FROM THE DIRECTOR’S DESK Welcome to another great year with Campus Recreation – your ticket to many of the fantastic things you are looking for in your SFA experience. Fun, teamwork, competition, exercise, health, wellness, good times, and great friends are all waiting for you in one of our many programs or facilities. Take advantage of this opportunity to join an exercise class, go on a trip, compete with a team, workout, swim, play, or even get a job with us. Campus Recreation offers something for everyone! We are excited to celebrate our four year anniversary in the new Recreation Center and look forward to serving you this semester. We have an outstanding array of programs scheduled for you so please read through the program guide and make note of the times, days, and deadlines for signing up for the things you have an interest in. As always we have plenty to do in the building through open recreation that does not require you to sign up for anything, but I encourage you to seek out and try one of our many wonderful programs also. At Campus Recreation, we offer programs and services that give you the opportunity to enhance your life through seven dimensions: physically, emotionally, intellectually, socio-culturally, environmentally, spiritually, and career/financially. Your Ticket To: RELAXATION Let go of all your tension through the aquatics program at Campus Rec. There’s nothing more relaxing than lounging in the 270-foot lazy river or playing volleyball in the pool with your friends! Come to the pool to melt away your stress and find a sense of calm and relaxation. Aquatics offers various programming including swim lessons, lifeguard certification courses, and recreational activities. A large capacity spa, diving well, lap lanes, and an open recreation area are available for all to enjoy!

PRIVATE SWIM LESSONS Private swim lessons are a great way for anyone of any swimming ability to work in a one-on-one environment. Instructors are all certified Water Safety Instructors by the American Red Cross Association and will apply American Red Cross lesson plans to each session. GROUP SWIM LESSONS Group swim lessons are a great way for children to learn how to swim or to develop their current swimming abilities. Group swim accommodates a variety of ages starting at six months. All swim lessons are taught by an American Red Cross certified Water Safety Instructor. Swim lessons are divided into six levels: swim levels one through five and a level for parents/tots. After a child has completed all six levels, they will receive a book to take home and practice their skills. Parents are required to remain at the pool for the duration of the lesson. CARDIO FLOOR AND WEIGHT ROOM The cardio floor and weight room has a combined total of 12,000 square feet of fitness space. Within this space there are various types of cardiovascular equipment including treadmills, ellipticals, steppers, stationary bikes and ergometers. Most cardio pieces are equipped with a personal TV and audio unit that houses 12 XM Radio channels. The weight room equipment includes free weights, plate loaded and selectorized machines, that enable all users to enjoy a great workout. Among the many choices in cardio and weight equipment, there are stretching machines and free movement space. In such spaces, there are stretching mats, a plyobounder, medicine balls, and resist-a-balls for added variety and resistance.


WHERE EVERY SHAPE FITS: GROUP EXERCISE CLASSes Our Group Exercise Program offers a variety of classes that range in intensity and complexity. Each of the many classes are FREE for SFA students, members and guests. All classes are located at the Student Recreation Center and require an active SFA identification card. To enter into a class, participants must pick up a Jax Pass at the Welcome Desk of the Student Recreation Center. Passes are distributed starting one hour before the class begins.

All participants who wish to enter a class must wear appropriate workout attire with nonmarking soled athletic shoes. Each participant must hand the instructor their Jax Pass as they enter the class to reserve their spot in the class. No one will be admitted into a class after the class has begun. Equipment and mats will be provided for each class. Classes may be cancelled at the discretion of the Campus Recreation staff. Schedule and descriptions for Group X classes are available in the Student Recreation Center and online at www.sfasu.edu/campusrec.

Your Ticket To: Well-being The Wellness Program offers events and services in conjunction with the Fitness Program to further help members further their well-being. Wellness events such as the Wellness Fair and other services are available to increase awareness about health topics. The Wellness Service Center houses personal training, massage therapy and nutritional services.

Take advantage of your free time away from studies and enjoy some friendly competition! Whether it’s a major team sport, minor sport league, or individual/dual event, the Intramural Sports program has something suited for your interests. You might even win THE IMS Champion T-shirt to sport around campus displaying your accomplishment!

Your captain will need to come to the registration table in the Recreation Center during the registration period and register and pay for the team. After payment is confirmed in the Campus Recreation office, come back to registration table and we will help guide you through creating your team. Create/Log-in to your IMLeagues account at the registration table. Click the Join Team button at the top of your user homepage. Choose your league (Men’s, Men’s Comp, Men’s Rec, Women’s, Co-Rec, Elite). Choose your division (day and time, division number, etc). You can search for your team name under the sport.

Forfeiting a game will result in a $10 fee which must be paid to be reinstated into the league. Failure to pay fee by next game will result in removal from the league.


ELIGIBILITY All SFA undergraduate and graduate students taking a minimum of two lecture class or six (6) hours at Stephen F. Austin as well as all full-time faculty/staff and active Campus Recreation members are eligible to participate in any and all intramural sports activities and events provided they present a valid SFA ID. Active Campus Recreation members are not allowed to participate in specialty leagues or with Greek teams. Alumni of the University are not permitted to participate in Intramural Sports unless they are taking graduate level courses or are full time faculty/staff for the University. How to create an IMleagues account To join on intramural sports teams, participants will need to create a free account on IMLeagues, www.imleagues.com. Captains will now be able to create their teams online, manager rosters, access league information, get instant and accurate schedules, scout opponents, and more. Participants will now be able to get information any time about their intramural games, upcoming events and can track their history making careers. Creating your SFA IMS Profile on IMLeagues 1. Go to www.sfasu.edu/campusrec. 2. Click on the Intramural Sports tab on the left side bar. 3. Click on the IMLeagues logo and create your Imleagues account for free. You will have to enter: • Legal name as shown on your SFA ID • Your SFA @titan.sfasu.edu or your @sfasu.edu account • Classification (freshman-grad student, fac/staff) and your graduation date • Birthday • Gender 4. Watch advertisement at bottom for security code to complete registration. All other information is optional, but we highly recommend you put your contact information and cell number so you can receive instant updates. You will receive an email from IMLeagues within five minutes confirming your registration. You must confirm your account activation.

