. The name is synonymous with quality high fashion Sims custom content. The site is a one stop shop, with literally everything for your Sims fashion needs from accessories to shoes, hosiery, jewelry, even purses nails and belts. And quality? There are a handful of creators you think of who are always on and always HAWT. Lorandia Sims 3 leads the list. Even better, not too long ago they released their pay content for free download and made the site 100% free.

LS3 actually features a talented team of creators. Lore and Icia agreed to speak with us this issue, and I for one can’t wait to find out what they have to say...

Please tell us a little about yourself and your team of creators?

Lore: First I must say is a pleasure for me to give this interview for SF. I love your magazine and is always a happiness to read a new issue.

We are four creators at LorandiaSims3; me, Lore 33 years old, professional engineer and mother of two kids - 11 and 3 years old, my husband Mirel 37 years old, also an engineer and the very talented Saliwa and Icia who have agreed to join us at LorandiaSims3 and I’m so happy for this.

Icia: My name is Patricia, I’m 23 years old and proximately I will be graduate as a Biotechnology Engineer. Sims are my world and my fun so the day that Lorandia ask me to join her team was an awesome and shocked surprise. I couldn’t believe it!

The first thing I always notice when I’m at your site is the level of detail in your creations.

It’s simply beautiful work and very well made regardless of what type of item (accessories, Clothing patterns etc) it is. How do you manage to keep the quality so high but still be so prolific?

Lore: This was one of the things I wanted from the beginning, but it came with our evolution as artists and after we invested a lot of time studying and creating custom content for Sims 3. Now, unfortunately, time does not allow me to create as much because I started my own business this year... But the quality is the first thing which I want from a creation, and I’m pleased when people notice and appreciate that. I always tried to do my best to preserve and to improve it.

I see that you use Delphy’s CAS Unitool for textures and TSR Workshop for patterns but what do you use for meshing?

Lore: I used Delphy’s CAS Unitool and I still use it sometimes, but now I work with TSR Workshop for most projects not only for patterns . For meshes I am using Rhino 3D, Wings 3D and Milkshape of course.

How long does it take you to create a set? Do you have any tips for aspiring Custom content creators?

Lore: Hmmm....Not exactly tips, but my advice is to start with simple projects and not with complicated clothing textures or brand clothing -where it is very easy to get ridiculous using big logos, stencils- and to continue to create no matter how difficult it may seem. The results will appear as joys. Also research, testing and to be your own toughest critic.

Icia: My tip is to be consistent, lots of practice and research. Try to read and learn by yourself, On the Internet you can find whatever you need to create. Just believe in your skills and your creativity. I take this opportunity to thank Lore.

Some time ago I was a ordinary creator and she “saw” me in the crowd. She helped me with my mistakes and insecurities.

One of the other things I notice that’s different about Lorandia Sims is that you do have a team of creators. I don’t see that too often outside of a blog or a forum. How did you put that together?

Lore: Yes indeed, as I said, we are four creators at LorandiaSims3; Me, my husband Mirel, Saliwa and Icia. I was fascinated by Saliwa’s chic and sexy unique style and Icia’s fresh and youthful style.... I contacted them and I was lucky that they agreed to post at LorandiaSims3.

Icia: I’m happy to be part of the team

Tell me a little about the challenges of managing your own site. Why do you do it? And what are the joys?

Lore: It was a difficult stage when I started. I knew nothing about how to manage a site ... I started with the patterns and Sims models which at the time was the only custom content items that could be done for Sims.

After that, with the help of a very good friend of mine -experienced in clothes designing for sims 2 - and when was possible because of Delphy’s Cas Unitool, I start to create clothes. At that time it seemed impossible to create clothes, everything seemed so difficult. Many nights lost and many projects abandoned followed before our creations could be known and appreciated.

The joys? As I wrote on my TSR Lorandia minisite “Your comments - my happiness, your appreciation - my oxygen, your downloads - my motivation” Do you solicit new creators? If someone were interested in joining the creative team at Lorandia Sims, how could they go about it?

Lore: Why not ? If anyone is interested, they can contact us by e-mail. There are so many talented artists who can join our team.

Kudos on making your site 100% free. I know that isn’t always easy to manage. Do you still find that people donate even though they aren’t buying exclusive items any longer?

Lore: Hmmm....Not exactly tips, but my advice iLore: We made this decision so that everyone could enjoy our creations. It is not easy -there are many expenses- but we still have some donors and on this occasion I would like to thank them for helping us to maintain the site.

What kinds of things can we expect in the future from Lorandia Sims? Also what would you like to see more of in the future from The Sims and the community as a whole?

Lore: We have many plans, many projects ... new meshes, a new Spring/Summer Collection, jewelry and accessories... only time is our enemy. About the community, I would like to see more unity and less cruelty. We all want the same thing, a better Sims Icia: Let people show their talents and don’t be so cruel with new creators. Constructive criticism is more helpful, cruelty is unnecessary.

