INAUGURAL BRIDGE GAME VS MCC BRIDGE SECTION

Despite local restrictions due to the pandemic, the Bridge Section continues to meet virtually, playing every Monday using the online BBO application. We regularly have gatherings of 30+ people (including Members and their guests). The Section has also been fortunate to exploit a new relationship with the Bridge Section of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) in United Kingdom. This contact came through Richard Holloway who is a member of MCC, who happened to play one of the events arranged by the MCC Bridge Section, partnering King Fook Chan, also from SCC Bridge Section. After this event, Richard reverted to MCC and asked if they would be keen to have a bridge game vs SCC Bridge Section. Challenge accepted, this Inaugural game between the two clubs was arranged for Sunday, 16 May. With eight players per team, we played using the Real Bridge System that is used in UK, which also builds in video contact with players, on top of the online system used to play the bridge hands. The SCC team comprised of Edith Somogyi (Convenor) & Sandra Iyer, Usha & Perry Ramanathan, Mike Sharples and Jasbir Kaur as well as Richard Holloway & King Fook Chan. The event was thoroughly enjoyed by both teams and will hopefully be the foundation for regular games between both teams, and eventually Interport status. In passing, but of less importance, MCC won the game!
