SGEU Highway workers

Safeguarding Saskatchewan

SGEU highway workers … people in your community caring for your community. You know us … we are your friends, neighbours, and family members. We are also: • Maintenance workers • Bridge crew members • Fleet service workers • Engineering services staff • Transport compliance employees

Chris, Equiipment Operator, Morse

We do many other kinds of jobs, often working behind the scenes to ensure that our province’s highways are safe.

Highway maintenance workers keep your highways clear of snow and ice in the winter, and repair roads in the summer. Bridge crews safeguard the public by ensuring that bridges are built and repaired and in safe condition. We are not only responsible for bridges on the highways but also those found in rural municipalities.

We are part of your community. We live in small towns across Saskatchewan. We coach your kid’s hockey team, help out at the local curling rink and sit on local school boards and library boards.

Merlon, Supervisor of Operations,Yorkton

Centre stripers keep the lines and turning arrows on our roadways painted. Transport Compliance staff make sure the roads are protected from damage from heavy loads by monitoring trucks and enforcing the highway traffic laws.

Amanda, Engineer Technician, Saskatoon

Engineering services employees make sure the roads are designed and constructed properly. They also ensure that the bridge system is safe for the traveling public.

Fleet service workers are responsible for ensuring that the equipment used by the maintenance workers is safe when it is on the road.

We support your local economy. We also live and work in your community. Like other public sector workers, we support local businesses, and buy everything from groceries to gasoline in our 足communities.

Julean, Apprentice Heavy Duty Mechanic, Yorkton

It’s our job to ensure that the highway system is safe for all.
