Dear SFHS Community,

In the 2021-22 school year, we were once again blessed with the achievements of our students and the generosity of our donors. There is reason to celebrate as we share this annual report, but it is also an opportunity for us to express our continued belief in our mission, our gratitude, and our optimism for the future.

From its onset in the spring of 2020, the pandemic and its effects on our students, our families, and our communities brought about much uncertainty. But through it all, we did not lose faith. We continued with the implementation of our 10-year Strategic Plan, Preserving the Legacy. Building for the Future, and finalized a master building plan to guide us with updates and facility expansion. These endeavors will ensure an excellent Catholic education for future Spartans.

Thanks to the dedication and creativity of our faculty, staff, and coaches, our social gatherings like homecoming and prom and our Performing and Visuals Arts performances safely returned. Throughout the year, our athletic teams won conference, IHSA Regional, and Sectional titles, and there were several state appearances!

In May 2022, we celebrated 180 graduating seniors at a commencement liturgy held in-person and on campus. It was a joy to witness the students’ amazing journey at St. Francis High School, and we look forward to the many more stories of success we will hear from our future and current generations of students.

Your love and faith in St. Francis High School make those stories possible and are fundamental to our continued success. As we enter the season of gratitude, we extend a resounding thank you to all our donors, faculty and staff, families, and community partners.

• In 2021-2022, nine St. Francis High School students received scholarship awards totaling $101,543.

• 16 students currently on the SFHS waitlist would receive scholarships if more funds become available

A Gift of Real Impact ST. FRANCIS FUND

Philanthropic support is integral to the success of St. Francis High School. During the 2021-22 fiscal year, gifts totaling $662,733 were made to the St. Francis Fund. These gifts provided critical, unrestricted dollars for the school’s operating expenses, such as capital or programmatic enhancements, technology upgrades, tuition assistance, faculty and staff professional development, and more. These gifts are flexible and can be used where and when they are needed most, helping to cover the deficit between tuition charged and the actual cost to educate an SFHS student.

Class of 2022 Endowment Fund

Cook’s Night Out & Uniform Resale

The St. Francis Mothers’ Club organized a monthly “Cook’s Night Out” where local, participating restaurants donated a portion of their proceeds to SFHS. Mothers’ Club also continued to keep uniforms available and affordable through the Uniform Resale. All together, $9,119 was raised through these efforts.

Thank You Volunteers!

A group of parents of graduating seniors partnered with SFHS to continue a tradition designed to strengthen the school’s endowment. By establishing the Class of 2022 Endowment Fund, these parents created a tribute to their graduating seniors and provided a way for them to give back to SFHS throughout their lives. The Class of 2022 Endowment Fund raised $34,972 and has become part of the permanent endowment of SFHS. Any income from the fund is used to support the school in future years. We are incredibly grateful for the parents who contributed to the Class of 2022 Endowment Fund! We are grateful for our school volunteers who were essential to the success of our fundraising efforts this year. A sincere THANK YOU for their tireless effort and meaningful support.

The Spartan Classic September 16, 2021

The 2021 Spartan Classic was held at Cantigny Golf Club in Wheaton. This sold-out event is a true community gathering of alumni, parents, and friends. Through the efforts of our golfers, sponsors, and volunteers, $169,644 was raised for tuition assistance. Thank you to golf committee co-chairs Mike Armbrust ’88 and Todd Shaw ’89 for another successful outing!

Day Of Giving October 4, 2021

In its inaugural year, the SFHS Day of Giving was held on October 4 – the Feast Day of Saint Francis of Assisi, our patron. A switch from the global movement #GivingTuesday, the SFHS Day of Giving celebrates our community and the meaningful words at our core, "In giving we receive." The move proved to be successful, as we exceeded our goal and raised $122,229, impacting everything that makes up the daily educational experience at SFHS.

Ensuring Our Future Auction March 5, 2022

The Spyglass Athletic Center was transformed into a throwback of the Roaring ‘20s! Thanks to the generosity of our attendees and remote bidders, more than $506,000 was raised to help provide for academic programs, co-curricular activities, and tuition assistance. This total includes donations made toward our “Fund-a-Cause” to provide a new storage enclosure under the stadium bleachers.

Planned Gifts

There are a variety of ways to include St. Francis High School in your future plans by making the school the beneficiary of your gift. Here are some planned gift options to consider:

• Life Insurance: Designate St. Francis High School as the owner and beneficiary of your life insurance policy.

• Gifts from Retirement Plans: You may consider using retirement-plan benefits to make a gift. Because of the estate and income-tax treatment of retirement-plan benefits, the cost of your gift to your estate and heirs is often relatively small.

• Bequests: A bequest is a gift made through your will or trust. Leaving a bequest qualifies for the estate tax charitable deduction and may place your estate in a lower tax bracket. It is one of the most popular and flexible ways to make a planned gift.

• Donor Advised Funds:

Simple to open, DAFs provide a charitable tax deduction whenever money goes into the account, and make it easy to grant money to SFHS whenever you are ready to do so.

The St. Francis Society is comprised of lead benefactors to the St. Francis Fund who, through their generosity, demonstrate a commitment to the vision and mission of St. Francis High School. Membership in the society is open to all individuals, companies, and foundations that make an annual gift of $1,500 or more to the St. Francis Fund. Members enjoy complimentary tickets to home athletic events, theater productions, and a private reception in recognition of their leadership generosity.

Each year, we remember and celebrate the lives of our deceased alumni during a Memorial Mass held in early November. We continued this cherished tradition by celebrating the 2021 Alumni Memorial Mass on November 13, 2021, in the St. Clare Chapel at St. Francis High School.

Memorial Mass Cards are available throughout the year and all donations made in memory of a loved one benefit the students. Names are written in the Book of Intentions and remembered in the prayers of the St. Francis High School community during our monthly liturgies.
