NEBOSH INTERNATIONAL GENERAL CERTIFICATE [IGC] IN OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH & SAFETY LEVEL 3 U.K QUALIFICATIONS INDUCTION Prior to the first day of your course, the induction, training, assessment, grading and appeals processes will be explained in full and we will endeavour to answer any queries which may arise. For online training, we will send you an email and assign you to a WhatsApp group, where we will explain how to log into our online training sessions and introduce you to your course tutor. You will be given the schedule for all your IGC training sessions and you will also receive access to our online platform, where you will find all our policies and procedures and a number of resources that will help you complete the course successfully. Once you have logged in and attended your first training session, we will be able to monitor your progress remotely and offer you feedback and advice between training sessions.
HOW DO I PASS THE COURSE? To pass the course you will have to attend the training sessions and complete all the assignments that your Tutor will set. These are “Formative Assessments” that allow your Tutor to see how well you are absorbing the content of the course and let them deliver targeted help and assistance to fill any gaps in your knowledge. Your training will combine practical activities, with interactive online learning materials and subject research to provide you with an interesting and engaging experience. It focuses on key skills which means you can instantly apply the knowledge you gain and add value to your organisation. Assessment is a Two-Step Process: 1. IG1 - An Open Book Examination to assess what you know. This is Scenario-Based and will include a closing interview, where you will be asked questions about your submission. 2. IG2 - A Practical Risk Assessment to assess whether you can apply the knowledge you have gained. Learners will complete a risk assessment and develop an action plan for their workplace this is immediately useful and valuable. Assessments are marked by external examiners appointed by NEBOSH. These examiners are chosen for their experience and expertise to ensure that learners are assessed by the very best in our industry.
RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING [RPL] NEBOSH does not recognise any form of prior learning for this IGC course. The NEBOSH IGC is a standalone qualification. This means that you will not be able to use units from other NEBOSH qualifications against any part of this qualification.
PASS QUALIFICATION GRADE The IGC has two-unit assessments; you must achieve a ‘Pass’ in each unit to be awarded the qualification. You will have five years to complete your qualification. The five-year period starts from the date you passed your first successful unit (we call this the ‘declaration date’). Any unit that is five or more years old will not count towards the qualification and you will need to retake this/these unit(s) if you still want to complete the qualification.
QUALIFICATION GRADING AND ISSUE Your qualification grade is based only on the result from the question paper [Unit IG1]. But you need to achieve a ‘Pass’ in both units [Unit IG1 and IG2] before your certificate can be issued. NEBOSH - 2023 - SAVEFAST FIRE & SAFETY TRAINING L.L.C © | SF/IMS/NLHB/2023/01/00

When you have completed both units, you are normally considered to have completed the whole qualification. NEBOSH will then send your certificate to SaveFast within 40 working days of your final successful unit. NEBOSH will only issue individual Unit certificates on written request. Once Savefast advises you of the result of the second successful unit, you have 20 working days to either: 1. Tell us in writing that you want to re-sit a successful unit to improve your grade; or 2. Submit an Enquiry About a Result (EAR) request; Please see the EAR policy for procedures/enquiries-about-results-ears

RESITTING UNIT[S] You may re-sit a unit assessment if: you achieved a ‘Pass’ in a unit that is five or more years old and you need it to achieve the qualification; you are ‘Referred’ [i.e., don’t Pass]; or want to Retake Unit IG1 to get a Higher Grade [Unit IG2 is ‘Pass’ or ‘Refer’ and does not count towards the qualification grade]. There is no limit to the number of times you can re-sit unit(s) within the five-year period. A refund will not be given if you register to re-sit a unit before an original unit result is known. If your re-sit result is lower than the original mark, you will keep the original mark awarded for the unit. Re-sit marks are not capped.
DEADLINES During the course, you will be expected to meet any deadlines that have been set. For each training session, your Tutor will issue assignments to you. They will indicate what you need to do to pass the assignment and they will also give you a deadline for handing in the assignment. You must hand in your assignments to your Tutor and you will be asked to declare that you have not plagiarised the work and that it is your own. If you are ill and therefore unable to attend a particular session then you must contact your Tutor. Your Tutor will agree on an action plan for you to catch up on any missed sessions and ensure that you are not disadvantaged because of your illness. This process is detailed in the Special Consideration & Reasonable Adjustments Policy, a copy of which is available via our online platform NEBOSH - 2023 - SAVEFAST FIRE & SAFETY TRAINING L.L.C © | SF/IMS/NLHB/2023/01/00

