The 4th annual Spokane Comicon will take place on Saturday May 22 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Lair Student Center at SCC. The event’s founder and coordinator, Nathan O’Brien, said this year’s Comicon relocated from SFCC.

According to the event’s website, spokanecomicon.com, the first Spokane Comicon was held in May, 2007 with over 300 people in attendance. Before the 2007 convention, the last convention hadn’t been for 16 years.

“We had to change venues to continue to Mike Watson is the founder and president of SaSquad, SCC’s comic book club. SaSquad has been working with O’Brien on planning and grow,” he said. preparing the event.

“This year we actually got to contribute guests, and we’re volunteering (at the event),” Watson said.

Guests at this year’s Spokane Comicon include the guest of honor John Layman, the writer and creator of the comic “Chew,” as well as spokane native and “Keyboard Cat” creator Charlie schmidt.

Spokane Comicon will also be hosting costume contests for kids and adults. According to O’Brien, the contest was introduced in the second year and grew from there.