Making the commitment to a team will ensure positive friendships and frequent physical activity. Clubs vary from judo and rodeo to women’s volleyball. With activities this diverse, you’ll be sure to find something worth your while. You don’t have to be an expert as long as you know how to have fun!

JOIN A SPORT CLUB To join a sport club team, you only need to have interest. If you are interested in a particular club, you can contact the Sport Club Office at 468-1434. Each club will hold organizational meetings at the beginning of each semester as well as represent their clubs at orientations and student organization fairs. Once you have expressed your interest to the club officers, it is time to play.

• Internships are open to all students attending SFASU who have completed their sophomore year and who have earned 60 credits. If a student does not have a minimum of 60 credits, the committee must review the application and approve the internship or practicum. • A student must have a GPA of 2.0 and must be in good academic standing with the university.

• Students seeking their own internships must discuss their proposals with the appropriate Campus Recreation staff member and they must have approval from the academic department. • Fill out all forms and return them to Janice Casper. All programs will not be offering internships and practicums every semester. Needs are addressed on a semester basis. A learning contract will be set up between the student and supervisor for the duration of the internship and practicum. Internship and practicum needs are flexible and adaptable to meet the needs of the student. All majors are welcome!

Your Ticket To: service At the heart of the facility and every program area is the goal of providing YOU with every opportunity to get involved. This is YOUR ticket to Campus Recreation. You can hit the weights or elliptical on the cardio floor, play a pick-up game in the HPE or Rec Center gym, relax in the lazy river, get a massage at the Wellness Service Center, or let the staff at the Outdoor Center help you plan an adventurous weekend away. Later, swim some laps in the Indoor Pool, or join a sport club and head to practice. Finish out your week at the Intramural Fields to play some ultimate frisbee or flag football. Take advantage of this all-access pass to enhance YOUR SFA EXPERIENCE.

FIND THE PERSON IN THE RED SHIRT The Operations Manager is an integral part of Campus Recreation’s daily activities. Operation Managers oversee all program areas and activities and supervise the staff. Anytime one of our activity areas is functioning, an OM will be on duty. The Operations Managers are thoroughly trained to assist with any situation that could arise and have the abilities to ensure our patrons are always in a safe and welcoming environment! The Operations Managers are also First Aid and CPR certified to act as a first responder to any medical emergency.

PARTICIPANT POLICIES FOR CAMPUS RECREATION ACTIVITY AREAS • •

An SFA I.D. is required to access activity areas. In the Student Recreation Center, members will present their I.D. to be swiped at the Welcome Desk. The magnetic strip on the back of the I.D. will allow employees to verify the student is actively enrolled and the student is cleared to enter. In the HPE Complex, students are to show validated SFA I.D., which is indicated by a semester validation sticker. When entering the HPE Complex, students will receive a shoe tag which must be worn at all times while in activity areas in the HPE. Appropriate workout attire is required in activity areas.

Food and gum are prohibited in activity areas. Only beverages in a sealable plastic container are allowed. Alcohol, drugs and tobacco products are strictly prohibited. Backpacks and bags must be stored in lockers. Be courteous and respectful of others. Photography and videography are prohibited without approval. Bikes, skateboards and inline skates are prohibited. Pets are prohibited, which the exception of service animals.

Your Ticket To: service The Student Recreation Center not only caters to SFA students, but the SFA community as well. Whether you are SFA Faculty/Staff, SFA Alumni, or spouse, we have membership options for you. Check out the information listed or stop by the Student Recreation Center Administration Office for more details.

MEMBER SERVICES • You can purchase a membership for as little as one month or as many months at a time as you wish. Membership costs must be paid in full when signing up, unless signed up for payroll deduction. • Any member who chooses to cancel their membership is entitled to a refund of the remaining months left on their membership. To receive a $15 reimbursement for the month, you must cancel on/before the 15th of that month. Any cancellations after the 15th of the month will not be reimbursed for that month. All cancellations must be made in writing. • Payroll deduction is only available for employees (and their families) who receive a paycheck from SFA all 12 months of the year. Your paycheck will be deducted on a monthly basis until you terminate your membership. Payroll deduction cancellations must occur before the last week of the month to avoid a deduction for the next month.

• Members who are paying through payroll deduction must pay their first month up front. After the first month, payments for membership will be taken directly from their paychecks. The first month payment will be $30 until after the 15th of each month, where it will be prorated to $15 until the end of the month. • Students taking only online classes have their Student Recreation Center Fee waived by the University; therefore, they must purchase a “Student” membership for access to the Student Recreation Center. Students who enroll in classes but withdraw later from the university will be not be eligible to use the Student Recreation Center.

Although membership prices are broken down by the month, members must pay their full membership cost when signing up for the membership. The only membership eligible for billing monthly are those signed up as a payroll deduction.

BIRTHDAY PARTIES Let Campus Rec host your child’s birthday party! Every party includes one hour of activity and one hour in a party tent as well as a party host, decorations, and a cake.
