WARM WATER EXERCISE

Warm water exercise is one of the best types of therapy for those suffering with arthritis and other disabling conditions. Aquatic exercise is extremely safe because the buoyancy helps to prevent injury from sudden body movements. The warm water also promotes relaxation. Taking place in a 90 to 91 warm water pool, this class consists of stretches, a light cardio segment, strengthening exercises for upper and lower body, core development to enhance balance, flexibility movements and a cool down using relaxation techniques and breath control. Students must be able to stand and walk in the pool. There is an $8 per visit facility fee for access to the Fitness Center. As an alternative, students may purchase a five-visit pass for $30 or a monthly pass for $50.

IYENGAR YOGA Developed by yoga master B.K.S. Iyengar more than 60 years ago, Iyengar yoga promotes strength, flexibility, endurance and balance through coordinated breathing and poses that require precise body alignment. Equipment like blankets, straps and blocks help the less flexible and also distinguishes Iyengar from other types of yoga. Although Iyengar incorporates the traditional postures, or asanas, that make up the broader category of hatha yoga, the props revolutionized yoga by enabling everyone – even the elderly, sick, and disabled, to practice. Because of its slow pace, attention to detail, and use of props, Iyengar yoga can be especially good if you’re recovering from an injury. No class July 3.