Slipslop Slipslop started creating Sims of characters from games such as Vampire the Masquerade: Blood lines and Devil May Cry (left). They are frankly gorgeous as is, but if you strip away the costumes, the Sims themselves have beautiful facial structure and fit well in any game. If you check our credits from previous issues you will find that the Sims of Slipslop turn up quite often in the pages of our mag in many high fashion scenarios. We are very pleased that Slipslop was kind enough to agree to be the focus of our first Model Creator Spotlight. Enjoy!

ASM: Well first off thanks for doing this.

I really am a HUGE fan of your Sims. Let’s start with the basics. Tell us a bit about yourself.

S: My name is Mike, I’m 25 and I am from Austria. I work at a hardware shop in town and the Simming hobby is something I do in my free time, because I love detailed customization in games. I started off right when Sims 3 came out. By the time I was playing Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines, it’s an action RPG. This was kind of the first motivation to start off with creating Sims.

ASM: I’ve played it. Loved it! I thought the characters and the story were so amazing... I first noticed your Sims because of your VtMB Sims.

S: Yeah, I basically can say thank you to this game because it was the one which got me into Simming. I got really involved and also gathered a lot of experience with it. It’s

funny to look back on your first creations.

For instance, my Jeanette Voerman. By the time I created her I thought it looked right, but when I finished version 2 I could definitely see a vast improvement and the first version looked like an alien. LOL ASM: : What are the limitations you find in bringing some of these characters to a sometimes more limited customization format like the Sims? It must be challenging to convey a Sim like Dante from Devil May Cry in... well... the Sims.

S: Yes after my experience, some faces are very very difficult to create. But the major thing is probably the cartoony look in Sims 3. You need to capture the essence of the character.

Sometimes when you try a game character or celebrity, the Sims 3 engine has troubles with some facial structure or they look kind of odd.

ASM: But, your Sims so have such detail, and their features are so crisp and life like. No puddings there. Do you have any creation tips for other Sims makers?

S: Oh yes I can give some good advice. First you can practice with real pictures. Take a picture of a person you like the look and start creating. You just need to get a feeling for the placement of the facial features.

Make use of the available mods. Some people say you can create Sims without CC, but I think you need to use everything useful you can get.

Things like slider hacks, the right clothes for the characters, and most importantly the right skintone, eye replacement and makeup. Just use everything you can. It will give you way more options and help you move away from the standard pudding look; big nose, big eyes and overall undefined face.

If you create Sims you need to be very selfcritiquing. You say to yourself it looks like the character you want to make. But the more often you look at it you always find something off, you overlooked.

And you need to experiment. When I look at my Sim bin, about 30% of the Sims there are unfinished and old prototypes.

ASM: Only 30%?!? You just described half my bin! *laughs* S: The good thing is when you create more Sims you also have more bases to start from. But with creating Sims it’s a matter of taste. If you plan to upload Sims, you have to think what people would find cool, or nice. Mod the Sims has also helped me a lot to improve. Because the quality standards there are quite high. I will admit I got rejected quite a few times at the start. But I can remember with every rejection a small lamp blinked in my head. It kind of opened my eyes where my mistakes were.

That’s why I stick to MTS. ASM: They seem very helpful at MTS. Is it easy to get feedback there? To help you improve I mean...

S: Yes there are many helpful people there. I used the creators forum at the start to get feedback and new ideas. It’s absolutely no shame to use the forum, and personally I think it’s great for a head start. At the end of the day though it is you who needs to finish the Sim, and it doesn’t get you forward if you let the forums users do your work.

If you get better you should definitely work without it, so you can develop the “eye” for simming.

ASM: They seem very helpful at MTS. Is it easy to get feedback I can see that you dabble in building

in building lots occasionally. I really enjoy the “mini-games” you put in. Do you plan to continue building?

S: Oh yes I often thought about it. But I don’t have any add-ons, so I thought I don’t have many possibilities. I can remember I built a lot of houses in Sims 2, but only a few in Sims 3 so far.

ASM: Really?!?! Wow... I’m an expansion pack fiend. Why just base?

S: I’m not a fan of EA’s add-on policy. You pay 30 bucks for a few items and a few gameplay enhancements. I always focused on creating unique characters, and I found the base game is more than enough for this task. With all the mods and CC available you have all the tools you need.

ASM: Are there any mods (sliders too) you recommend?

S: I can list the mods which influenced me the most. First of all, awesomemod, because it is... awesome. Slider hack/useful options all you need.

Then of course, the sliders. There are a few packs available. The most useful ones were by Ahmad, aka “bella3lek4.” Those were absolutely genius, and I think made a big impact to Sim creation.

But I always list all the mods I use in every of my uploads. And I also try to find new useful mods which I add to my profile, like alternative slider hacks or other useful mods, like the Mastercontroller by twallan.

ASM: : Okay... we almost there... let’s see....do you have any projects coming up that we should look out for?

S: Projects are difficult to tell, I don’t have too much time for creation. But I always like to deliver quality. And don’t like to rush things, also an important rule for Sim creation. I’ll probably do a few more custom female and male Sims. And then... I’ll probably return to the VtMB Sims, my roots.

ASM: : I can’t wait to see! Is there anything you’d like to see more of in the community and the game in general in the future?