NEBOSH INTERNATIONAL GENERAL CERTIFICATE [IGC] IN OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH & SAFETY LEVEL 3 U.K QUALIFICATIONS ATTENDANCE AND PUNCTUALITY You are expected to attend all of the secessions on your schedule. If you do not attend a lesson(s), you will be responsible for catching up on the work you have missed using the recorded sessions, or you may not be able to pass the course. Sometimes being late means that you have missed some vital piece of information that would help you get a better assignment grade or achieve a clearer understanding of the subject of the session. Repeated failure to attend training sessions will result in follow up by your trainer and the Savefast Admin Team and could result in you being advised against attending the examination at the end of your current schedule, so it is in your best interests to be punctual and to take an active part in the training.
ASSIGNMENTS Assignments may require that you do some research. An indicative reading list is supplied with this course to ensure you have a good starting point for your research and you will also receive NEBOSH approved course workbooks for the IG1 & IG2 Units. The reading list is not exhaustive, and it is a good idea to look for further reading and information and to ask questions from your Tutor if you find any element of the course difficult to understand. When sourcing information from the internet, always be sure that your source is reliable. If you are taking your course with colleagues, you might choose to work together as a group on an assignment during the course. However, never copy word for word information you have found or copy someone else’s work. This is called “PLAGIARISM” and you can fail your final exam for doing this. Your Tutor will show you how to use the information you have found that you want to use. This is called referencing your work. During the IG1, the exam you will be required to reference the sources for your answers. Don’t be tempted to ‘cut and paste’ sections that you have found on the internet. This is also called plagiarism and you can be failed by doing this. Always say the source of this information - where you have found this information. Start to use a bibliography at the end of your assignment that lists all of the sources of your material. Even websites and extracts from web pages can be referenced as part of your bibliography. When you take your exam, you will be asked to sign a statement when you hand in your work saying that this is all your own work and not copied from any source - including the internet. NEBOSH reserves the right to run your work through Plagiarism detection software to see if you have copied work.
A BIT MORE ABOUT PLAGIARISM Examples of plagiarism are: 1. 2. 3. 4.
Copying directly from another source [a book or website for example]; Passing work off as your own when you haven’t changed a word; Handing in copies of another people’s work as your own; and Handing in work that’s identical to another student.
We have a Learner Plagiarism & Staff Malpractice Policy that covers this subject and sets out the procedure we follow when a learner is suspected of plagiarism, a copy of which is available on request.
BUILDING YOURSELF A PORTFOLIO All completed assignments will be retained by your tutor, but you may choose to keep copies NEBOSH - 2023 - SAVEFAST FIRE & SAFETY TRAINING L.L.C © | SF/IMS/NLHB/2023/01/00

WHAT IS AN OPEN BOOK EXAMINATION? An open book examination (OBE) enables you to sit your NEBOSH assessment on your own, usually in your own home or another safe and suitable location where you can concentrate. Do not think that an OBE is an easy alternative to invigilated examinations; NEBOSH is trusted by organisations around the world to provide relevant and rigorous qualifications and assessments. The questions you’ll be asked will be different to those in NEBOSH closed book examinations. You will be presented with a scenario that describes a realistic workplace and situation. You will then be asked to carry out a series of tasks using evidence presented in the scenario, as well as the knowledge you have gained through your studies and revision. You can expect to see questions that ask What? Could? How? Why? and Where? These will not only assess what you know but what you can do with that knowledge; our examiners will be looking for you to demonstrate analytical, evaluation and creative skills as well as critical thinking. Whatever format the question, it will relate to the syllabus and learning outcomes of your qualification. To help you during the open book examination you can use resources such as notes, textbooks, learning materials and online resources. It’s important to remember that cutting and pasting from a textbook or online resource will not provide you with a good answer - you will need to really understand the topic and apply your understanding to the scenario given in the question paper.
