The fall is a wonderful time of year. It’s a time of change; kids or grandkids go back to school, leaves begin to turn colors and fall from the trees, the smell of roasting chiles tantalizes the senses. It’s a great time to be at SFCC, where there’s a slew of classes to pique your interest or help you develop a new skill. This season we have tin working classes, beginning bridge classes, children’s book illustration, outdoor hikes and more. This is a time of change in continuing education also. I retire at the end of October. I want to thank all the wonderful instructors I’ve had the opportunity to get to know. I’ve met some of the most fascinating people in town, only because they want to share a special interest of theirs with you. I’ll miss the staff at SFCC who come to work each day to serve the Santa Fe community and make your SFCC experience the best possible. Finally, I’d like to thank Dr. Rita Martinez-Purson, my first mentor here at the college. Her wisdom and leadership helped me develop to the fullest, and as I transition to the next chapter, I hope to see you on campus!

IYENGAR YOGA Developed by yoga master B.K.S. Iyengar more than 60 years ago, Iyengar yoga promotes strength, flexibility, endurance and balance through coordinated breathing and poses that require precise body alignment. Equipment like blankets, straps and blocks help the less flexible and also distinguishes Iyengar from other types of yoga. Although Iyengar incorporates the traditional postures, or asanas, that make up the broader category of hatha yoga, the props revolutionized yoga by enabling everyone – even the elderly, sick, and disabled, to practice. Because of its slow pace, attention to detail, and use of props, Iyengar yoga can be especially good if you’re recovering from an injury. No class Nov. 27.