S: Hmm difficult question… First, I wish that the talented mod and CC designers never stop what they do. I also use my uploads to show off nice CC creations on my Sims, so I give a little back. And that MTS would also feature purely custom Sims once in a while, because currently only celebrity or game characters seem to get featured as it’s considered the most work and skill requirement.

ASM: Thank you so much for taking the time to do this. Before I let you go, is there anything you like to leave us with?

S: First thank you for giving me the opportunity to have an interview for THE Sims magazine. Second, if you are new to Sim creation stay frosty and keep practicing. Everyone can be good!

And of course thanks for the many Sims downloads from all the people. *waves to the whole Sims community* Some Sims I made were really downloaded very often, and it made me feel like I contributed something nice to the community, it’s good to share. And lastly I thank all the creators out there who also share their stuff; it’s always nice to see so much talent and creativity. That would be it :)

Sun and Sand that is. But its more than the perfect suit. Your Sim needs to be able to go from the beach to the boardwalk in supreme eye-grabbing style. These Beach finds are a must for any Fashionista with Summer on her mind.

Cover-ups aren’t boring towel robes anymore. A soft bo-ho tunic is a “must have” this season. It’s the eternal essence of beach chic and goes from day to night without a pause. Spring is that wonderful time of year when everything feels fresh, new and bright. This season makeup trends are as bright as spring sunshine. Vibrant colors are back in a big way and your Sims makeup bag should be packed with ripe and juicy shades for eyes, cheeks and lips. (Think pinks, blues and purples, just to name a few!)

Metallic gold will also have a starring role. If you’re a little anxious about the idea of ditching those neutral tones, read on for other ways you can usher in Spring by putting your Sim’s best -- and freshest -- face forward.

Spring and summer bring vibrancy to lids that has not been seen in some time.

Intense lids are perfect for this year’s honeysuckle pink and other brights.

Wear these vivid colors without a liner. If you must use eyeliner, try a line of white.

Lashes should be black.

Friends may forget what you wore to their party, but they won’t forget your lips. This season, lip color is bright– Gerbera daisy bright. Choose from a vibrant palette of pinks, reds, and oranges. Be sure to coordinate lip and eye color and don’t forget these colors should compliment your Sim’s wardrobe.

Little did she know during those years of honing her acting craft that she would one day be a celebrity in her own right. Now, not only will she have that opportunity to live the dream , the dream has grown. She has set her sights high and plans to go right to the top and purchase a penthouse.

Scanning many brochures for available properties, the one that struck her eye was the Manhattan Sunrise built by Smokvica. She immediately fell in love with this building. It was situated near the bustling theatre district a definite plus! If what she was seeing in the brochure was truly what the property offered she wanted to jump on the opportunity to purchase there.

She had her “people” set up a meeting and a walk thru with one of their “people” and quicker than a falling star leaves the galaxy she was phoning her lawyers to make the purchase.

It was things like experiencing the tall and spectacular city views from that height, but also little things like being able to get in a quick morning workout in the in-house fitness center or board the subway at the nearby station for a fast and hassle-free trips to the airport or about town, that influenced her to make her decision so quickly. Speaking with current tenants in the Manhattan Irina loved the feedback. “It’s an extraordinarily convenient place to live,” says Don Lothario, a noted physician who lives in the building. “I wouldn’t want to go back to a house and yard,” says Dr. Lothario. “I never realized how much time is spent in maintaining a home… now on Sunday afternoon, I can sit and read a book if I want instead of doing maintenance.” Dina and Nina Caliente shared with her how much they enjoy the conveniences of the richly appointed high-speed elevator, the private secure-storage, a newspaper delivered daily that alerts you to the hotspots in town for any given night, along with the many referrals for housekeepers, repairmen. Then of course the knowledgeable and discreet concierge with many entertainment and restaurant recommendations.

With a location close to shopping, parks, and restaurants that allow you to dine under the stars Irina knew this was the ideal situation for her.

The penthouse unit took her breath away. It offered her a spectacular open dining area overlooking the cityscape with ample room to entertain a sizable crowd, or the pleasure of an intimate dinner for two. With its sturdy brick walled construction and spacious rooms she had plenty of room to give it that “loft� overlooking the city feel. Yet, at the same time it had a quiet elegance in its personality that demanded respect. The bedroom area was built for a star with its majestic and inviting master bath in inlaid wood tones. The kitchen was a cooks dream, with plenty of workspace and an open airy feel. Not that she would be cooking much herself, but she wanted a more than adequate set up for any caterers she would invite in.

Her realtor pointed out that Smokvica is one of the most trusted names in building design, and has been a favorite among the Sims3 community in mid-town Manhattan for years. She was the top in her field at the Sim3 Home Sweet Home design firm. With her strong sense of style and design, not only would Irina be able to purchase the penthouse of her dreams, the penthouse would be unfurnished and designer ready so she could truly customize each of the rooms to her individual taste.

The Manhattan Sunrise also offered an unspoken sense of security as Irina knew they only sell to the discerning buyer. Armed with the knowledge that she would obtain it at a fair price she made that call to her lawyers. That was only two weeks ago. Now that the ink has dried, all her belonging have been moved in and she is ready to spend time enjoying her home with a view from the top of the city!
