Facets of the Ancient Egyptian Worldview by Mr. Hanlon’s Humanities 10 Class November 2020

1. They viewed their society in an orderly, organized way (construction of pyramids, farming tasks, etc.) by Haven Frombgen 2. For them, symbols and images had literal meaning and even power (“magic”) by Hugo Rutherfurd 3. They lived with a view toward achieving and preparing for a good afterlife (virtue in this life) by Evan Lee 4. As a stable and confident civilization, they had an optimistic outlook, even on death by Megan Spegar 5. They saw labor as a cooperative endeavor (pyramids, irrigation, farming, etc.) by Liam Santos 6. They saw the Nile River as the giver of life (regular flooding  reliable) by Maddie Armour 7. They were polytheistic (and readily integrated new gods) by Glenn Shtilvasser 8. Their view of family was central and inclusive (multi-generational, the living and the dead) by Elizabeth Dewar-Kudsi 9. They were materialistic and valued physical beautification, aesthetics, and cosmetics by Leila Rodriguez 10. They viewed the Pharaoh as divine, as a messenger between the gods and humans by Grace Lipson 11. They saw people as belonging/bound to specific classes and occupations by Ella Wade 12. For them, animals, especially birds, were valued and even associated with the divine by Jade Duncan-Gould 13. They saw women as the respected mistress of the household, with certain rights and possible occupations/trades but no formal education by Meya Redmond 14. They saw the sun as a god (Re) and the completer of the Nile’s power by Sophia Sculley
